In the castle at Seliz, Kalum made his way down torch lit halls to Kala’s chamber. He soon found her door and knocked. He waited several minutes but there was no answer. He knocked again and waited a few more minutes but still no rustling noises came from inside. She must be asleep, Kalum thought. He decided then he would speak with her in the morning rather than disturb her. He walked back down the hall to the knights’ barracks little realizing that his journey had just begun. His mind was on the war as he dressed for bed but Fate had other things in store for him and, as he would blame his sister in the beginning, he would later come to see that because of her he lived. As his head touched his pillow a soft Wind blew and tussled his hair. It lulled him to sleep with its whispers of tomorrow. Kalum could not have known that the Wind that touched his cheeks was kissing him with the bitter sweetness of the tomorrow that Fate had already prepared.
