"Can you... you know... slip me a pin?"

"No. You just made a confession about ghosts. You can sit in this room and stew in your consequences whilst I hunt down your smarter half."

I'm barely in the door for a second before I catch on that Tyler knows. Slumped in the kitchen stool, brows furrowed, staring blankly at the white wall. I know he can hear me approaching. The thud of my boots aren't exactly masked by the house. "What excuse is it going to be this time?" Tyler hums quietly. Not even looking at me when I stop in the archway, Tyler tells me "Your office called. Apparently you left out some files before you went a couple days ago." His gaze slowly turning to land on me, I can see a storm brewing in his sad eyes "Work retreat huh?"

My voice barely above a whisper, I barely get out the word "Tyler-"

"Why are you lying to me?" Tyler questions bluntly, rising from his stool "Why do you need to lie about where you are? To me?"

Taking a step back from his advancing figure, I stress as my heart begins to pound erratically in my chest "Something important came up but it's done now-"

He snaps so quickly I have no time to react from the shock that ripples through my body. Grabbing my shoulders Tyler slings me back hard into a wall with a bang "What was so important!" Wide-eyed I try to calm my racing heart seeing the turmoil and betrayal roll around in Tyler's hard desperate gaze. I've faced monsters of all kinds. Many almost killing me there and then. Yet looking at Tyler I'm feeling a fear I've never felt when I'd been hunting.

Calmly, I tell Tyler "Someone I care about was in trouble. I went to help them. That is all."

Tyler watches me for another long moment tossing my words around in his head. For a while I wonder if he's going to further unhinge himself on whatever idea he has floating around in his head. After a long silent debate on Tyler's part he releases my shoulders and I find myself able to breathe again. Tyler doesn't say another word. Eerily, I gaze after him as Tyler walks through our house and retreats up our stairs. My entire body jumping when the door to our bedroom is slammed shut with a reverberating bang.
