Going through your change, you counted to make sure you had enough to buy yourself a popsicle before you went to the roof where you usually ate, but when you rechecked the price of the popsicle you realized you didn't have enough.
You frowned, the prices didn't go up, did they? Dammit. I need to get a job...
"Y/N!"
You tensed, turning with wide eyes in confusion before relaxing as your eyes landed on Denki. He grinned happily, walking up to you with the drink he had just bought in hand, "What's up, Y/N-chan?"
Who you calling 'chan'? You thought, We just met a few days ago...
"Nothing much. I uh... " You turned back to the popsicle you were still holding, glaring at the price tag.
Even a quirk of illusions would do me well in this case, you could trick the cashier into thinking the price is lower, but then that would be stealing...
"Oh, you want that?" Denki asked, clueing into your situation, "I can buy it for you."
"Huh? N-no, you don't have to-" You pursed your lips as Denki snatched the popsicle out of your hand and moved to pay for it without saying a word.
You really didn't want to owe him anything, but when he handed you the popsicle and told you not to worry about it, you forced yourself to accept the fact that he didn't want anything in return. Friends would do these things for each other, right? Denki isn't like your father, he's not always trying to fool people into owing him.
"Thanks a lot, Kaminari-san." You mumbled, your eyes met for a second but you quickly looked away.
"Hey, just call me Denki, okay?"
"R-right. Denki." You blinked hesitantly as the boy smiled brightly, and together you walked away from the line and towards the seating area, the place filling up quickly.
"Hey Y/N-chan, wanna come sit with me and my friends?"
You swallowed, clutching the handle of your treat you looked past Denki to where he had pointed his thumb, a bunch of other boys and one girl from his class sat at a table yelling and laughing over each other. Denki might be too dense to recognize you, but who's to say that his friends aren't?
You can't be outed by someone else, plus, Denki and you haven't known each other long enough yet.
"Actually, I have plans with another friend of mine today." You quickly said, lying swiftly you ignored his slight frown, "But uh... wanna walk home together again?"
His frown disappeared and a sense of pure happiness filled you as the boy agreed, waving goodbye and running off to join his friends. You turned and left the cafeteria to head up to where you would sit for this lunch period, alone again. But you didn't mind it, really.
Being alone was better than being betrayed.

You'd never come up on your own to talk to Denki first before, he was usually the one to always approach you, so you gathered up your confidence and met him at your usual meeting spot to walk home together. When you got there, he was standing near the exit, leaning his back to the wall with his eyes closed and earphones in.
You paused for a moment in front of your locker, staring at how his face set calmly, he wasn't grinning or putting on a flirtatious façade. He was just Denki, just a regular boy lost in his music, his breathing slow and his hands in his pockets, your heart warmed at the sight of this different side of him. It made you wonder for a second, if maybe he really did know who you were and was just pretending not to to be your friend.
Either way, you don't really care.
After switching out your shoes, you approached the male slowly. You could hear the bass of his music just slightly, and knew that he couldn't hear you at all. Hesitantly, you tapped him on the shoulder, watching as his eyes popped open in shock and he quickly pulled out his earphones.
"Oh, Y/N! You're already ready?"
You nodded, "Yeah. You're music was turned up really loud. What are you listening to?"
He smiled lightly, showing me his phone screen, "It's a K-pop band."
"Oh, I've heard of them." You paused, swallowing, "A-anyways, Denki... about USJ..."
He laughed, "It's all every ones talking about isn't it? Kind of annoying."
"I don't really care what everyone else is talking about, dummy. Are you... are you okay? I mean, you just barley started your first year and you got attacked by the biggest villain group in Japan. You could have died."
He was silent for a moment, and you stared into his eyes searching for some kind of answer. He was blunt for just a moment, a very short moment that you wish would have lasted a bit longer.
"Awe~ Are you worried about me, Y/N-chan?" He laughed in an annoyingly bold way that only made you think it was fake, "I'm fine, honest! And on that note, starving! Lets stop at a café on our way home, okay?"
You held myself back from slapping the living shit out of this utter idiot, and decided not to push him on what might be a sensitive topic that he's not interested in talking about. So instead, you sighed and agreed with him, letting him lead the way to the café where he would spend his money and then probably complain about going broke.

"Y/N?"
I ignored him, staring hard at the police across the street, one had noticed you and kept his gaze on you, glancing from my figure to Denki's.
"Do you know them?" The boy with you asked hesitantly.
"Yeah." You mumbled, but you only knew them because they had you in their office for days after your fathers arrest, asking you if you knew anything that they didn't. They thought you would talk better then your father did. "Whatever, let's just go."
"Are you sure? We can say hi if you want-"
"No, I don't want to." You quickly said, shocking him with your tone. You took a deep breath, "I'm sorry, Denki."
He placed a hand on your shoulder, "Don't worry about it. Come on, I'll buy you a drink at the café! We're almost there!"
"Wait, really?" You asked, your eyes wide with happiness at the thought of getting a drink for free.
"Of course." He chuckled, running up and opening the door for me, "Anything you want!"
You grinned, running in after him, "Most expensive thing on the menu!"
"AH!" He cried, waving his hands around as he tried to rephrase what he had said earlier, begging you not to get something super expensive because he wasn't rich. You laughed at his awkwardness, his cheeks were pink and a sweat formed on his forehead at my teasing.
"I'm just kidding, Denki-kun. I just want a hot cocoa."
He relaxed, mumbling, "Oh thank god."
After Denki had gotten your drinks, you found an empty table for two and sat down, the blonde quickly filling the silence with talk about his day. He mainly hung out with Bakugo Katsuki, an extremely strong boy with a horrible personality and an explosion quirk, Kirishima who was all about manliness and had a hardening quirk, Sero who had a tape quirk and a girl named Mina, who had an acidic quirk and pink skin.
You smiled, looking through the few pictures he had of them all, before moving on to talk about how his shoulder hurt because Bakugo hit him. His stories were amazing and more in detail then you thought the guy could manage - though the only problem was how he explained some things by saying 'KAPOW' and other comic book sounds.
"So then, Y/N-chan! What's class 1-B like?"
You stiffened, not having expected him to ask about your class. You were perfectly okay with just listening to him talk his mouth off, but you guess that wasn't an option anymore.
"Well uh... they're an interesting group I guess. Vlad King-san is really strict, so most of the time it's pretty quiet. During training though, theirs a ton of kids who are really overconfident with their quirks."
"Like who?"
"Monoma Neito. He's such an asshole, going around and picking out peoples weaknesses, but at the same time... I guess he's also pretty good at encouragement. He's a good leader, I guess, but I still want to punch him in the face."
Denki laughed, leaning back in his chair, "I bet! I would too. So then, who's that girl you always have plans with at lunch?"
My stomach dropped and you quickly racked your brain for names, "Her name is Rin. Rin Yatsume. She's in the department class." The male nodded and you continued, "She's really sweet, and has uh, talent in music. She can sing and play the piano and violin. Pretty cool right? She's always talking about her upcoming shows."
"Wow! Looks like she'll be pretty famous in the future, huh?" Denki grinned, and you scoffed, hating the thought of him falling for your imaginary friend.
Sometimes, you hated how well you could lie. It was one of the many things your father taught you. Lie, lie because lying is what gets you things, lying is easier then telling the truth. And in this case, you guess he was right. But there was one thing about lying that your father never told you, one thing that you learned for yourself soon after he got imprisoned.
You can't hide the truth forever, and soon I'll have to choose between my lies and my friendship with Denki.
