"I-NO-SU-KE!!!"
"Oh shit."
You twisted in the air, slamming your heel into the side of his head, his body flew to the side from the impact.
You landed softly, placing your hands on your hips and ignoring the two onlookers as you glared down at the shirtless male with the boar mask, slowly sitting up from the ground.
"You uncultured swine! Running off right after a mission and leaving me behind without a word just because the next location was close! Three days! Three whole days you were gone and I couldn't find any trace of you! How was I to know what happened to you?!"
"I was doing the mission obviously!" He yelled in reply, "Why were you even looking for me in the first place, hah?! I was fighting that demon, running through that crazy house!"
"Baka! I couldn't sense any activity from the outside, I wanted to wait for you! We're friends, aren't we?!"
"No! We're fighting rivals!"
You faltered slightly at his words, he rambled on about fighting, and suddenly another boy in yellow stepped up, placing a firm hand on his shoulder.
"Inosuke, Why did you reject this beautiful young woman's friendship? YOU IDIOT! APOLOGIZE!"
"Why should I?!"
You sighed, just a rival, huh? Just another person to fight...
You really thought you'd made your first friend. Someone who didn't care about the way you looked.

You took steady breaths, laying comfortably on the infirmary beds in the butterfly estate, the boys luckily in another room. You know you wouldn't get much sleep if you had to spend the night with all three shenanigans.
Though, you couldn't stop thinking about what Inosuke said.
Ever since you were a kid, you were different. Your eyes were dark, shaded black, your skin was very pale and you had little fangs. Because of that, kids made fun of you and said you were a demon.
You didn't come out to the village much because your father and mother lived a bit away from the main city, and you just trained all the time with your brothers, so when you did emerge they would all point and taunt.
You never got the chance to make any friends, but you'd always wanted one.
When you met Inosuke in the mountains after your first mission, and realized he was raised by beasts and didn't care about looks or anything of he sort, you were excited. He didn't seem repulsed with you at all, and you made sure to accept every bit of his feminine side as well to make sure he never felt taunted and insecure like you did.
You taught him how to read his and your name, and in return you let him fight you. You won, which is probably why he now thinks you're fighting rivals.
But you didn't want to be rivals. You wanted to be his friend... but now he was so injured he could barley speak. Now, you were too afraid to say anything more, worried he wouldn't understand you if you asked to be his friend.

A few days later, you visited the boys in their room for the first time. Tanjiro and Zenitsu called out in happiness, glad to finally see you.
Well, Zentisu more or less just cried - but you found it funny. Sitting on the edge of Tanjiro's bed with him, you talked about our recovery, and other simple things.
The fight on the mountain was brutal, and all of you sustained broken bones and a lot of blood loss, you fought your hardest and luckily survived.
Eventually, the topic changed from your current lives to your past ones.
"Your sound breathing techniques are so cool!"
"Thank you, Tanjiro. I also know a little bit of wind techniques too... but I can't perform them well. My father taught me everything along with my brothers."
"You have brothers, Y/N-chan?" Tanjiro asked, urging you to continue on as the others listened in.
you sighed, nodding, "I have seven brothers.. I'm the only girl in my family. We were originally all raised as ninja... oh, I'm sorry, you all lost your families right? I won't talk about it if you don't want to."
Tanjiro shook his head, "No, it's alright. I'd love to hear about your brothers!"
"W-well... there's not much to say..."
"Having seven whole brothers? That sounds like hell..." Zenitsu mumbled.
"You aren't wrong, Zenitsu. My brothers weren't exactly the kindest, but nor was my father. They would taunt me sometimes for being weaker... it's probably the cause of my insecurities now."
The atmosphere changed, and you swallowed upon seeing Zenitsu's heavy frown, "You're insecure, Y/N? About the way you look?"
You nodded hastily, and Inosuke looked back and forth between us quickly in confusion.
"What's insecure?! Why?!" He yelled.
"W-well, y-you see its just... I-I don't really like my face-"
"What's wrong with your face?!" He yelled again, leaning in towards you.
"I-um, when I was a kid... everyone would make fun of me and say I looked like a demon. I have dark eyes, and sharp teeth... and I was stronger than most girls. They all said I'd never get a husband."
"Y/N-chan... that's horrible." Tanjiro whispered, spreading concern for you, though you couldn't take your eyes away from Inosuke.
He still looked confused for some reason...
"Your face is good! If you lived in the mountains, your dark eyes and sharp teeth and strength would keep you safe! You'd definitely survive in the mountains! Amazing! There's nothing wrong with your face at all!"
You blinked, shocked slightly at his choice of words. Zenitsu gasped and scolded him, telling him he should have just told you you looked beautiful no matter what like a normal man would, but Inosuke wasn't any normal man.
Inosuke was different, but in a good way, and just like the first day you met him, you knew he would accept you no matter what.
Inosuke telling you those things about how your face was a good survival trait, was him telling you you were beautiful.
"Thank you, Inosuke-Kun!"
He paused, as did the others, and the conversation soon changed once again to Zenitsu's city life, which was quiet the comedy.

Eventually though, when the sun set, you had to go back to your room.
"Hey, Inosuke-Kun?" You asked quietly, looking to him as he adjusted his boar mask.
"Huh?" He began, turning to you.
You smiled lightly, reaching out and taking the mask off his head, "Please let me see your eyes, Inosuke."
"Uh... okay..." He grumbled, staring up at you expectantly.
"Inosuke-kun, I know you want to be fighting rivals, but I really want to be friends with you... so, can we be friends, please?"
"Of course we're friends! Rivals are friends! They're more than friends!"
"Eh, really?!" You gasped, letting him rip his boar mask out of your hands and shove it back onto his face, he nodded firmly.
"Oh... I see, I guess I misunderstood you. Sorry, Inosuke-kun."
He shook his head, grumbling something under his breath, before suddenly, "I'll forgive you if you sing!"
"Eh- what? I wasn't really asking for forgiveness..."
"You can sing, Y/N-chan?" Tanjiro asked.
"A beautiful girl who can sing~" Zenitsu sang, making you cringe.
"Sing me a lullaby! Like the one you sang at the river!"
The river... you thought, thinking back to the last time you even had time to relax enough to sing. It was when you were in the mountains, before you even met Inosuke, when you were taking a bath in the river.
He was watching me?!
"You little pervert... watching a woman while she bathes, do you have a death wish, I-no-su-ke?"
"N-no."
"Please sing for us, Y/N-chan!" Zenitsu cried out in a beg, and even Tanjiro added a polite request.
"Fine, but only because you're all more injured than I am. I'll sing one song, and then you better all go to bed!"
"Hai!"
