Shawn's POV
•••
My one and only love, y/n, was now not going to be my one and only.
Another girl on the way.
As soon as I heard the news, so much came to mind.
I was the happiest alive, yet I still cried.
I thought about singing her songs, but I was too high up in the clouds to remember any lyrics.
Here I am, fulfilling my dreams each step at a time.
My fingers patch one last star behind her crib as I crawl down the ladder.
"Really Shawn!?" I hear my beloved wife call from downstairs.
I march down to where she stands at the front door.
"Yes, hun?" I hum.
She begins digging her hand in the cardboard box that had just arrived.
Pulling out an elephant plushie, she stairs at me with a smirk and an eyebrow raise.
'What- oh come on! It's going to look so cute and she'll love it!"
"Shawn, why don't you just buy her a damn elephant? Have you seen her room? There's already an elephant rockinghorse and a framed photo. There's also that glass one resting on her shelf." Y/n begins.
"Ok, ok. Last one. I promise." I say while holding out my pinkie for her to attach.
She faintly rolls her eyes and links her little finger to mine.
We're cut off by the doorbell ringing through the house.
I open it to see a man holding a box in one arm and a clipboard in another.
"Shawn Mendes?" He asks.
"That'll be me." I clarify.
I jot down my name on the paper held by the clipboard.
I turn around and shut the door with the pad of my shoe.
"What is it?" Y/n asks me.
I grab a pair of scissor from the table next to us and slide it down the taped center.
Realizing what it was, I slam the box shut.
"Nothing." I say.
"Oh really?" She says teasingly.
"Yup. Just.. air."
"Just air? You're telling me we paid for.. 'just air'?"
"Yup.."
"Iternesting." She says.
"Yup.. interesting indeed." I say.
I clutch the box in my arms and dash upstairs to the nursery.
"Shawn-!" She shouts after me. "You know I can't run with this tummy!"
"Sorry hunny!" I say with a light chuckle.
I dash back down the stairs to hold her with each step up.
"Shawn?" She questions.
"Yes?"
"Was that an elephant blanket?" She asks.
I turn pink.
"That promise.. starts now." I say.
