"She was oblivious, that one. Very, very oblivious indeed. She had never noticed exactly what she meant to him, how she was more than fly on his shoulder. He CARED for her, just not so passionately as the average person would. We could all sense something different with him the year she was enrolled in the school, he was more nervous of his actions I presume, thinking extra about the decisions he would make, and his options, like he was cautious not to harm her. He probably saw her as a fragile thing, easily broken and sensitive to all things. But, I can only guess.

I can only guess."

Chapter 24

Myrtle hung around me for days after that.

Wherever I would go, she would be there, following me as she went on and on about her complications with endless blabbering. Don't get me wrong, I felt bad for the girl and thought she was a nice and sweet, but it got a bit annoying from time to time.

Right now we were in the library with Ned and Miranda, on our precious free period, and guess who was with us? Yup! You guessed it, the one and only Myrtle Marie was sitting right next to me, chatting with Ned about how life was unfair and she deserved more. A small smile made it's way to my lips as I watched Ned squirm uncomfortably, a piece of entertainment to me.

Miranda was staring in irritation at the young student, and was thoroughly applying some powder to her face as she hid behind a book so the librarian wouldn't see.

I, on the other hand, was actually reading. I held a book on advanced potions in my hand, my eyes surveying it intently. The class potions book didn't mention ALOT of the things this one mentioned.

After awhile, I finished the semi-thin piece of reading and got up to curiously roam the shelves, most of the books I'd already read.

Something instantly caught my attention, and a certain thought registered in my mind.

'Restricted Section.'

I knew that area of shelves contained books holding very dark magic, extremely dark indeed, and I also knew only seventh years could enter that area of restriction. I knew I was allowed to visit that section, just something in the pit of my stomach was heavy, almost foreboding, as if I would learn things that would send me into a heap of shock.

Did Tom usually go there, and devour his way through each book? It probably held practically every sliver of deeply-dark magic Tom had learned.

My curiosity got the best of me.

I reluctantly made my way over, and checked over my shoulder as if I were doing something wrong, even though I was completely allowed to go.

The second I stepped in the restricted section, everything seemed to change. The air became a little bit thicker, and the temperature a tad bit colder. I involuntarily shivered and briefly read the titles at a distance.

'Dark magic for the Intelligent.'

'50 Unforgettable and Restricted Herbs.'

'Deeper into The Unforgivable Curses."
