Chapter 21

My heart was thumping extremely hard, my breaths coming out in short and quick rasps of air. I felt like I was going to faint with how strongly my head was hurting, my adrenaline going five different directions all at the same time.

I was seriously going to do it, I was going to go meet Tom Riddle at the highest tower, where he would probably throw me off.

'Take it easy Aneline. He said he wasn't going to kill you.' That thought should of been reassuring, yet the fact he never said he wouldn't hurt me affected me widely in the fear department.

It was the second day of school, and I would of been happy for the time of day, going to lunch and eating greedily while chatting with friends if it weren't for the current situation I was in. Miranda hadn't dressed me up as glamorously as the day before, but I was still forced to where these dang heels!

I had told Ned and Miranda I wasn't going to lunch, but of course I would NEVER tell them the truth on exactly where I was going instead. I had made up a lie about having to go help a teacher with some equipment they needed to move. Great lie right?

With each passing footstep, and each grateful second, I felt myself slowly shrinking internally. My nervousness and fear was getting the better of me.

I mentally cursed Miranda and myself for wearing these painful heels, having to walk so far and climb so many stairs. Hogwarts was a BIG school.

I was exhausted once I reached the bridge connecting two of the many Hogwarts' towers, the thought of a bottle of icy cold water like gold to me.

I straightened up and looked around, finding no one in sight.

My nervousness quickly morphed in a hundred when I realized no one was there.

'The only thing missing for this to officially be a scary movie would be the creepy music and the camera. Oh yeah, and the "THIS IS NOT REAL" part!' I thought uneasily, the pit in my stomach a giant globe at that point.

I stepped forward and ran my eyes over the empty flat bridge one more time, before heading over to the edge and peering downward.

'GULP.'

I grew light-headed when I saw how far it was down, and how terribly windy it was up there. Absolutely hypnotized by the seemingly-endless bottom on the ground, I spread my arms out and closed my eyes, feeling the rush of air sweep my hair in-

"Boo." A simple, amused tone of voice said softly, yet huskily right beside my ear.

"AHH!" My arms flailed wildly, and I swear I saw my life flash before my eyes as I almost fell over the edge if it hadn't been for a certain hand grabbing the back of my cloak, preventing be from plummeting to my death.

"Not today darling. I need you to do me a favor." Tom drawled out boringly, interested in swiftly moving his unique and deadly wand between his fingers.

"I almost died!" I screamed, my heart thumping crazily and my adrenaline over-the-top and on edge.

He rolled his mesmerizing green sharp eyes and continued playing with his wand.
