. "Mr. Riddle was a quiet, albeit brilliant boy, committed to becoming a first rate wizard. Not unlike many I have taught. Not unlike yourself. If there was a monster, it was buried deep within."

                                                                           Chapter 7

My fears caught up with me up the flight of stairs. A clatter of expensive china shook in the tray I was holding. With each step I took, I became more nervous and began to doubt whether or not I had made the absolute dumbest decision of my life. I debated internally if I should go back, but knew if I did, the servants in the kitchen would have my head. They had done all the work of preparing the meal for Tom, advising me he was a picky eater and punished you when he felt unsatisfied.

I froze at his room door, biting my lower lip. I exhaled deeply and opened the door.

They didn’t seem to notice me at first, meaning they were in complete concentration. On the left side of the spacious room, Blaise stood, wand in hand, and panting heavily while sweat poured from his face. On the right side, Tom was in the exact opposite shape. He leaned against his study desk, is long wand hanging loosely from his palm.

They were dueling.

Blaise then shouted a curse I had never heard in my life, so I concluded it to be dark magic. Tom easily blocked it, returning the offense when black sparks ignited from his wand. Blaise’s eyes widened in a mixture of horror and awe as it hit him smack in the middle. At first, nothing happened, but after a few seconds, he clutched at his stomach and fell to the ground. He coughed as blood spluttered from his mouth, nose, and ears. He covered his ears and screamed, like he was hearing something entirely unpleasant.

It was truly a gruesome sight.

Tom didn’t appear to have a care in the world as his ‘friend’ suffered no mercy. After a few seconds, Tom lazily swished his wand and Blaise’s torture seemed t come to an end. Up to this point they hadn’t noticed me, as if on cue, Tom’s piercing green eyes darted towards me. The glare was nothing compared to what Blaise had just gone through. I cut me open and dug deep into the core of my heart.

Blaise noticed and adverted his attention towards me, instantly scrunching up his nose in disgust. “I knew I smelled something fowl.”

Tom continued to glare at me intently as I nervously carried the tray over to a small table in the middle of the room. “I just came to give you the food you had wished for, Mr. Riddle.” I managed to squeak out.

“I thought I had specifically ordered you to stay away from this room mudblood.” He dripped of venom.

“Actually, she might be of use to us Tom. We could practice the crucio curse! I still haven’t been able to master it the way I wish to.” Blaise implied in an excited tone of voice.

My eyes widened in utter terror at him, my body going rigid with shock and fear. Tom’s jaw clenched at the statement but said nothing.

Without warning, Blaise grabbed me aggressively and prodded my half-bruised arm painfully. “The effects will be worse on her, since she already has a bruise, it’ll enhance the pain!” His eyes gleamed like a psychotic maniac, glazing over me like a mad-scientist.

“Maybe we should, she needs to be disciplined for disobeying my commands.” He finally spoke up.

My mouth popped open so wide I though I would dislocate my jaw. I was really starting to panic now. I knew I should make a run for it, but my legs were immobilized in fear.

Blaise became, if possible, more infatuated with torturing me when Tom gave him support on the suggestion. He took out his wand once again. “Shall I do the honors? Or do you?”

“You do it, you do need more practice on the matter.” He sat on the edge of his bed, staring at me expressionlessly.

Blaise rolled up his sleeves up eagerly, intense concentration masking his face.

At the last second, my mind decided to start working again. Adrenaline coursed through me thoroughly. I knew it would be useless to try and run and my wand stood no chance.

“One.” Blaise readied his wand.

“Two.” Blaise continued quietly, Tom observing te wand he still held in his hand.

“Thre-
