Behavioral Analysis Unit
Quantico, Virginia

To clarify, the Behavioral Analysis Unit in real life wasn't entirely like television portrayed it. Most team members did not travel to every case location that crossed Jennifer Jareou's desk. In fact, the only team members who traveled consistently were SSA Aaron Hotchner, SSA David Rossi, and BAU liaison Jennifer Jareau. Dr. Spencer Reid, itching to leave desk life, often always ended up liaising from Quantico, Virginia. Most days, he could be found at his desk working diligently to finish his work thoroughly, often too thoroughly.

It was around eight in the morning. Reid had already been in the bullpen for an hour. He was focusing on a case about some murders in Illinois. The police believed they were satanic cult killing, Reid knew the likelihood of that was nearly impossible. He was writing his profile hoping he'd be able to mail it out to the chief in time.

"Hey, Pretty Boy," SSA Emily Prentiss greeted, using a nickname in order to gain his attention as she approached her desk. "You're here early. What did you do this weekend?" She threw her bag on her desk, and plopped down in her chair, before facing him with a smile.

"Not much," Reid looked up from his case file. "I saw a Shakespeare documentary followed by a production of Romeo and Juliet. It was actually quite fascinating, a whole new lense on Shakespeare's ideology and-"

"Pretty Boy, when you said you had big plans I thought you meant you were gonna see a girl, not a documentary," Morgan teased ruffling Reid's hair. Prentiss laughed, shaking her head.

Emily Prentiss and Derek Morgan were what one would consider Spencer Reid's best friends. When Gideon first left, Reid thought he'd never recover. Prentiss's return made pretty much everything better.

Prentiss and Gideon had been Reid's mentors since he was fourteen years old. He'd graduated from high school and college with no place to channel his energy. After a seminar lead by Jason Gideon, Reid had felt he finally had a real purpose. Reid then spent three years getting all his Ph.D.'s, before joining the FBI at age nineteen. He spent about six months in a field office before he was ready to join the BAU. Unfortunately, three years later, Gideon left the BAU. Gideon had left a note addressed to Spencer. Sometime in 2008, only a year after Gideon's departure, Reid's friend from the academy, Elle Greenaway, suffered from a mental break. She'd been shot, revived, and then almost raped, a hell of a lot for someone as young as she was. She'd up and left after giving her notice, not telling anyone where she was going. He'd felt completely alone until Prentiss was hired to fill Elle's place. She was like his saving grace, and one of the few people he could actually trust.

Morgan was like the sibling Reid had never had, always supportive but often annoying. They'd become close when Gideon left. Morgan was almost as messed up as Reid after it happened. Unfortunately, it was the nature of the unit. People came and go, disappeared, and reappeared without warning. Despite this, it always hurt when someone whom you'd grown to trust up and left. Especially when this job was your life and you knew about ten people outside of the Bureau, which was the unfortunate case for Reid. He never could get used to people leaving, something that stemmed from his father leaving when he was younger and his mother being a schizophrenic.

"Actually, it was really fun. More fun in fact, than hanging out in some strip club," Reid replied with dignity.

"Ya, okay. Sounds like it'd only be fun for a nerd," Morgan retorted.

"Wow, so clever Morgan!" Prentiss joked sarcastically. Morgan was about to begin in on her with snappy insults when her desk phone rang. "Ooh, saved by the bell!"

"Damn you, Prentiss," Morgan was snarky in his remark, sauntering over to his desk. Reid was focused now on his case file, ignoring the two's bickering.
