After a few hours we were able to go home. As we drove out of the hospital in the darkness I thought that maybe this wasn't so bad, if only I could be less cowardly. We got out of the car and walked into the house. The kitchen was dimly lit and Alex smiled mischievously as he reached into the pantry.
"Since you did amazing, completely, this whole day...I thought...why not get you a little something?" He pulled out a gooey chocolate chip cookie which was as big if not bigger than my face. I grinned wildly as I took it.
"When did you have the time?"
"I told Ethan to watch you while you were sleeping in case something happened, I left and got back when you woke up."
"Oh, sorry."
"Don't be." Alex smiled. "But if I were you I'd save some for tomorrow," He winked.
"Yeah, duh, probably the next week! I can't eat this in one- or even two sittings." I smiled back.
Silence followed.
"Well, it's pretty late, I'm going to bed. Again I advise you not to eat all of that and not to stay up too late."
"Got it," I smiled as he walked to his room.
