I was freaking out. The coffee shop was packed and my coworker hadn’t shown up. On top of that, I had an exam when my shift was over that I wasn’t prepared for.

“This isn’t what I ordered,” a man says grumpily as I bring him his drink. “I ordered a black coffee” I look down in confusion realizing I was holding an iced tea in my hands.

“Oh sorry, wrong person” I say quickly delivering the drinks to the correct people. I wash down some tables, grabbing the tip money they left before hurrying back behind the counter, flipping open my textbook to try to get in some last minute studying in between orders.

“You look stressed,” a voice says, causing me to jump a foot in the air. I look towards the voice, wide eyed and heart pounding.

“You scared the crap out of me,” I say causing him to laugh as I try to get my heart rate under control.

“Sorry” he says with a smile. “Are you ok?” I shake my head.

“We are so busy and I can’t keep up and my coworker didn’t show up and people are getting angry and I have a test that I need to study for” I say my voice progressively getting higher as the enormity of it all piles on. He reaches across the counter grabbing my shoulders.

“Breathe,” he says looking into my eyes and I automatically do as he says as I take in how blue his eyes are. “Is there anything I can do to help?” he asks. I shake my head.

“Not unless you can buy me time to study.” He pauses a second before nodding to himself and walking towards the door. I watch him confused, wondering if he was just leaving but I see him flip the sign to closed.

“Everyone out” he calls and my eyes fly open as I run over to him, slapping a hand over his mouth.

“What are you doing?” I hiss.

“I’m buying you time to study” he says pulling my hand off his mouth.

“You can’t do this, my boss would kill me.”

“Don’t worry, I’ll take care of it.” He says assuringly. I hesitate for a second before nodding, putting my trust in this stranger. He smiles down at me before looking back at the customers who were staring at us in confusion.

“You heard me, get out you shower of cu—“ he starts before I slap a hand over his mouth again.

“Politely” I say glaring at him. He flashes me a cheeky smile as I let my hand fall from him mouth again before I turn to the customers, a few of whom were starting to pack up. “I’m sorry everyone but we are closing early today. I’m sorry for the inconvenience.” This gets them all moving and soon everyone was filing out. I stand by the door, apologizing to all the customers as they leave, locking the door behind the last one. I turn around, surprised to see the blond haired boy cleaning dishes off the tables. I would have expected he left with the rest. “Thanks” I say as he puts the dishes in the sink. He nods before grabbing my textbook. “What are you doing?” I ask confused.

“Testing you,” he says with a smile. His eyes scan down the book. “What’s a proper blood pressure?” he asks.

“One hundred over eighty” I respond. He smiles and nods. For the next hour he quizzes me on various parts of my exam. Eventually though, I glance down at my watch and realize my exam was in 10 minutes. “I have to go,” I say reluctantly and he nods, closing my book and handing it to me. “Thank you so much for everything.”

“It’s no problem. I had fun.” He responds with a smile. “It’s not every day I get to spend time with such a pretty girl” he says cheekily as we walk out the back door to the employee parking lot. I laugh shaking my head as I glance around seeing a few girls glancing over and whispering. I frown slightly confused but ignore it. “So is your car somewhere around here?” I ask glancing around but he shakes his head.

“My ride has been waiting across the street,” he says nodding at a black car.

“You’ve had someone waiting for you for over an hour?” I ask with a disbelieving laugh. He chuckles slightly nodding.

“Hey, he’s paid for it so” he says with a slight shrug and I nod my head. It made sense.

“Well I guess I’ll see you around then,” I say unlocking my car.

“Wait” he says and I turn around. “I know you have your exam now but if you’re not doing anything afterwards would you maybe want to get something to eat?” I smile, nodding my head.

“That sounds great,” I say. He hands me his phone and I quickly punch in my number so we can make plans later and he turns away, jogging back to the black car and sliding in the back. I smile to myself as I get into the car. The girls that had been watching walk over and I roll down my window.

“Are you his girlfriend?” they ask excitedly and I look at them in confusion. Who just asks that?

“Excuse me?” I ask.

“Are you dating Niall?” one of the girls says, repeating herself.

“Niall?” I ask confused.

“Oh my god you don’t even realize who that was do you?” the other girl asks, her eyes growing wide. “That’s Niall Horan. From One Direction”
