“Hey did you manage to get into the house alright?” I ask.

“Yea, the key was right where you said it’d be” the voice responds over the Bluetooth. I was driving home from school and Liam was supposed to have flown in today. Their North America tour had just ended and they were being given a couple of weeks off and Liam was going to be staying with us for part of it. It was a big event because it will be the first time he officially meets my parents. He was really worried about it and it was kind of adorable because he was constantly asking what would happen if they didn’t like him. He was so worried about doing something wrong that he almost didn’t agree to come. My parents would be home right in time for dinner and so Liam had thought it would be a great idea for him to make us all dinner to try to impress them. I smile shaking my head slightly, remembering his eagerness to impress them.

“Ok, I’ll be home in a few minutes. We just finished our meet” I reply.

“Ok I’ll see you soon. Love you” he says.

“Love you to” I say, a smile splitting my face as he hangs up. I drive the rest of the way home and walk inside.

“Mmm something smells good” I say with a grin, inhaling the aroma.

“Catie” a voice responds and pretty soon I’m swept up in a familiar embrace. “I’ve missed you” he says, his face nuzzling my neck.

“Ewww I’m all sweaty” I say jokingly pushing him back.

“I don’t mind” he says with a  grin, pressing a kiss to my forehead.

“I think I smell something burning” I say teasingly causing him to instantly release me.

“Oh no” he yells racing back into the kitchen and I take the opportunity to escape upstairs to shower. When I get out, I change into a pair of shorts and a t-shirt and head downstairs.

“Is dinner almost ready? My parents will be home in a few minutes” I say walking into the kitchen. He nods his head looking at me worriedly.

“I hope they like it” he responds.

“I’m sure they will, how could they not? It’s you,” I say with a smile, giving him a quick peck.

“Catie?” a voice calls inside and I step back from Liam, taking his hand in mine as my parents walk into the room.

“Hey guys,” I say with a smile. “This is Liam,” I say introducing them “Liam, my parents” There is a certain tension and awkwardness between the four of us, and I finally decide that we should all just sit down for dinner. Liam heads back into the kitchen to get the food and my parents and I sit down at the table.

“I hope you guys like meatloaf” he says with a smile, bringing in the tray. Uh oh. I think to myself. I forgot to tell him. I glance over at my mom who has tensed up.

“I’m a vegetarian” she says. I glance over at Liam who was now wearing an expression of horror. He looked like you had just told him you’d killed his dog. It was heartbreaking to see. The tension in the room was unbelievable. Liam almost looked like he was on the verge of tears.

“Oh um well” he starts stuttering trying to figure out a solution. All of a sudden my dad starts laughing, breaking the ice. I join in and soon all of us are doubled over, near tears. After a few minutes of this, my dad eventually stands up shaking his head as he walks to the phone.

“Looks like its pizza tonight” he says giving a teasing wink to Liam. And with that, I knew he'd been accepted.
