“No” I say crossing my arms, shaking my head.

“C’mon please” my friend whines pulling on my arm begging me to go.

“I hate dancing though” I say wearily. We had been having this same argument all month. Ever since she had found out I wasn’t going to prom she’d been on my case to go.

“But One Direction is performing” she says pleadingly. I sigh, shaking my head. Yes, I liked them. No, I wasn’t crazy about them. I was logical enough to realize nothing would ever come of fan-girling over them like countless other girls.

“I still don’t understand how they got them to perform here,” I say shaking my head, my resolve fading despite how hard I tried to cling to the last threads of it.

“Connections are wonderful things” She says with a shrug. “And please” she begs again.

“ I don’t have a dress” I point out.

“Oh please” she says rolling her eyes. “I can get you a dress in two minutes. You have tons in your closet, there’s plenty in the costume room that are fitted to you from all your shows, plus if you don’t like those, the stores are still open.”

“What about tickets? I don’t have one of them either” I was hoping I could beat her logically. She rolls her eyes and reaches into her purse pulling out two tickets.

“Got it taken care of, I got you one a week ago because I knew I’d be able to persuade you.

I grit my teeth. “Fine” I say with a sigh as she squeals with joy. “But I’m not dancing” I warn as she hugs me.

“Yea yea” she says waving me off as she leaps towards my closet, searching for a dress.

An hour later, my room was destroyed and we still hadn’t found a dress.

“Let’s just give up” I say falling back onto my bed, ontop of mountains of clothes. She lets out a sigh, dropping the dress in hand back onto the floor.

“Wait” she says suddenly, her eyes alight. “I know just the dress” She runs out of the room and I just sit there, staring at the spot she was at wondering where she was going. Twenty minutes later, she’s got it.

“I’d completely forgot about this” I breathe touching the shimmering green-blue fabric. It was the dress I’d worn in a play a couple months ago. I’d been cast as a princess and there had literally been dozens of dresses that I’d had to wear. This one had been my favorite by far. I quickly slip it on, making sure it still fit.

“You look perfect” my friend says with a smile. We quickly get ready to go since we had wasted so much time finding a dress; the prom was starting in half an hour.

“We are so late” my friend says frusturated as we walk through the door of the hotel the dance was being held at.

“Only like 10 minutes” I say reasonably. Considering the amount of time we had to get ready, I thought we did fairly well.

“That still means we probably missed their first song” she grumbles. I roll my eyes as we walk into the ballroom. Sure enough the first thing I hear was the boys singing one of their songs.

I wanna stay up all night
And jump around until we see the sun
I wanna stay up all night
And find a girl and tell her she’s the one

I smile as I look down at the crowd as we begin descending the stairs to the dance floor. My eyes land on the boys who were jumping up and down on the stage as they sang and my eyes land on Liam. I’d always had a soft spot for the Wolverhampton boy. He seemed so genuine and sweet. To my shock, the moment my eyes land on him, he looks up locking eyes with me. My heart beats rapidly in my chest as he stops singing, just staring at me. The other boys seem to notice but keep on singing, picking up the slack and finishing the song. He finally seems to come to his senses at the very end and joins in for the last up all night.

“Come on” my friend says, tugging me down the rest of the stairs, breaking me out of my stupor. I try to shake the image of Liam staring at me out of my head as I follow her over to a table and plop down. I look over at the stage where the boys have paused as they huddle together to try to determine what to sing next. It appeared that Liam was arguing for a switch in the set list or something. He appeared to have gotten his way when the rest of the boys nodded their heads defeated and a smirk appears on Liam’s face. He tells the band which song is next and they start the intro to my favorite song. I grin as the familiar intro starts playing and I hear a gasp of shock ring through the crowd. I look over and see only four of the boys on stage.

“The light shines. It’s getting hot on my shoulder”

I frown confused as I search for where the voice was coming from. I notice the crowd start parting and I see Liam walking down the center. My eyes widen slightly. Talk about engaging the crowd, I think to myself. I’d be worried about getting jumped if I was him.

“I don’t mind. This time it doesn’t matter,” he continues singing as he walks directly towards me. His eyes are locked on me. I feel my heart thumping in my chest as he comes to a stop directly in front of my friend and I. I glance over at her and see her standing there wide eyed and mouth open, obviously just in as much shock as I am.

“Cause your friends, they look good, but you look better” he sings, winking at my friend who instantly turned red at this. He turns back to face me and I feel the world melt away leaving only the two of us there.

“Don’t you know all night I’ve been waiting for a girl like you to come around” he continues. I feel my face turn red and he gives me that adorable smile of his. He lets the mic fall to his side as the other boys start singing the chorus.

“Hey, I’m Liam” he says with a grin.

“Gwen” I say softly.

“Well you know what Gwen?” he asks “This song is right. It only took a minute for you to steal my heart tonight.”
