Jake you idiot

Author's pov

Jake,Norm,Hakguk, and Grace were on their way to the forest nearby the base with Trudy and some other machine gun happy marine. Hakguk looks over happily seeing the vast rainforest under him. Norm pats his shoulder and points to the waterfalls. "Wow." Was all Hakguk could say.

After a while Trudy finds a spot to land and she descends carefully. Once the helicopter safely landed Hakguk jumps out along with Grace and Norm. Jake grabs a gun from the back and makes sure it has bullets. "Cut the engine!" Grace yells. Trudy nods and turns the engine off making everything go silent.

The marine was about to jump off when Grace stopped him. "Stay with the ship one idiot with a gun is enough." The marine nods looking relived that he doesn't have to tag along. Hakguk grabs his backpack which contains notepads, books, and pencils along with binoculars and some snacks. "Norm your journal?" Grace mentions.

Norm gasps and goes to grab his journal. Once he returns the group continues to venture into the forest. Jake moves the gun around at any noise he hears. "Relax marine you're making me nervous." While norm stumbles a bit Hakguk and Grace move gracefully on logs and over rocks seeming unbothered. They walk further until Grace halts, "perfect." She sets her bag down and Norm follows suit.

Hakguk pulls out a notepad and a pencil, he begins to sketch what he sees and describes it in great detail. "How will they know we are here?" Norm asks. Hakguk notices something move,it looks blue so he sketches it before looking away, he heads to a plant and crouches down. "Beautiful." He softly touches the petal before sketching it.

"I'm sure they are watching us right now." Norm and Jake gulp at the thought that they are being watched. "Look at this norm. See those right there is where the roots of the two trees interact." Hakguk walks over and smiles. "As you have stated the forest is alive including the plants does that mean the roots of the trees are what sends the electromagnetic communication waves allowing for the natives to interact?" Grace looks at Hakguk and smiles. "Yes...at least that's my hypothesis."

Hakguk sketches the roots then he comments. "If that's the case then there must be a sole single tree that is connected to all the other trees no? Allowing for the communication ? If that's the case why don't we follow the energy radiation of the roots to the main tree?" Grace scratched her head in thought. "Hm I never actually thought of that."

Hakguk leaves the two scientist to do their work and instead he follows Jake. "What's up?" Jake asks. "I want to sketch more so I thought why not follow a curious soul?" Jake grins and begins to walk deeper into the forest with Hakguk Following.

They walk a bit further when they stumble onto a glade full of spiral like plants that reached a foot pass them. "Ah I've seen these in Grace's book they are called Helicoradians touch one you will like the result." Jake didn't need Hakguk to tell him that because he was already touching plant after plant having fun with the result. However that was short lived when they all shrank. "That's odd?" Hakguk pulled out his glasses and began to right something down when they heard a roar.

Hakguk looks up and gasps. "Oh my god a hammerhead titanothere! I'm actually seeing one up close!" Hakguk right away begins to scribble away while Jake is about to piss himself with fright. He raises his gun but Grace comes just in time before Jake can shoot. "Don't shoot!!! You'll only piss him off!!" Hakguk noticed the hammer head starts to paw at the dirt. "Oh shit." He rights something down in his notepad.

He opens his back pack and placed all his belongings in a ziplock bag. He then puts his back pack on just in time to see Jake running at the Titanothere and vice versa. Soon however the hammerhead stops and runs away. "Ah ha! Who's bad now!" Hakguk pushes his glasses up and slowly turns around when he sees Grace's scared face. He stiffens up at the sight of a Thanntor. "Jake." He mutters but Jake is too busy celebrating to notice.

"That's what I'm talking about bitch!!!"

Hakguk gulps and tries not to move. "Jake." He says a bit louder. Jake turns around and instantly his cocky attitude drops.

"Uhhh what about this one?! Run don't run!!?" Hakguk took off his glasses and placed them in his pocket. "Run! Definitely run!" Hakguk didn't need to be told twice as he sprinted over a log and kept running. Jake was close behind as the thantor chased them. Hakguk launches himself between two trees with Jake following suit. Jake pulls out his gun once the thantor starts clawing at them. "Don't shoot!!" But Jake didn't listen and he started shooting.

Hakguk found a way to escape so he crawled away while Jake threw his gun at the thantor. The thantor manages to grab Jake so Jake takes off the backpack and he trials behind Hakguk who looked at the thantor then at the water below. "Jump!" Jake grabbed Hakguk and he jumped. They are submerged under water, Hakguk sees the shadow of the Thantor retreat.

They both resurface and gasp for air, Hakguk wraps his arm around a rock while Jake grabs a tree branch and hulls himself up. He lays on the ground panting heavily while Hakguk stands up and rings his shirt from the water. "Jake you Idiot!!!" Jake looks over and grins half heartedly before he hacks up a bit of water. "Where is your bag?" Jake questions. Hakguk points over to the bag which is floating down the river.

"I would have drowned if I didn't let it go." Jake notices Hakguk's crescent fallen face. "We will find it alright?" Hakguk looks over and sighs sadly. "Let's get moving its best we don't stay by the stream for too long after all animals get parched too from a long day of hunting." Jake looks at the setting sun then he nods and together the two men walk deeper into the forest.

With Grace

"I'm going to have to call it, guys. We're not allowed to run night ops. Colonel's orders."
Trudy says mournfully. Grace looks up from her binoculars "shit!"
Trudy turns around and begins to fly back, " Sorry, Doc. They are just gonna have to hang on 'till morning."
Grace looks over with a worried expression on her face, "they won't make it till morning."
