Just Imagine

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You stood in the kitchen waiting for the water to boil so you could throw the spaghetti noodles in. While waiting, you stirred the homemade tomato sauce, adding a bit more garlic salt to the mix.
"Mommy!" You heard little feet running toward you and turned around to see your four year old daughter.
"What, Lucy?" You crouched down on one knee as she threw her arms around your neck.
"Where's daddy?"
"Baby, you know daddy has to work.." She backed up and looked at you with sad eyes.
"I know, mommy. When will he be home?"
"I don't know, Sweetie. Hopefully soon because dinner is almost ready!"
"What are you making?"
"Spaghetti!"
"Yay!" You couldn't help but giggle at her excitement.
"Now why don't you go play until it's all done? I'll call you in when it's ready."
"Ok, mommy." She turned around and ran out of the kitchen. You listened to her little feet pound up the stairs and into her bedroom.
Once you ou turned around, the water was boiling, so quickly placed the noodles in the water. As you thought about Lucy, you sighed. You hated that Logan hadn't been home very much for the past couple months because of the movie he was working on. You understood, but you still hated it, especially how sad it made your little girl.
After a few more minutes you checked the noodles and realized they were done. You turned the burner off and carefully picked the pot up and carried it to the sink, then slowly poured the water and noodles into the strainer. Once you got all the water out you poured the noodles into a big bowl before taking out two regular plates and your daughter's favorite bear shaped plate. You lined each plate up on the counter and scooped pasta onto each, as well as steamed broccoli and carrots that had just finished in the steamer. Before pouring sauce over the pasta you turned the burner off. After the plates were all ready you cut Lucy's food into small pieces, hoping she wouldn't make too much of a mess but knowing you wouldn't get that lucky.
You got milk out of the fridge and poured some into a small glass for Lucy, then poured yourself a glass of ice water. Once everything was ready you brought the plates into the dining room and set the table. You went back into the kitchen to get the drinks and sighed when you saw Logan's plate still on the counter. You hadn't heard from him since the night before because of filming, and you didn't want to bring the plate out and set his spot in case he couldn't make it home like planned because it would just get Lucy's hopes up. Besides, you two fought, and it didn't sound like he wanted to come home any time soon either. You can't help but think back to the phone call..
You were pouring Lucy a small glass of milk like she had asked before bed when your phone rang with the all too familiar ringtone. You smiled, but at the same time you couldn't help but feel your heart sink a little bit. You knew the news wouldn't be good.
"Hello?"
"Hey, babe! What are you up to?"
"Oh, you know, just tending to our demanding girl before bed!" You both laughed.
"What is it this time? Hot coco before bed?"
"No, warm milk. I don't even know where she got this one from!"
