There are many things in this world
That make me stop and catch my breath.
I shall attempt to name it all here
And take it upon my head like a pretty wreath.
I pause in wonderment and utter delight
When the breeze carries the perfume of rain
Sprayed lightly on the tips of the grass
That anticipate alongside me with the thought of relieving pain.
I gasp when the skies are brilliantly clear
And I can see the stars from the heavens above.
They glitter; those natural sources of shine
And remind me that even balls of gases have their worth.
I halt in my steps in the crowded room
And let the heat of the night diffuse in-
The warmth of conversation and laughter and beer
Becomes tangible and musical amongst the din.
I pause and ponder
The words that sing and echo across white pages
Of painstakingly, typed out, crossed out edited work-
That is beautiful. This is more than time and wages.
I laugh with awe at the sight of passion
And the steadfast, hot, burning taste of love.
The desire for something, someone, anything
Is to be celebrated foremost and above.
And I smile with hope at the sound of birds
Emerging from their cocoon of warmth and shelter after the storm.
It's the sound of life and hope and it makes me glow-
All these special, spectacular things amongst the norm.
