The number of lives it had touched and affected, torn apart and ended, was astronomical. There was no doubt that it was one of the most horrible wars that the earth had ever experienced.

For those of you who read the first ending, I still have a special place in my heart for that ending. Unfortunately, I have always felt that it was lacking, and that it rung untrue. While I hate the fact that, in the end, a happy ending could not exist, I feel that this new ending more accurately reflects what would really have happened. While I feel sad, for Freidrich, as one of my characters, is almost a part of me, I feel more right about this ending.
