Midge's Point of View.

 “Unlock the door.”

Jimmy looked at me through the car window, from where he was sat in the driver’s seat of his car. Every door was locked and he’d been out here for about two hours now. Seeing as everyone else had insisted on leaving him to think by himself, I decided to do something about it.

“Not right now, M.” Jimmy called back, leaning his head against the window. His voice was muffled by the fact that there was a door between us, but I just about managed to hear him.

“Yes right now.” I snapped back. “Open the motherfucking door Jimmy and let me talk to you.”

He glanced at me again for a second, before sighing and unlocking the car. Before he could change his mind, I practically sprinted to the passenger side and yanked the door open, sliding into the car and then shutting the door again behind me.

Despite me being here, Jimmy just rested his head against the window again, ignoring my presence. It was so unusual to see him all unhappy, that I felt like I was in some kind of parallel universe.

“It’s weird when you don’t smile.” I commented, trying to get him to talk.

“What’s there to smile about?” He grunted back.

“Plenty.” I shrugged, only half-meaning that.

“Oh, really?” He turned to look at me, raising his eyebrows. “Let’s go through some reasons not to smile then, shall we, Midge? Number one; we killed someone.”

“Shh!” I frantically said out of habit, raising a finger to my lips and whipping my head around in all direction. “We agreed not to talk about that.”

“It still happened.”

“Yeah, well, Brian was the one driving the car.” I irritably snapped, not liking this side of Jimmy at all.

“Go on then, Midge!” He spat back just as harshly. “If you’re so caught up on the fact that Brian was the one that actually hit him with the car, why don’t you go straight to the police? Oh, look, you can use my phone! Remember, in America, it’s nine-one-one, not nine-nine-nine.” He fished his phone out of his pocket and threw it into my lap with force, making me wince slightly. He then continued to stare at me, and laughed bitterly when I didn’t make any movement. “Of course, you wouldn’t do that. If Brian went to jail, who would you have to drool over?”

“You’re being a prick.” I stated openly, trying to force the tears away from my eyes. Jimmy had never acted like this before, and it was actually really upsetting me. “You’ve got no right to say these things to me, Jimmy. I only came here to try and cheer you up. Oh, and to let you know that your pregnant girlfriend is upstairs, crying her eyes out because you walked away from her when she needed you most.”

I turned and went to open the car door again, wanting to get away from him while he was acting like this. It felt horrible, seeing as Jimmy was always the one that I went to when I needed cheering up. He never had a bad word to say about anyone, and there’s always a smile on his face. Now, he was acting like...this. I didn’t even know that he had such a horrid side to him.

“Midge!” He said, sighing and grabbing my arm before I could get out of the car. “Look, I’m sorry, okay?”

I stayed still, waiting to see if he would say anything else, when he didn’t, I turned to look at him, raising my eyebrows when I noticed the tears in his eyes.

I’d never seen Jimmy cry before.

“Jimbo, are you crying?” I stupidly asked, my voice sounding just as shocked as I felt.
