Lucky’s POV

Lucky pushed the door to the school’s library open angrily and stomped inside, gripping onto the teddy bear in her hand. She wished she could just throw it in the bin. She spotted Maria sitting at one of the tables and she made her way towards her.

“Someone’s in a delightful mood” Maria said in a sarcastic voice. Lucky glared at her friend and slammed the teddy bear on the table. It was holding a heart which said ‘sorry’ in cursive. “Apology gift from Sam?”

“Yes! When is he going to get it through his head that I don’t want to be with him anymore?” she asked, banging her head on the desk in frustration. The librarian glared at her and so did a few students who were studying a few tables away. “As you were” she told them. She noticed Carter, Daniel and Nick were sitting at the table next to them playing some game. A tug smiled at the corner of her lips when she saw Carter. She had been feeling strange around him lately but she couldn’t describe it.

“Why did you break up with Sam anyway?” Maria asked. Lucky’s mind instantly went to Carter but that couldn’t possibly be the reason, even though he made it known how much he didn’t like Sam. She was never one to listen to people.

“I don’t know. I guess I was just tired of everything” she answered with a shrug, resting her chin on her fist. She looked up at Carter once more, she had to admit, he was extremely attractive with the tousled black hair and the brown eyes and everything else.

“You like Carter don’t you?” Maria whispered suddenly. Lucky’s eyes widened and she shook her head quickly.

“No we’re just friends” she muttered, looking up at the boys and prayed they won’t hearing the conversation. That would be embarrassing. They were still engrossed in their game so she figured they won’t hearing anything.

“Yeah, you haven’t skipped Geography or English since you two started talking and those are the two classes you have with him” Maria whispered, looking strangely excited. Lucky shook her head with a sigh at her friend’s assumption. “And plus why did you go over to his house the day you and Sam broke up?” she asked.

“To tell him that me and Sam broke up” Lucky answered dryly.

“No because you were going to admit your undying love for him!” Maria exclaimed excitedly and started clapping and jumping up and down. “Oh my gosh, that’s going to be such a beautiful wedding and then you’ll have beautiful children and-”

Lucky grabbed Maria by the forearm and forced her to sit down when everyone in the library turned to look at them, including Daniel, Nick and Carter who cocked one eyebrow at the pair. She smiled at him, trying to play it off as nothing and he gave her a sleepy smile and went back to talking to the guys.

“Does he like you as much as you like him? Because I think he does” Maria whispered. Lucky felt her heart race faster but she shook it off.

“He doesn’t and I don’t like him like that. It’s a nice balance.”

“This is exactly how I was when I first started liking Nick, all in denial and stuff and now we’re together” Maria said, giving Nick a dreamy look. Lucky smiled, she could only hope that one day she’ll find the right person for her, but she knew for sure Sam wasn’t the right person for her. “Carter’s smiling at you” she whispered.

Lucky looked to see Carter giving her a small smile which she returned, trying not to blush. “I don’t care.”

“You know Carter is hot, what’s not to like?” Maria asked, giving Lucky a teasing look. She flicked Maria’s arm making her wince in pain.
