Nate's mother in the m/m.

This is dedicated to all my baes who have been on me for an update!!!!

Also if you guys haven't heard I posted a new story called risk it all. I wrote it in response to some readers telling me they had low self esteem due to their skin. Give it a try. If you like it, add it to your library.

Amber POV-

I decided to invite Nate's mother over our house for dinner. August thought it was a bit awkward and maybe it was but I had to remind him this lady had nobody. Her son and her husband were gone. I couldn't abandon her as well. Although I hadn't heard from her in forever.

"Assata you've just grown up so." She smiled eating her food. I fixed grilled chicken, with shrimp and mashed potatoes with cheese, onions and bell peppers.

"I don't know you." Sata said bluntly.

"But oh I know you." She smiled.

"How?" Sata asked.

Aug looked at me.

"We have a special friend in common." She looked at both me and Aug.

"You know me?" Auggie asked chewing his chicken.

"No but you are a handsome young man."

"What do you say Auggie?" I rubbed his head.

"Thank you." He said with a full mouth.

"Whose our friend?" Sata asked.

Nate's mother Phylicia cleared her throat.

"Well it's this angel that watches over you and he told me to tell you hi."

"I wanna see him." Sata clapped excited.

"You will one day. Hopefully no time soon tho."

"What do you do Ms. Parker?" Aug changed the subject.

"Well I traveled the world. Trying to make peace with my son by scattering his ashes. I guess that makes me a world traveler." She let out a slight laugh.

"I think it's just beautiful Phylicia. You should write a book and dedicate it to Nate about your travels. I know you have some and I know it will help others who have faced loss." I suggested, eating my food.

"You think so?"

"Oh yes. I want to read those stories."

"I'll consider that Amber. And what about you? How have you been?"

"Real good. My Favorite Man has a birthday coming up." I kissed all over Auggie's cheeks and he giggled.

"Stop mommy."

"Me and Aug celebrated five years. My baby Sata's growing up. I'm still working. Got the new baby. Life isn't perfect but I'm blessed."

"I'm glad to hear." She didn't say too excited.

"What's wrong?" I asked.

"I just don't understand how someone can die a brutal death one minute and all of sudden you're over it. Like they didn't exist." She shrugged.

Aug tucked his bottom lip I knew he wanted to say something.

"Regardless if you see me moping around Phylicia. Know that his death has affected me."

"Who died mommy?" Assata asked.

"Can we have dinner please and y'all talk about this another time. Not in front of my kids." August said with authority.

"A kid my son helped raised while you were off doing God knows what." She looked at him not intimidated.

"We are not going to do this." I interrupted the fight brewing. "August always acknowledges Nate's role in Sata's life and I am forever grateful. But I couldn't stay stuck  Phylicia.  I had to move on."

"To someone who treated you like trash, while my son gave you everything! Everything!" She screamed to the top of her lungs then put her head in her hands and broke down.

The kids were a little bit scared from her outburst. Auggie came to sit on my lap.

"He's gone and it's all because I stayed longer than I should have. I should've had the courage to leave when I could. But I couldn't. I couldn't. And I have to live with my sons blood on my hands forever."

"Why she cry mommy?" Auggie looked at me sad.

"Aug can you take the kids please." I asked him.!

Aug eyed me and got Sata and Auggie.

I went over to her and wrapped my arms around her.

"It's not your fault Phylicia."

"It is Amber. I failed him. I couldn't protect him from his father's rage."

"You were just trying to survive too." I held her face with both my hands to look at me.

"Nate understood and it's why no matter how cruel the world was to him, he was always so loving and kind. I have never met someone with the heart of Nate. Oh god. I'm crying now." I felt my tears.

"The way he comforted me and took care of Assata and made me feel so beautiful, he really was an angel. And I don't cry as much because I know he's still around. He's still around. And he's smiling more than he ever has. This isn't something I believe it's something I know. Okay?"

She shook her head yes and we hugged tight.

"You should move back to Atlanta. You got governor Parker here. You got me. You've been dealing with it by yourself for way too long."

"I think you're right." She wiped her eyes.

"I'll take you back to the hotel to get rest and we'll discuss next steps alright?"

"Sounds like a plan." She let out a soft chuckle.

"Sorry for the outburst."

"It's alright. They'll live."
I smiled and we walked out to my car.

-----
"Baby can you give me a back massage. My lower back is sore." I got on the bed next to Aug.

He ignored me and kept reading some dental book.

8 years of this shit is getting on my nerve. 😩

"What is it now August?" I turned to him. Although all I wanted was one if his infamous massages to relieve my pregnant back pain.

He ignore me. I sighed.

"I'm not gonna let you drain me tonight. I can't." I fixed my pillows to lay down.

"Right cause I'm a burden and a drain. But Nate's one of the best people you ever met."  He scoffed.

See this is the fine line I deal with, with having an ex-husband.

"Yes I loved Nate and he played a very vital role in my life when you were acting like a jackass. So no
I'm not going to forget him. But everyday I show you, how important you are to me. So get out your fucking feelings. Goodnight."

I was not doing this with him tonight.

He rolled his eyes and went back to reading. He'll get over it. He knows his place in my life, we have two kids and one on the way to show that. So I wasn't going to baby him.

Oooo he makes me sick sometimes. 😖
