"Where is it!?" Mako hissed when he stomped into Jay's office and slammed the door,
"Geez! Where's what!?" Jay heaved as he snapped awake,
"My evidence box. Everything I had on the Triple Threats,"
"Where do you think? I-It's in evidence. A few detectives picked it up while you were—
"Without my permission!?—
"Mako, calm down. With Shah back in custody and proof from a few eyewitnesses that said he's doing business with them, all Triple Threat evidence was collected," Jay reassured him, "Besides, that box had been collecting dust under your desk for the past six months. Why all of the sudden interest in it?"
"Viper broke into her house," Mako seethed with his fists clenched,
"Who? T-The sister!?" Jay gasped when it finally clicked, "You're still pursuing her?"
"I like her okay," Mako snapped while he rummaged through a handful of files on Jay's shelf, "A-And even if she didn't need my help right now. I was going to see her again,"
"Knowing Shah, I can bet for a fact that apple doesn't fall too far from the tree," Jay pointed out, "H-How do you know she's not wrapped up in all the chaos he's c—
"I don't," Mako breathed angrily, cutting Jay off before he could even get a chance to make him second guess himself, "But I can tell she's scared," he sighed defeatedly,
"Scared or not. You of all people shouldn't be this involved and you know that,"
"Hmph. Well...it's too late for that," Mako smirked slyly,
"What makes you say that?"
"Oh, no reason. I'll be borrowing this by the way," Mako grinned with a thick white folder tucked under his arm,
"You slept with her, didn't you?" Jay questioned as he rose to his feet, massaging the bridge of his nose in frustration, "Mako, you met her six hours ago,"
"Six and a half," Mako corrected him, "Besides, she was stressed. I offered relief, what else was I supposed to do?" he questioned before leaving,
"Maybe...I don't know...talk to her?" Jay scoffed as he followed Mako out the front door and into the parking lot, "O-Or take my initial advice and stay away from her,"
"I tried talking to her. She's getting real good at slamming doors in my face," Mako huffed while he fished for his keys,
"And apparently you're good at not taking a hint," Jay mumbled sourly,
"Are you going to help me? Or you got another one of those up your sleeve?" Mako chuckled,
"Ugh. Fine," Jay eventually sighed before hopping into the passenger seat, "Where are we going?" he asked in exhaustion,
"21st Street. Viper's Restaurant,"
"I'm sorry. What!?"

[Republic City Prison]

Shah's bed was empty. Almost as if he had vanished into thin air. Had he waited any longer, he might've run into more than one guard, but thankfully he had only needed to get past the new guy, who had been too scared shitless to defend himself when Shah had whisked him off his feet and sent him soaring into the cold brick wall,

One hour later

"Man down!" one of the guards yelled into his walkie, "I repeat. Man down in the East Wing. No sign of a suspect. Gun and walkie are stolen as well. Rookie, what happened?" he asked as he carefully pulled the young man to his feet,
"He...H-He can fly,"

[Viper's Restaurant]

"Mako, I am begging you. Please don't go in there and most importantly, don't make me go in there either," Jay begged when Mako parked his squad car across the street,
"I didn't say you had to go in," Mako chuckled,
"Fair enough, but what do I have to say for you to listen to the first thing I said,"
"Which was?" Mako asked while he reloaded his gun,
"Don't get involved!" Jay shouted with concern, "S-Stop seeing this woman a-and don't go confront the leader of the Triple Threats in his own restaurant," he wheezed, nearly choking on his words,

Mako sat on Jay's warning for a full minute, clenching his jaw tight before he spoke as calmly as he could,
"He held a knife to her neck," he admitted with disdain in his voice,
"Did she tell you that?"
"She didn't have to," Mako replied frustratedly,
"Oh, so exactly why are we here then?" Jay asked carefully,
"I just wanna see if he'll admit it," Mako hissed before he hopped out of the car and slammed the door shut,
"And if he doesn't!?" Jay yelled from the window,
"Oh, he will!"
