Dan: You really didn't want to go to this party. In all honesty, you'd much rather be sitting at home reading, or on the internet. But, your friend had coerced you by saying that she hadn't hung out with you much recently. When the two of you arrived at the party, she immediately ran off, leaving you nursing your drink at the back of the room... so much for hanging out. When you got tired of watching people making fools of themselves, you went out on the deck. It was much quieter outside, although you could still hear the thump of the bass from the sound system. You stood there for a little while looking at the flashing lightning bugs until a guy came outside and stood next to you. He didn't say anything at first. "Did you know fireflies sometimes eat each other?" he asked before taking a sip of his drink. "Hmm. I was not aware of that. That's a bit... gruesome." He laughed. You guys spent the rest of the night on the desk chatting while everyone inside made sure that they wouldn't remember the night.

Phil: "You've got to be kidding me," you muttered under your breath. You stared at the vending machine before trying to shake it. Your drink stayed firmly in place. "Do you want me to try?" You turned around and a tall guy with black hair was walking towards you. "Go for it." You stood back as he tried to get the drink loose, but to no avail. "Sorry," he muttered. You laughed a little. "It's alright. I don't need that much sugar anyway." He smiled. "Would you, uh, like to join me for coffee?" he asked shyly. "Go get coffee with a stranger?" you gasped. "I'm not a stranger, I'm Phil!" he said while holding out his hand for a handshake. You shook it as you introduced yourself. "Well, Phil, let's hope the coffee doesn't get stuck somehow!" You guys spent the rest of the afternoon in the coffee shop getting to know each other.
