"SO, WEREWOLVES?" I inquired.

"Just about every myth we've ever heard of," he replied. "Wolfsbane is like a poison to them, they can shift, get stronger on the full moon."

"How do they shift?" I asked.

"It's triggered," he answered. "Rise in heartbeat and anger... What's worse is I don't think Scott's the only werewolf in town. He must have been bitten by one."

"The body was Laura Hale, Derek Hale's sister," I said, thinking as I talked. "I don't think her body was torn apart by an animal. It looked more like it was sliced in half and something's got me thinking that it's the Argents. Dad said they were hunters... maybe of supernatural creatures. So, that means Laura Hale was a werewolf, meaning so is Derek Hale."

"You should be the next Nancy Drew or something," Alex commented. "Got all that just from a body and a memory."

"The one who attacked us six years ago, she was an Argent," I told him. "But she was blonde. None of the Argents are blonde."

"How about we focus on school?" Alex said. "We said no showcasing powers, no catching too much attention."

"Well, you're Mr. Popular catching a lot of attention," I remarked.

"You know what I mean, Lu," he said, turning towards me. "Besides, I think Olivia will ground you the next time she sees you somewhere you're not supposed to be. We don't have to be involved."

"I followed that woman in the memory and it led me to the house," I told him urgently. "Have you ever wondered how the Hale house burnt down? What if— "

"Lucy," Alex said, stern. "It's probably nothing, okay? If we get involved, people will know what we are. We're the last of our kind... at least in the states, but still. Okay, what if you die trying to find this person, hmm? What do I tell Olivia in a way it makes sense? I don't have the power to erase her memories."

I sighed, feeling defeated.

"Okay... fine," I nodded and stepped out of the car as he did. "But if I feel something off, I'm going to investigate. Don't you want to know why they killed our parents?"

"They're hunters," he said. "They don't need a reason."

Walking across the parking lot, I noticed the many police cars in the area. Both Alex and I knew something must have happened.

"I need to finish a fake interview on Mr. Lahey before school starts," I informed. "See you later."

I walked off, towards Mr. Lahey's office. I turned the corner, suddenly bumping into someone else. I tripped over my feet, thinking I was gonna fall, however, I didn't.

"Sorry, I didn't see you," the boy said, and I realized it was Lucas.

"Thanks for catching me," I smiled, gaining my balance.

"Hey... now that your brother's gone," he began. "Do you wanna hang out sometime?"

"As in a date?" I questioned.

"Only if you want it to be," he replied.

"Sure, I'd like that," I said, smiling.

Lucas wasn't a bad guy and would be a good first boyfriend. He was only a year older. He was kind, thoughtful, and funny, however, I didn't know any of his downsides.

"How about this week?" he suggested. "Are you free?"

"We'll see. I have to— "

I was cut off as the P.A system sounded. "Attention, students, this is your principal. I know you're all wondering about the incident that occurred last night to one of our buses. While the police work to determine what happened, classes will proceed as scheduled. Thank you."
