She couldn't breathe. Her legs couldn't hold her up and she collapsed onto the bathroom floor, sobs wracking her body. She couldn't have another baby. She still had a 9 month old, she couldn't handle another baby.
And what would Toby think? She shakily sucked in a gulp of air as she contemplated her options. They'd only known each other for a year and been together for 8 months, adding a baby to the equation was not going to work.
"Spence, you okay in there?"
But Toby was loyal and kind and sweet, he wouldn't leave her right?
"Spencer are you okay?"
The panic in Toby's voice was clear but she was so wrapped up in her own thoughts that she couldn't speak.
"Spencer!"
Louds thumps could be heard against the door, followed by the sound of splintering wood. She finally snapped back into reality, yelling at Toby to stop.
"I'm fine Toby! Stop! I'm okay."
Toby breathed a sigh of relief, running his fingers through his hair. "Can you unlock the door?"
She gulped. "No."
"Spence, is something going on?"
She stayed silent and her silence confirmed his worries.
"Do you want to talk?"
"I don't know."
"Can you at least unlock the door?"
She huffed, getting to her feet and slowly turning the lock.
"Can I come in?"
She sniffled. "I guess?"
Toby slowly swung the door open, taking in his girlfriend's tear streaked face and red eyes. He didn't say anything, neither did she. They both knew that she just needed to be held.
His arms enveloped her and she buried her face into his shoulder. He smelt of wood chippings and vanilla. She loved that smell. It was calming and peaceful. It always helped her relax.
"I'm pregnant." She murmured into his shoulder.
"What?" Toby's eyes widened.
She let out a shaky breath. "Yeah. I-I wasn't sure how to tell you. Are you upset?"
"What? No, of course not Spence. I'm happy just, shocked. I didn't think we were planning on starting so soon."
"Me neither." She sighed. "What do you want to do about it?"
He slowly unwrapped his arms from around her slender figure and gently held her shoulders. "I want to keep it. And raise it with you. With my amazing, spectacular girlfriend. Sure it's a bit soon but we can handle it. Plus Hope will be a great big sister and love having a little brother or sister to play with."
"You make everything sound so perfect." She mumbled.
"Hey." He tilted her chin up to meet his face. "Nothing's perfect but this will be damn close to it."
"Really? You mean it?" She asked.
He responded by placing a kiss on her forehead. "Of course. I love you Spencer Hastings."
"I love you too Toby Cavanaugh."
They embraced again before Toby's lips locked on Spencer's. Almost as if to say we'll be okay. Me, you, Hope and our baby. We'll all be okay.
Together as a family.
