I just woke up and man am I tired. I smiled and tiredly blinked my eyes. I put on my dark tinted glasses and did my morning routine and got dressed. I dressed in a simple shirt and shorts. I put on a simple key necklace and walked out. I walk around barefoot all the time unless on a mission or outside the cave. My snakes were brown and were having a good day because they were very at ease. I left to the kitchen to get an apple. Once I got there I started shivering because of how cold it was in here.
"Why is it so cold in here?" I asked grabbing an apple.
"The heater is broken." Connor said. I nodded.
"Sounds like a beach day to me." Nightwing smiled. I nodded.
"I'm all for that. Cold blooded people like me don't like the cold." I said shivering.
"I heard beach day!" Garfield said running in followed by the rest of the team.
"Go get your swim gear and we'll meet back here in an hour." Nightwing said. They went off leaving me, M'gann, Connor, Robin and Nightwing.
"M'gann let's pack some food for everyone. Now you guys go get your stuff." I said to the boys. They left and me and M'gann started packing some ice chests full of food.
"Ok M'gann I'm going to need help picking a swim suit." I told her once we were done. She nodded.
"This is going to be so much fun. I can't wait to get in the water." She said as we got to my room.
"I'm going to just sunbathe on a rock." I said opening my drawer and pulling a few swimsuits.
"I think you'll look good in this one." She said pointing to my favorite one. I smiled.
"Thank you M'gann." I said.
"No problem. I'm going to go change." She said. I nodded and got into my swimsuit once she was gone. I slipped on a cover up just until we get outside because of how cold it is in here. I smiled and played on my phone to kill time.
~Time Skip~
I got tired of waiting and went to set things up outside. I put up tables and an umbrella and went inside to bring the food out. When I went in I saw everybody already here.
"Can someone help me take the food out we have a lot?" I asked. The boys actually brought all of it out. Cassie came up next to me.
"Nightwing was so checking you out." She whispered making me laugh.
"No he wasn't. Was he?" I asked. She nodded laughing.
"He was. I think he likes you." She continued making my heart start beating rapidly. Nightwing is hot. We all know this. He is easy to look at and has a great personality. I'm allowed to have a crush even if I am a monster.
"Doubt he actually does but a girl can dream. Now come on I want to sunbathe." I said speeding up so we were outside faster. Once we got out there I smiled feeling the sun against my skin.
"Feels amazing." I said to myself.
"Come on. Let's get some sun." Cassie said laying our towels down. I nodded and took my cover up off leaving me in my swimsuit. The boys started wolf whistling only making me laugh.
"You guys are dorks." I said laughing. I laid down on my towel and sighed in content feeling the sun against my skin.
"So Cameron what do you like about Nightwing?" M'gann asked making me smile.
"Besides the fact that he is gorgeous. He's funny, a good teammate, fun to be around, always ready to help, a gentleman when he wants, and he's pretty understanding and patient." I said propping myself on my elbows.
"I guess I should've asked what don't you like about Nightwing." M'gann said making us laugh. The boys were further away playing volleyball.
"Cam turn the volleyball into stone." Zatanna said. I smiled and nodded. I moved my glasses down slightly and stared at the ball. Within a few seconds it turned to stone and fell into the sand from the weight.
"Cameron turn the ball back!" Robin said. I smiled and ignored them.
"Oooh Cam they're coming over." Rocket said. I nodded and started running jumping over the girls.
"Run Cam!"
"Go Cam!"
"Run Cammy Run!"
The girls are so supportive even if I'm in way over my head. Only Bart tripped me making me fall onto my butt.
"Come on Cammy change the ball back." Nightwing said making me pout.
"Fine." I said changing the ball back. I can only change back nonorganic things. So nothing living unfortunately. I tossed them the ball good as new.
"Hey Cam. Just a random question, what color are your eyes?" Nightwing asked. The other boys just looked at me making me smile and walk away. I can't answer a question I don't even know the answer to. I don't know what color my eyes are. If I look I'll turn to stone. The same applies to me. When I got back to the girls they laughed at me.
"Forgot that Bart was a speedster for a minute here." Arty said making me nod.
"Yeah. Kinda forgot. But I was in way over my head." I said laying down on my stomach.
~Time Skip~
Me and the girls were just talking before we got soaked. The boys laughed as they threw buckets of water on us. It was freezing.
"Run." Was all Karen needed to say for the chase to happen. We eventually got the boys back with water guns. It was fun but now I'm soaked so I went back to sunbathing. The girls eventually sat back down next to me.
"I think we got them back good." Raquel said. We agreed.
"Let's cut open the watermelon." Cassie suggested.
"I've got it." I said going over to the table where the food is. I started cutting the watermelon and I saw Nightwing coming towards me. I smiled but continued cutting the watermelon.
"Need some help?" He asked.
"Actually yeah can you grab me a napkin?" I asked as the watermelon juice covered my hands and was very sticky. He gave me a napkin. I thanked him and cleaned off my hands.
"Do you maybe want to go out sometime?" He asked. I laughed a bit.
"I cant go out unless it's at night or on a mission. Having snakes as hair means I can't be seen in public." I said biting into a piece of watermelon.
"We can catch a late movie." He suggested. I thought about it.
"Ok but I'm going in my pajamas." I said. He laughed and nodded.
"If your going in your pajamas then I'm going in mine." He said making me laugh too.
"The comfier the better right?" I said. He nodded.
"How does Friday at 9 sound?" He asked.
"Let me check my schedule." I said pretending to flip through an imaginary notebook. "Looks like I'm free Friday." I said. We both smiled.
"Watch out!" Someone called before Nightwing pushed me out of the way. My reflexes saved me but my glasses fell off in the process. I saw the ocean and started running before I dove in. I opened my eyes and came face to face with a sea turtle a bit smaller than the beach ball. We locked eyes and I watched how those eyes slowly became lifeless as it turned to stone. My hands went to my mouth before going back up for air.
"Cameron come back!" Nightwing called. I can't even see right now but I could hear them. I went back under to get the sea turtle before solemnly going back to shore. Once I felt the dry sand I fell to my knees.
"I'm tired of killing things." I said. Someone put my glasses out in front of me and I quickly put them on.
"Are you ok Cammy?" Nightwing asked. I shook my head.
"No I need to go back home. To put this little guy at rest." I said getting up with the turtle in my arms.
"We'll go with you." Connor said. Sure I can say goodbye one last time.
"Sure. You guys can meet my mom." I said sadly. We all changed and left. I was in the bioship with the turtle in my suit and mask. The others dressed casually. When we got to the cave that I grew up in they were shocked to say the least. Inside the cave was old ruins. This was my home. I walked to the statue garden of the people I've killed. I used my necklace key to unlock the gate and walked in. The team slowly one by one also walked in. I started crying seeing this. Animals, women, men, children, babies. I killed them. And I can't undo any of it. I put the sea turtle down with the other animals and walked back out quickly.
"Cameron where's your mom?" M'gann asked. I nodded.
"She's over here." I said through my tears. I walked through the hall and took in the pillars and writing on the walls one last time until I came to face with my mom kneeled down looking at a stone basket with blankets and a pillow inside. Along the walls are men with guns. I moved them there.
"Wow. This is depressing." Bart said trying to lighten the mood. I wasn't in the mood to be happy.
"I don't get it where's your mom?" Garfield asked. I just stayed there standing in front of my statue of a mother. I was a baby and killed her. I knelt down a hugged her stone corpse.
"I killed my mom when I was a baby. When I was a kid I didn't understand why these statues of men with guns were surrounding my mom until more came to kill me. My mom brought me here to protect me and I killed her. All I did was look at her and she turned to stone." I said sniffling.
"Cam why does this feel like a goodbye?" Nightwing asked. I stood up and wiped my tears away.
"Because this is goodbye. I can't keep killing people." I said facing them.
"You'd never kill someone on purpose Cam." Nightwing said before giving me a hug.
"That's worse. I don't even mean to. Hey Nightwing I think I'm ready to answer your question." I said releasing him. I took out a small compact mirror from my pocket in case of emergencies. I turned around and took off my mask. I looked in the mirror and smiled seeing my eye color for the first time.
"My eyes are amber. They look like snake eyes." I said seeing a dull amber flash. I put my mask on and turned back around.
"What did you do?" Nightwing asked. I smiled.
"It was a pleasure working with you all." I said trying to keep myself from crying.
"What do you mean Cameron? What did you do?!" Nightwing asked grabbing my shoulders.
"If I looked at my own eyes I'd turn to stone." I said laughing sadly. I looked down at my feet and saw it already happening. Slow but happening.
"We-we had a date Friday Cam." Nightwing staid crying. I wiped his tears away.
"And I'm sure it would have been amazing. You can move on from this." I said seeing as the stone was slowly crawling up to me knees.
"I can't move on from the girl I love." He said making my heart break more.
"I love you too." I said before fear started to overcome me as I saw the stone work itself up to my waist.
"So I'm going to be a statue what pose should I do?" I asked to lighten the mood. Dick shook his head and hugged Robin.
"How about Canary's. She trained us." M'gann offered wiping away tears. I nodded and put my hands to my waist. As the stone made its way to my arms and face I was scared.
"It's going to be ok Cam."
That was the last thing I heard from the one I love.
