(Chae pov)
Chaeyoung looked down at the plate she created. It was absolute shit. She had tried making toast with jam but for some reason it came out looking burnt.
After picking one up, and taking a bite of it, Chae found herself breaking into a small smile. It actually tasted alright.
Looked like hell. But tasted good.
She picked up the plate filled with several other slices and carried it up to Lisa, knocking on her door.
Lisa opened it and smiled. "Toast?"
Chaeyoung nodded and entered. Lisa quickly went over to where she was working on the bed and removed her school work and bag from it.
"Sorry, let me clear away this stuff."
"Homework?"
"Yeah, I have dance tonight so I wanted to finish it before."
"Oh."
Lisa pushed the last item off and placed herself back on her bed. She reached an arm out and tugged Chae lightly down next to her.
"Your toast looks-"
"Like ass."
"Is that what one looks like?" Lisa teased.
Chaeyoung looked down and shrugged feeling her cheeks grow hot.
"I'm just messing with you." Lisa stated, cupping her cheek and bringing her head back up.
"I know." Chae said.
"Which one should I try first?"
Chaeyoung lifted one up and held it up to her mouth. Lisa smiled.
"This feels a little familiar." She smiled. Obviously thinking back to last night. Lisa then took a bite off its corner.
Her eyes lit up. "Chae, this is really good."
"Really?"
"Yes. You did great."
"It looks so bad though."
"Like looks matter, if it's good it's good." Lisa gave her a reassuring smile as she finished her slice, reaching for another.
Chaeyoung felt like she accomplished something. Making Lisa happy. Letting her enjoy something she created.
"Mhmmm." Lisa moaned.
Chaeyoung chuckled and placed a hand over her mouth to hide it.
"What?" Lisa said with a grin. "It's that good."
"That good you moan?" She laughed lightly again before resting with a smile.
"Yes." Lisa answered happily. "It may look like a train wreck, but it tastes fantastic."
"Yeah... it kind of reminded me of myself."
Lisa looked to Chaeyoung with a smirk. "Oh, you taste fantastic?" She licked her lips.
Chaeyoung blushed immediatly and smacked her arm. "Not like t-that!"
"I know Chaeyoung." Lisa teased. "You may not have looked the best, but you're an amazing person on the inside." She said sincerely.
Chaeyoung just looked at her, then to those lips she licked.
"That's what you meant right?"
"Yeah." She answered. Looking away from Lisa, afraid of the new atmosphere in the room.
That's when her eyes finally fell on the ukulele sitting on the floor. Hidden away between the wall and a seat.
"What are you smiling at?" Lisa asked her, looking towards the direction of her gaze.
"This." Chaeyoung said as she crawled across the bed and grabbed the ukulele off the floor.
Lisa's eyes immediatly brightened as she looked at what was in her hands.
"Can you play?" Chae asked.
"Oh, I used to a lot. I don't much now." She sighed with a half smile. "I've been too busy with dance, I haven't really thought about it."
"Can you play for me?"
Lisa stared for a second before nodding. "You made me a snack, it's the least I can do."
Chaeyoung handed it to her and sat crisscrossed in front of Lisa.
She was finally going to be able to hear live music again. The best type of music.
"Okay Chae, like I said, it's been ages."
"That's okay."
"I'm going to probably mess up a lot."
"That's okay."
"And I'm proba-"
Chaeyoung chuckled. "Lis." She put her hand out on the girls thigh. Lisa looked down at it then back up to her.
"Okay." She sighed.
- "เบา เบา (Bao Bao)" Singular -
Lisa began strumming. She was noticeably nervous but tried hard to focus on the notes.
Every now and then she'd stop, forgetting what she needed to play next or the chord. She'd always glance at Chae and frown.
Chaeyoung would Just give her a reassuring smile and wait for her to start again.
After several minutes, Lisa restarted the song, already playing it better.
She barely messed up and to Chaeyoung's happiness, she even started singing.
"ใจหนึ่งใจ จะต้องการอะไร
ให้มันมากมาย ให้มันวุ่นวาย
เพียงเธอนั้น ใส่ใจกันเบาเบา
พอให้สองเรา ได้ทำอะไรมากมายในตอนนี้."
("One heart, what does it need? We give it so much, we make it complicated. Only you paying a gentle attention to it. That's enough for the two of us to be able to do so many things right now.")
Chaeyoung had no idea what Lisa was saying, but she could feel the emotion in her voice. And she could feel it in the way Lisa would look at her.
Between chords, Lisa would stare at her. Their eyes meeting before she would return to watching her fingers.
When the song finished for the second time around, Lisa sat her ukulele down. She smiled shyly looking at her lap.
"Lisa, you played beautifully."
"Really?"
"Yes."
"But I messed up?"
"So?" Chaeyoung questioned. She put her hand back on Lisa's thigh and gave it a squeeze. "Your voice is really soothing."
"You think?"
"Yeah. It's like small, and cute." Chaeyoung said removing her hand. "But relaxes you."
"Thanks Chae."
Chaeyoung nodded and picked up the empty plate. "Thank you for uh, playing for me."
"Yeah... it was actually nice to play it again." Lisa smiled looking at it.
"Well, um, I'll get going."
"Would you like to play?"
Chaeyoung looked at her confused. "Oh, um..."
"I can teach you." She said sweetly. Holding the ukulele out to her.
Chae shook her head no. Not because she didn't want to play it, but because she knew she could.
(Lisa pov)
There was something in Chaeyoung's eyes.
Lisa knew Chaeyoung loved music, but she really seems passionate about it. The way she wanted her to play the ukulele for her.
It was like music could be Chaeyoung's everything, if she would just give it a chance. Lisa should teach her. She'd be good for sure.
After some practice of course.
"Are you sure Chaeyoung? It really wouldn't be bothersome. I'd love to teach you."
Chaeyoung only shook her head no again.
"Okay... well let me know if you change your mind I guess."
"Thanks Lisa."
"Always Chae."
Lisa watched as Chaeyoung left. She put her ukulele back and picked her homework and textbooks up, bringing them back to her bed.
But for some reason, she didn't want to start working on it again. Not just yet.
Lisa scooted back against her headboard and grabbed her phone. Scrolling through social media.
She checked her Instagram and saw she hadn't updated in a week. Lisa posted a selfie she took during work out yesterday.
Her hair was a mess but most her followers liked when she would post ones like this.
Lisa didn't understand the attraction, but having a following would help her chances of getting noticed by a scout.
After several minutes, Lisa swapped to YouTube. She watched a couple videos before remembering that one Chaeyoung showed her yesterday.
Lisa smiled thinking about how Chaeyoung enjoyed watching people preform and sing so much. She was so cute.
What was that school called? It was Melbourne something. Chaeyoung mentioned a middle school but it wasn't in the title.
Secondary school, that's right. Lisa thought it was a high school at first.
"Melbourne... Secondary... um.... choir...."
Lisa didn't have to type much more. YouTube auto populated the top search results. The one she needed was search two out of the top three.
She noticed the video that she watched with Chaeyoung. Clicking on it and going to the channel attached.
They still posted videos. Lisa clicked on a couple but clicked away rather quickly. They weren't that good.
That's when Lisa filtered from oldest video to newest and smiled seeing the terrible video quality. She skimmed through some thumbnails before seeing one that drew her attention.
A girl, sitting next to a grand piano.
The video had noticeably more views than the others, making Lisa smile. People must like this girl the most.
Was this the same one who played the guitar?
Lisa clicked on the video and it started with a teacher making an introduction of some sort.
"And next, a special performance by one of Melbourne Secondary's most musically inclined students. Miss Roseanne Park!"
The audience clapped like crazy again. She must really be the showstopper.
Lisa squinted as the girl approached and the camera zoomed in on her a bit. The quality was still pretty bad. Given the age.
She couldn't really see the girl's features but Lisa could tell she was young, and pretty. Really pretty.
Roseanne began her piano playing and it was incredible. Lisa couldn't even be jealous, just amazed.
It was crazy that this was the same girl from the previous video. But Lisa knew it was, given her name.
Roseanne.
Even sounded pretty.
Her signature look was definitely having her hair in a ponytail. Of course keeping her hair out of her eyes while she played.
And her voice was amazing. This Roseanne was incredibly good at changing her sound to fit whatever song she performed.
Her voice was a lot deeper than the last time. Truly proving her skill.
- "Without You" G-DRAGON feat. ROSÉ -
- Think of Rosé as "?" of new YG girl group -
"결국.. 누구의 잘못일까
사랑이란 건 없다
결국.. 이별이 지는 걸까
지쳐 나 잠이 들다
겨우.. 겨우.. 겨우..
여기까지가 마지막인지 우린
결국.. 또 결국.. 또 다시 남이 되나"
("In the end, whose fault was it? There is no such thing as love. In the end, is breaking up, losing?
I'm tired and I fall asleep. Barely, barely, barely, is this point barely our last? In the end, in the end, are we becoming strangers again?")
Lisa's mouth was parted a bit as she listened to the words of the song and the way Roseanne sang it.
There was no doubt in Lisa's mind, this girl had to be one of the best singers she's heard in a long time. Amongst non celebrities.
And Chaeyoung.
Maybe Roseanne was a singer now? With a voice like that, she'd have to be.
Lisa ended up watching an hours worth of their videos, most of them consisting of Roseanne, before she noticed the time and went back to her homework.
Not too long after returning to it, there was a knock on her door.
"Hey honey." Ami said while entering.
"Oh hi momma. How was work?"
"It was good. How was your day?"
"It was good."
"And Chaeyoung?"
"She's amazing."
"She's amazing?" Ami smirked.
"I mean she's feeling amazing... I think? The day seemed really good after this morning." Nice save Lisa.
"What happened this morning?" Ami asked, slightly worried.
"Nothing bad. Honestly it was really nothing. I just felt like she was off."
"Hm I wonder why she would be?"
"I'm not sure, but she went back to being herself not too long after first began."
"Well that's good." She said relieved. "I'm glad you two have gotten closer."
"We have?" Lisa questioned. She knew they had but wanted to hear what her mom had to say.
"Of course you have. She's talking way more now because of you. And you both hang out a lot and get into each others personal spaces." Ami did a little wiggle of her shoulders.
"Personal spaces?"
"Oh Lisa, you know what I'm talking about." Ami winked. "Now get ready for dance. Knock your socks off."
Lisa watched as her mom left. Suddenly, something just clicked.
Her mom knows.
She knows everything.
