Georgia's POV

What I fail to do in my day-to-day life is take things less seriously. I always think about the future and whether the guy I know I have feelings for will ever reciprocate my feelings or whether I'll ever amount to anything. These things—these vague dreams and thoughts of mine cause my stomach to churn and my eyes to fill with water droplets. I want to live life for now, not waste my thoughts on the future. For who knows whether i'll even be alive for the moments I dream about.

I was definitely a pessimist. Anyone who knew me extremely well would know that. I torture myself thinking about the little things and spinning them out of control. Imagining the worst possible outcome was something I couldn't control.

The day ahead for example. It was a windy day in Melbourne and I was getting ready in my bathroom to head out soon. I was going to have lunch with Patrick and then I was going to drive him to his game at Marvel stadium. Carlton versus the Western Bulldogs. It was going to be an interesting game. Our good friend Marcus was also playing which really conflicted my emotions. Whenever they played against each other, I tried my best to stay neutral.

I'd be lying if I said I wasn't nervous. Pat's girlfriend Lily was going to be there. I already knew she would take a swing a me. Try to bring me down and push me further away from Pat. It has always been her end goal to end our friendship.

I got myself ready for the day by getting dressed into some comfortable clothes. I was more of a comfy kinda girl rather than a fancy dress girl. As I got myself ready, I mentally prepared myself for what I was going to be put through. And by that, I meant Pat's girlfriend Lily. She despised me for a reason I am yet to figure out. I was pretty certain she only hated me because I was friends with Pat and he trusted me more than her. But in my opinion, that's no reason to hate someone. She's just very good and being a bitch and Pat knows it. He's just so damn attached to her it's unbelievable. I guess everyone is always attached to their first love though. I just didn't want to put up with her bullshit. I was going to support Pat, I was done with her drama.

My roommates Natasha and Grace were out at work so I locked up the house preparing to be out for a while. I put my dog Billie outside and locked the glass screen door. She stared back at me with her puppy dog eyes. It always tempted me to bring her but she couldn't come this time. I walked out the front of the house and got in my black Hyundai. I reversed out of the drive way and began driving to Pat's house. I listened to the radio as I was on my way to Pat's house. They were talking about the game at Marvel and what it meant for both teams. I was feeling excited to watch Pat okay because I hadn't watched him in a while. And Carlton was rapidly improving. That meant the crowds got bigger and bigger every week.

I was picking Pat up so he didn't have to drive back after the game. He usually carpooled with some of his teammates, but since I was going, I offered to take him. It was a 5 minute drive to Pat's house so it didn't take long at all. When I got there I pulled into his drive way carefully minding his neat garden. I beeped the car horn to usher him out of the house. He came out 30 seconds later dressed in his Carlton merchandise and holding his duffel bag with his game equipment. He gave me a quick smile as he walked over to the car. He opened the car door and climbed in with a sour look on his face. He looked exhausted and he hadn't even played yet. He threw his bag in the back and sighed deeply as he shut the car door. I looked at him with confusion. He wasn't usually this out of it when I hung out with him.

"Hey Pat" I said to him, trying to encourage some conversation between us.

"Hey George" he replied as he leaned over the car and gave me a hug.

"You alright?" I asked him attempting to find out why he was acting so distant.

"Yeah, yeah I'm fine. I've just been so busy lately that I have no time for you and for Lily. And she is definitely not happy about it" he told me. I pulled out of his drive way and began driving our favourite restaurant in the city.

"Ahhh right, how is the devil?" I asked him sarcastically. He knew I didn't like her. I made it that obvious it was hard for him not to pick up on.

"Driving me mental" he answered.

"Really? What has she done now?" I said acting surprised. I wasn't surprised that she was pissing him off. He always came to me with his relationship issues so I was used to it. Hearing everything from Pat about Lily also have me an impression of her that I didn't already have.

"She is being so clingy. She has to know where I am every second of everyday. It's like I've got no independence anymore" he told me.

"That's expected from her not gonna lie. But what exactly are you going to do about it?" I asked him.

"I don't know. Like I really don't know. We have so much history I don't want to end our relationship" he explained.

"It's up to you my friend" I said as I arrived at the restaurant. I parked across the road from it and jumped out of my car. Pat and I walked alongside each other into the restaurant. We got a table on the outside deck. The waitress came over quite quickly and we ordered our lunch.

"Ready for the game?" I asked him.

"Yep, I think we've got this one in the bag" he said confidently.

"Really?" I said surprised at his answer.

"Yeah for suuurrreeee" he said with a grin.

"We'll see" I said with a giggle.

"How's Parish?" He asked looking off into the distance. He wanted to ask to be polite, but he definitely didn't want to hear the answer. Any mention of my boyfriend, and Pat drifted off.

"Distant" I told him.

"What's he doing" he asked.

"Just texting all the time, not responding when I ask him something. You know stuff like that, that isn't what I want" I told him.

"I definitely know that. But anytime I tell you, you don't wanna hear it" He told me.

"Cause he was my first love. Just like you and Lily. It's not easy, you should understand that" I told him. He looked sort of sad when I said that. His head dropped and he was twiddling his thumbs. He then looked up at me.

"Was. He was your first love George" he said which caught me by surprise. He was my first love. I didn't even pick up that I used passed tense.

"Ugghhh, you're right. I don't know what to do" I said and then I put my head in my hands. He stood up of his chair and came around to the chair next to me. He wrapped his arm around me so I rested my head on his shoulder.

"Don't worry about it too much George. I know you'll work it out. You are that smart it's not funny" he said.

"Thanks Pat" I said to him and pulled him into a hug.

"No problem George, you know you can talk to me whenever" he told me, I nodded agreeing with him.

Pat and I then ate our lunch and then we decided to go to the game early. We both got in the car and drove 7 minutes to Marvel. I parked in the player car parking spots and we both jumped out. We walked down to the rooms and we were some of the first to arrive. Pat put his bag down and grabbed a footy. Since no one else was here, he started doing some handball practice with me. Then Zac Fisher and Sam Petrevski-Seton walked in the door. I knew them through Pat, not that well but they were really nice guys. They chucked their bags down and came over to us.

"Hey Crippa" they said as they shook Pat's hand.

"You guys know Georgia right?" Pat asked them.

"What happened to Lily?" Zac asked. I nearly choked on my siliva. Funniest thing I had heard all day.

"We're not together" I said pointing to both of us.

"I'm still with Lily mate" Pat told them.

"Oh-Uh sorry guys" Zac said rubbing the back of his neck. They then walked off and got their warm up gear on. I felt bad for Zac. Who was he to know. It was a common mistake. Whenever people saw how close Pat and I were, they always assumed we were a couple.

10 minutes later. I was still down in the rooms. I was waiting with Pat and the other guys while they were doing their warm ups. I was talking to Jack Silvagni and Paddy Dow. They then had to go out for their warm ups on the ground so I made my way back over to Pat.

"Hey" I said as I stood by him while he stretched.

"You going up soon?" he said referring to the seats in the stands.

"Yep" I replied. Pat and I continued talking when I saw the one and only Lily Marshall walk through the door. She strutted her way in as usual and came over to us.

"Hey babe" she said as she turned Pat's head to her and placed a long sloppy his on his lips. They then broke away from the kiss and she looked at me devilishly. Pat looked uncomfortable and kind of stunned at what she had just done to him. He wiped his lips and looked at me pleading for me to be mature towards her. I ignored the temptation to be as much of a bitch as she would be to me. I decided to be civil for Pat's sake.

"Georgia, how nice to see you" she said in a bitchy tone.

"Lily" I said rolling my eyes discretely.

"Ready for your game babe?" She asked turning her attention back towards Pat.

"Yep, just gotta put my jumper on" he told her. "Why don't you two go find your seats?" He said.

"Sure thing, we'll see you after the game" I said as I gave him a hug. "Good luck" I said as I pulled away.

"Thanks George" he replied.

"Have fun babe, I know you'll do great" Lily said.

"Thanks babe" he said as he kissed her lips. I watched them as they kissed again. It made my heart ache watching him kiss her like that. I know I had a boyfriend, but having a guy best friend always led to feelings that I couldn't deny.

They pulled away and we said goodbye to Pat. We walked up to the 1st floor where we were sitting. I was meeting Tash and Grace at our seats. There was no way I was going to last sitting next to Lily for a whole game. Lily said a quick goodbye to me and went to meet her equally bitchy friends. I made my way to my seat and saw my 2 other best friends sitting in theirs.

"Hey guys" I said as they stood up and both gave me a hug.

"Hey George" Tash said.

"How are you" Grace asked.

"I'm good, How are you guys" I said to them.

"We're good. Haven't seen you in a few days" Grace said. I know what your thinking. You live together, you should see each other all the time. They've both been with their boyfriends a lot and I am not with mine so I haven't really seen them.

I sat back in my seat as the siren rang through the most famous Melbourne stadium. I watched Pat as he nudged another player outside the centre circle. The ball bounced and the game begun with Pat having the first possession of the game.
