As Y/N begins getting herself ready to leave the university library (her dorm roommate had her boyfriend over and she needed to study for a mini BioChem test the next day), she notices a wallet on the table opposite hers.
She only finds it now, as she walks over to it, she realises that it's in good condition.
Someone must've forgotten it here, she knows it's rude but she searches through it.
She hope no one thinks wrongly of her as she goes through old receipts, cards and loads of cash.
This person is loaded, but she tries not to look at any of it, it feels terribly tempting and that just isn't the right thing to do, despite her many bad but relatable habits.
She finds a fortune cookie note as well as... A condom in one of the slots...
Yikes.
Thankfully, before she finds anything else unsettling, she finds an ID with a phone number on it.
She decided to message it, hoping it's the right person this wallet belongs to.

But then she reads what's on the paper.

Y/N feels her stomach sink and her posture deflates as she stands up again, slumping with what seems like the inevitable conclusion that she has played.
He's just another jerk.

I'm just gonna leave your
wallet at the front desk.
She spins around, ready to leave the wallet and go home, perhaps block the number and forgot all this happened.
Until someone grabs her arm and turns her back.
Namjoon.
He looks just as good as he does in his ID, with his eyes moving from the wallet in Y/N's hands to her face.
"Was it something I said?"
She swallows heavily as he looks into her eyes, trying to find the words to respond to him.
"I, uh..."
He glances again at the wallet, where they both realise that the supposed girlfriend's note is sticking out.
She shoves the wallet at him and he takes it, confused.
Then he looks at the note, recognising it immediately.
"Congrats, you almost fooled me."
She takes a step back, ready to leave him.
"I'm guessing you obviously read this."
He almost sighed out, getting Y/N in her nerves.
"Not on purpose, it fell out and-"
Namjoon puts his hands on her arm again.
"Wait, can we just talk?"
"Why? You've obviously got a girl waiting for you at home."
She shrugs him off.
"Y/N..."
"Save it Namjoon. It's clear that you do take chances... on unsuspecting girls."
Y/N turns and starts to walk away.
Namjoon steps in front of her, halting her movement determinedly.
"I do have someone waiting for me."
"I know, I can read yanno."
Her tone is sarcastically harsh, making the atmosphere almost hostile but Namjoon doesn't dig himself a deeper grave.
"-at my parents' home. The note is from my mother..."
He says calmly, Y/N feels her lips uncontrollably lifting into a grin.
Then, a giggle bubbles up her throat, making her cover her mouth.
"Hey, don't laugh! Me and my mom are really close."
"I can tell, it's cute don't worry. And this explains the unused condom."
She teases again, making Namjoon sigh with a hint of amusement.
"Not really but it explains the fortune. I'm not afraid to take chances because I'll always have someone to love and support me unconditionally. This note reminds me of that, which is why I keep it. And today, I see an opportunity to take a chance on you. On us. And I'm... hoping you'll take it too?"
He scratches the back of his neck, eyes looking down at his feet, waiting for Y/N's reaction.
She has a chance, right here and right now.
Excitement courses through her veins as she gives Namjoon another smile, but this one is soft and warm.
He returns it, making butterflies zoom inside her stomach.
I suppose fortunes do come true sometimes.
