It was Jaeju's birthday today.
She's spent it with her family, relatives and close friends.
And of course university which she seemed to love for some reason.
It had been a tiring day for her with all the fun so as she fell flat onto her fluffy bed in the late night at her apartment, one thing was on her mind.
'Taehyung couldn't visit me... Again.'
Taehyung was her boyfriend for a good few years now.
Although they were the best couple in the world (as said by her fangirling friends), they didn't come without their own problems.
One was that Taehyung was an extremely busy music artist.
His work always kept him away from Jaeju and it wasn't like he could waltz up to her without drumming up unneeded attention.
Another was that he always seemed to miss important dates.
He couldn't spend New Years with her and even had to miss Valentine's Day.
Jaeju had her friends with her that day so she wasn't lonely but there had been sorrow building up in the pit of her stomach which coiled up whenever she thought of Taehyung's warm smile, soft cuddles and his sweet words.
All she wanted was to hear her boyfriend's voice caress her into jelly, and as cringy as it sounds, that's how she felt when she was with him.
In short, she was lovesick.
And now, she couldn't even be bothered to wipe off her beautiful makeup or get changed into comfy sleepwear.
She figured she could do with a glass of hot milk to help her feel better.
She began to walk out of her bedroom before hearing her front door open with a click.
No one had the keys to her apartment other than herself, her sister or... Taehyung.
But there was no way it could be Taehyung in her mind.
And why would her sister come by when they had already seen each other today?
Her heart thumping loudly against her chest, she quietly stepped down the stairs.
Horror sunk in as thoughts of a burglar or murderer getting in circled in her mind.
She gulped silently at the darkness, she hadn't even thought to turn on the lights when she entered her apartment earlier.
Whispers of a masculine voice caught her attention, she was freaking out inside.
She stood in the living room doorway, the switch was near her and she could on it easily.
But, being stupid Jaeju, she thought she could use an element of horror.
"Whoever you are... I am going to haunt you forever if you don't leave this house!" She said in a ghoulish tone.
Footsteps came towards her and she shrieked as she was grabbed and lifted upwards.
"SOMEBODY HEL-"
Deep laughter rang throughout the living room and she immediately understood.
"T-tae...?"
The switch was turned and the lights came on.
She was being carried, bridal style, by no one other than her beloved boyfriend.
"Oh my- THAT WAS NOT FUNNY!!!"
She shouted and Taehyung kept laughing.
"Mianhae jagiya but why would you act like a ghost if you were potentially getting robbed?"
Taehyung let her down gently and Jaeju gave him a glare.
"...I'm tired okayyyyyy." She whined childishly, making Taehyung chuckle.
He pulled her towards the couches.
"Just a few minutes, alright?"
Jaeju nodded uncertainly, before shock finally reached her.
"Hang on- what are you doing here?"
They both sat down and Taehyung wrapped his arms around her.
"To say I'm sorry for missing New Years and Valentine's Day, and of course to wish my perfect jagiya Happy Birthday."
Jaeju smiled instinctively and hugged him back.
"It's okay... I missed you."
Taehyung pecked her cheek.
"I missed you too Jae."
He quickly got out a small box from a bag, which she hadn't noticed was there, on the coffee table.
"Close your eyes."
She did with a frown.
"If you scare me again, you're gonna get beat Tae."
She heard his laugh again, something that she missed dearly.
Ruffling and jangling, what was Taehyung doing?
Jaeju's breath audibly hitched as she felt his slender fingers graze her neck.
"Oh, missed my touch did you?"
She heard him ask mischievously.
"Shut up Tae." She knew right away that he had a smirk on his face.
She felt her hair being lifted up and something cold rest around her neck.
"Open up jagi."
She opened her eyes, looking down at a glittering sliver necklace.
It had her name in cursive dangling down and she felt tears prick at her eyes with joy.
"Tae... Thank you so much."
She wrapped her arms around his waist in happiness.
"I love you jagiya."
He said, stroking her hair gently.
"I love you too."
She heard him sing softly after a bit:
"Saeng-il chukahamnida~
Saeng-il chukahamnida~
Saranghaneun Kim Jaeju~
Saeng-il chukahamnida~"
He sung gleefully and she gave him a wide smile.
"Wait... Kim Jaeju?" She said teasingly but she had no idea that Taehyung wasn't joking.
"Ah that's right, I should probably do this as well."
He got out another box from the bag and got off the couch and went down on one knee.
He opened the expensive looking box to reveal a beautiful diamond ring inside.
"I know I don't deserve you but I love you so much that I have to take this chance. Will you marry me Jaeju?"
He looked deeply into Jaeju's tear-filled eyes and gave a small smile.
"Yes! Yes you big dummy!" She replied ecstatically.
She threw her arms around his neck once again and she could hear him chuckle and sniffle.
He drew back to slip the ring onto her finger and Jaeju had to hold back the tears threatening to spill.
He cupped her cheek in one hand and moved to kiss her softly but passionately.
Jaeju was then certain that today was the best birthday ever.
"Hm it's late, let's go to sleep jagiya."
She nodded, still a little dazed by the event that just happened.
"Wait, you brought clothes right?"
He laughed at her question, nodding.
"Why? Are you not ready for me to sleep with you any other way?"
He asked playfully but darkly.
"I-it's too late for you to be so rude!"
She blushed furiously as he laughed again.
She would never to be used to her fiancée's teasing, even after many years to come...
