Chapter 80: Nia 🐰
Hours passed since the group had traveled out of the village. After the tree incident, they continued onto their destination until the sun went down and the moon and stars took its place instead.
Yamato, using his wood, constructed a building where everyone was provided with shelter. There were a few rooms as he figured the teens would like a lot of space as he did as well.
Currently, in a medium-sized room, Nia and Hinata were having some time away from the boys as they were getting into a dramatic argument about their skills as a ninja.
It was quiet there, with hardly anything but the crackle of the fire in the middle of the room with a the sound of bubbles from a cooking stew to break the almost dead silence.
"Here you go," Nia grabbed a bowl from her clean bag and poured some of the stew she made then handed it over to her new friend, "I hope you like it."
"T-Thank you." The Hyuga reached for the bowl.
"Oh, be careful. It's pretty hot. You may want it to cool off for a bit."
"All right."
Nia grabbed another bowl and poured some stew in there for herself as well then carefully placed it on the floor as she waited for it to become cool.
Her eyes studied Hinata's expression as she seemed to be deep in thought.
"Is something wrong?" She asked, "You have a long face right now."
"Oh... it's nothing."
Nia didn't believe her, "Hey, um... I know we don't really know each other to well, but if you wanna talk, I'll listen. I'm not one to judge harshly."
Hinata only softly clenched her pants as she was sitting with her knees on the floor. Seeing this, Nia quickly apologized.
"Oh, my bad. You don't have to tell me anything if you don't want to. I'll understand."
"I... was thinking of someone special..." The Hyuga girl decided to open up.
"Hm?" Nia was surprised to hear her tell her what's going on, "Someone special?"
Hinata nodded, "Yes... someone... very special."
"Oh... would you like to talk about them?"
"Um..."
Nia waited for the girl to speak.
"Can I... ask you something?" Hinata did talk.
"Of course."
"How can I put this in a way you can understand...?" The kunoichi said to herself before getting her question together and asking, "Let's say you like someone, but you're too shy to speak with them yet you love them— What would you do if you were to suspect they love someone else or are already taken?"
"So you love someone you're too shy to talk to and you believe they may be in love with someone else or are already taken..." Nia clarified as Hinata nodded.
The girl then lowered her eyes as she was reminded of her past. A very wounding one.
"Would you like my honest opinion? No matter how good or bad?"
"Yes!"
"I see..." Nia then looked the girl in the eye, "In my opinion... based on being in the exact same position as you when I was younger... I'd say... get over the guy you like as quickly as possible."
"Huh?"
"I know... it's something you don't wanna hear, but for real... if you can't speak to your crush, or like, find the courage to ever do so, its best to let the guy go and find someone whom you actually find it rather easy to speak with."
"Why do you say that?"
"Because..." Nia grabbed her bowl and placed it on her lap, "I've... been through that exact same experience you're going through. I know what it's like to be extremely shy and be unable to speak to the boy I like cause I would feel intimidated by them and go weak in the knees, feel my heart race, or feel butterflies in my stomach whenever I would see them."
Hinata continued to listen.
"Honestly, it's just not worth it if you don't have the courage to speak with the guy on a regular basis. From what I've experienced, you're just going to get hurt. The reason being because a guy is not just gonna be sitting around, waiting for you to quit mumbling or getting tongue-tied and extremely awkward when he's trying to talk to you himself. Now if the guy you like is shy also, just step away—it's not going to happen unless one of you gathers the courage to break the ice. You could have a chance if he's outgoing, but like I said, he can probably only handle so much shyness before he gets annoyed with it most likely."
"The guy I like is not shy at all. He's very social." The Hyuga girl informed her friend.
Nia breathed a sigh of relief, "Oh, thank god. You have hope then. However, you could still be the problem if you can't stop being so flustered and too nervous if he talks to you. Wait... he does say something to you, does he? Or is this one of those cases where he literally doesn't even know you exist?"
"He says some things to me once in a while, but... I usually just end up stuttering my words very badly, get all fidgety, or faint even..."
"Ohhh," Nia was surprised to hear, "That's... bad, Hinata."
"I-It is?" The girl was concerned as Nia nodded.
"Yessss. You need to be able to atleast be conscious in order to speak with the guy you like... I've been extremely shy too, but... it wasn't to a point where I would pass out if they were to talk to me. I mean, I'd get dizzy and fidget almost as if I would go into a seizure, but I'd never fainted."
"So... what should I do?"
"First, you gotta make sure he doesn't have a girlfriend. Believe it or not, a lot of guys will try to hide the fact that they have a girlfriend so that the girl they want to cheat with won't be likely to reject their advances. They try to keep two girls or maybe even more sometimes at a time, it's completely ridiculous. So if you don't feel comfortable asking your crush straight to his face about that, ask his friends. But be careful, sometimes they can be really messed up too and try to cover for the guy."
"Really?"
Nia nodded, "Yep, I've been through those lies before. I know what I'm talking about unfortunately."
"If he does have a girlfriend, what... should I do about my feelings? I'm... in love with him."
"Hinata..." The girl in glasses sighed a bit, "You said you can barely talk to this guy right and that you're not very close to him at all?"
"That's right..."
"If that's the case... don't you... sorta think you're actually not in love with the guy at all?"
"That's not true! I... I love him with all my heart, Nia!" The Hyuga girl got a bit defensive.
She then realized her sudden aggressiveness and apologized.
"I-I'm sorry, I didn't... I didn't mean to raise my voice like that."
"Don't worry about it, I understand." Nia accepted the apology, "I got mad too when someone told me that I wasn't really in love with a boy I didn't really know when I was sure I loved him."
"Hm?" The purple-haired girl became intrigued.
"There... was a time, no, a couple times where I thought I was in love with somebody I barely knew or barely talked to. I was an idiot for it but I convinced myself I was in love anyway. I figured that I didn't have to talk to someone on a regular basis to be in love with them. I thought that watching them from a safe distance and watching and listening to how they reacted to the environment and those around them would give me a good enough reason to believe I was in love with them when I really wasn't."
Nia placed some food in her mouth then swallowed it.
"What I'm trying to say is, you can't go around saying or thinking you're in love with someone when you don't even have a special relationship with them to begin with. Their has to be communication, development, trust, and a whole lotta other things before you can truly be or at least consider yourself to be in love. Love takes time also... you can't just hope this guy you like falls asleep one day, has a dream about you, wakes up then realizes he loves you without you two having proper development beforehand. That's not how love works... that's just a whole bunch of baloney fairy tale crap."
"But..."
Nia sighed, "Hinata... you don't have to listen to me. I'm just giving my honest opinion from the heart. You can choose to keep putting in no effort to form a bond with this guy, choose to actually talk to him and get a relationship going, or you can just drop your feelings entirely. I'm not forcing you to take one certain action. It's all up to you."
"Which of those three would you recommend for me to do?" Hinata replied with a stern expression.
"It depends whether or not he has a girlfriend. If he has a girlfriend, drop him. If he doesn't, shoot... go try and get the guy, girl. Besides, you're pretty and look like you're in great shape, getting your crush should be a breeze for you. If I looked like you, I would never hesitate to speak to the guy I like. There's no way he could reject you. Guys care way too much about looks so you're obviously guaranteed a mate no matter what."
And somehow... I can't help but feel jealous of you. I'm surprised Naruto liked Sakura instead of you back when he first told me who he liked. I mean, you're so freaking lucky to be so gorgeous...
"I'll do my best then." Hinata felt a glimmer of hope as she finished listening to Nia's advice.
I'm just overreacting. Nia doesn't have a thing with Naruto. They're not a couple... they're just extremely close is all.
Taking a few more minutes to finish their food and to talk about a few other fun things, Nia then offered to wash Hinata's plate for her as she also took the time to take out a few more bowls and poured stew into them for the boys to eat as well.
"I'll be right back. I'm gonna go get everyone else, okay?"
"Yes. Thanks for making us all dinner. We really appreciate it." Hinata gave her gratitude and politely bowed her head for a moment.
"Oh uh, no problem. I'm glad you liked it." Nia was flattered as she then left the room and went into the next one to find the boys playing a card game.
"Ha! I win again!" Kiba declared as he had won a game of poker.
"Man..." Naruto pouted as he dropped his head in defeat, "I should've folded."
"Same." Shino agreed.
"Me three," Yamato sighed, "And I thought I was a natural at this game."
The four then heard a gentle knock on the door and turned to find Nia right at the entrance of the room.
'Ugh! It's her again...' Kiba rolled his eyes.
"Curly Brow!" Naruto threw his cards down and grinned, "What's sup?"
"I... just came in here to let you all know the stew is finished. I cooked it the best I could for you all. I don't want any of us to go to bed with an empty stomach or anything." The girl responded a bit quietly as everyone began to stand up and walk towards the door.
"Oh man! Thanks a ton, Curly Brow! I was really hungry, ya know." Naruto gave a quick kiss to the girl before walking out the door.
"Yes, we really appreciate it." Yamato gave his gratitude then walked off.
Shino only gave a nod while Kiba and Akamaru were the last to leave.
"Well, it's about time. You took long enough." He bumped into Nia a bit roughly as he exited out of the room.
Immediately, Nia's blood boiled as she curled her fists and attempted to take deep calming breaths.
'Just calm down Nia, just calm down.' She told herself, 'Body slam his ass later. Now is not the time. The mission comes first.'
She then suddenly remembered something and raced outside.
Oh crap, I forgot Naruto's jacket is still on the clothesline outside! Has it dried yet?!
Minutes later, she returned to find everyone except for Naruto eating in the room her and Hinata were in previously.
"Umm... do you guys know where Naruto went?" She asked as everyone but Kiba looked at her.
"Oh that's right," Yamato responded almost immediately, "After Naruto finished eating, he went off to another room. He said that he needed to discuss something important with you regarding the mission and is waiting for you to meet him there."
"Uhh okay... which room?"
"Go down the hall, make a right, and it's the door all the way down from there."
"Okay, thanks." Nia then went outside the room and went where Yamato had told her to go.
She was a bit nervous as she approached her destination but took a deep breath in to ease her nerves.
"Naruto, you in there?" She called softly as she knocked on the door in the room he was supposedly in.
"Yeah. Come in." He replied quickly as the girl opened the door and walked in slowly.
"Yamato said you wanted to talk to me about something?" She approached the boy as he sat with his back against the wall while a window was right above his head and there were candles lit on each corner of the room with large futon in the center of it.
"Yeah sorta," He answered, "But not in the way you think. I just want to catch up with you seeing as we haven't seen one another in almost a week, ya know?"
His eyes then glanced at his jacket that was hanging over the girl's forearm.
"Oh," Nia noticed this and handed over his item, "I washed this for you using the washboard and stream that was near here then placed it on a clothesline outside and had it air dry."
"Awesome. I really appreciate that." He thanked her and took back his jacket then threw it over his shirt.
"Yep. I just figured that I'd clean it for you since it had gotten very dirty from when you fell the way you did after smacking into that tree earlier. Speaking of which, how are you feeling?"
Nia kneeled down in front of the boy and looked for any marks or injuries on his face.
"I'm fine." He answered.
Nia then replied, "We've been on our feet all day so I'm a bit worried if yours is even the slightest bit sore. Would you like me to message them for you? If not, would you like me to message your shoulders or maybe even rub your back instead?"
"No, that's okay."
"Would you like me to scratch anything? Your back? Your arms? Your legs?"
"Don't worry about it." Naruto declined once more.
"Would you like me to do anything at all?"
The boy smiled a bit as he also sweat dropped, "Curly Brow, how about you? Compared to what you've been doing for me, I've done nothing. Would you like me to do anything for you?"
"N-No," The girl answered, "You don't have to do anything for me."
The blonde patted the ground as Nia took a seat to his right, "Here, why don't you sit here next to me?"
As she did so, he just stared at her from the corner of his eye as a soft smile appeared on his face. Noticing this, Nia blushed and averted her eyes awkwardly.
'He's doing it again...' She thought to herself as she was too shy to keep eye contact with the blonde, 'He's staring...'
"Curly Brow?"
"Hm?"
"The whole time we were apart, I was thinking of you, ya know?" The ninja admitted, "I couldn't get my mind off you. I was worried because you were so upset about that whole genjutsu thing..."
"WAIT!" Nia suddenly had an epiphany, "When Jiraiya-sensei said he watched what happened in the illusion, did he watch EVERYTHING? LIKE EVERY SINGLE DETAIIILLL?!"
"Erm... I think he said he skipped a part. Said it would be weird for him to watch since he's a grown man or something along those lines whatever the heck that meant."
Nia breathed a sigh of relief.
Oh thank goodness... that'd be awkward if he would've actually saw the whole banging part...
"Curly Brow?" The blonde then called again as Nia looked at him.
"?"
"Erm... thank you..." He told her as she raised an eyebrow.
"For what? I didn't do anything."
"For being kind to my friends..."
"Oh..." Nia blinked, "You're welcome."
She then brought her knees to her chest and wrapped her arms around them as she touched her chin against it as well.
Meanwhile, Naruto rubbed the back of his head, "About Kiba..."
"It's fine," Nia interrupted, "I know he doesn't like me because of how I look. Don't apologize..."
The genin didn't say anything as he just glanced at the girl.
"I'm... trying hard to be on good terms with everyone," The kunoichi said softly as she looked down a bit, "I know that I'm a lot different from normal people, but I know how much these friends of yours mean to you so I'm trying my best to be accepted by them and to treat them well even if it hurts me to do so when I know they think I'm not good enough or deserving of you solely due to my appearance... I'm doing this all for your sake. For our sake."
The genin frowned, "Curly Brow, Kiba is just being a jerk. Besides, even if everyone pressured me to leave you because they don't think you're pretty enough, I would never do it. I don't care if they think I'm crazy for being with you, I think people are really dumb for not wanting to be with you."
"What?" Nia was surprised to hear this.
Naruto placed his hand hand atop of hers and squeezed it.
"I'm not going anywhere and I'll never be or feel ashamed of being with you. I'll never try to hide you and my feelings for you from the public eye either! I need you by my side; I want you by my side! I love you, Curly Brow and so I won't abandon or betray you over something so ridiculous, ya know!"
This seemed to put a large smile on the girl's face, "I know... thanks a ton, Naruto."
She then leaned a bit onto him and placed her head on his shoulder, "This is why you're are my hero... so kind... I love you."
Ba-bump Ba-bump Ba-bump
Naruto's face flushed red as he heard her call him her hero once again after so long. The sound of his heart beating was loud enough for him to hear and fast enough to make himself feel as though he would melt. He payed his head atop of Nia's as his lips curved slightly upwards upon feeling the warmth between them.
Man... hearing her say that will never get old... I'm so awesome...
His eyes then scanned the room until it had landed on his backpack a few feet in front of him. When he remembered what he had in there for this night, he thrashed about and desperately grabbed ahold of his bag.
"OH MAN! I ALMOST FORGOT!" He practically screamed as he unzipped the backpack.
Startled over how he was acting, Nia only panicked, "Naruto, what's wrong?!"
"I totally forgot I bought you something a couple days ago! I've been waiting all this time to let you try on my present!"
"You bought me a present?" The girl blushed heavily as she was flattered the blonde would do such a thing.
"Yes! It's the most amazing thing! I saw it in a magazine and I just KNEW I had to get it for you! It cost me a lot of ryo to buy this so I hope you'll love it just as much as I do, ya know!" He eagerly then grabbed out a few things with a large grin plastered on his face.
Upon seeing what it was, Nia's soul nearly came out of her mouth. She turned to stone.
"..."
Naruto didn't seem to care as a rosy red blush spread from one cheek, across the bridge of his nose, and finally onto the other cheek as he then made a perverted giggle.
With a squirmy and nervous smile, he glanced over to Nia as he held up his present to her.
"Errrm..." He awkwardly stumbled on his words, "I was hoping... you know... ahehe..."
Instantaneously, starting from the toes until it reached her forehead, Nia's entire skin went red until she nearly collapsed when steam poured out from her skin.
"W-Whatcha... got there... Na-Naruto?" She tried not to get dizzy as she gawked at his present.
"C'mon Curly Brow, doesn't it look obvious?" He kept ahold of the gift in front of the girl's face, "Isn't this amazing? The photo in the magazine was so-"
"WHAT KIND OF MAGAZINE WAS YOU READING WHILE I WAS GONE, NARUTO?!" The girl flipped out.
Naruto only made a face.
"Don't give me that look!" Nia became upset, "Were you looking at a porno magazine while I was away?!"
"Err..." He only became nervous and looked away from her.
This seemed to hurt the girl.
"You can't even go for five days? What would happen if I couldn't see you for a week... or a month?"
"Hold on Curly Brow, you got the wrong idea!" The boy panicked and grabbed ahold of the kunoichi's hands, "Pervy Sage was the one who showed me the photo in his magazine! He said that if I handed him the money, he could buy the outfit in the adult store the girl in the magazine was wearing for me, ya know? I was thinking about you the entire time!"
Nia wasn't too upset but was a little displeased at the thought of the guy possibly having magazines to jerk off to when she wasn't around. However, she knew he wasn't the type to do something that could potentially hurt her.

Shino had placed his hand over the boy's mouth, "How many times are we going to keep going over this, Kiba? Just keep quiet."
Yamato sighed.
Oh brother... we're not going to get anywhere. If this mission is to stand any chance of being a success, Kiba needs to either accept Nia or be mature and respectful enough to listen to her orders for this one mission...
"Where are they anyway?" Shino asked as he was watching a bug crawl on his index finger.
"Naruto said something about wanting to discuss the mission privately with Nia and took off with her to another room." Yamato answered.
"But... hasn't it been over twenty minutes, Captain Yamato?" Hinata questioned as she then swallowed down her food.
"Ugh, I'll just go get those two!" Kiba stood up.
Quickly, Yamato did the same and grabbed the boy's wrist, "I don't think so. You're coming with me outside. We need to have a serious talk."
"Are you serious, Captain? We can't do this later or something?"
"Hinata! Shino! Get some rest. You're going to be needing your energy for tomorrow." Yamato ordered as he, Kiba, and Akamaru went outside.
When they did, the man leaned against the wooden building while Kiba and Akamaru was standing opposite of him.
"I wasn't joking when I said you need to stop this ridiculous anger you have for Naruto and this very annoying disgust you have for Nia," Yamato started, "It's obvious you wanna break the two up, but you need to realize that what you're doing is wrong."
"But that's the thing! I'm not! Naruto shouldn't be with a girl that ugly! He can do so much better than her and I'm trying to help him see that. I can't stand seeing him with her! There's someone waaaaay better than her who already likes him! I'm trying to get him to either cheat or break up with Nia so he could be with Hinata!"
"Hinata likes Naruto, huh?"
"Yes!" Kiba nodded, "She needs to be with him! She's much better looking than Nia!"
"I could be wrong, but Hinata... I don't believe I ever saw Naruto and her interacting before..." Yamato crossed his arms.
The Inuzuka sighed, "She's just shy and like... scared of him or something... but, I'm trying to help those two get together. Naruto is being so naive. I just know he'd drop Nia if I were to tell him Hinata likes him instead."

"That won't work. Like I've said before, Naruto would never betray someone he loves like that. It's not in his nature. You and I know that," The man had to remind the teen, "Besides, why don't you just drop this? Naruto's in love with Nia and it's as clear as day she feels the same way. To be honest, you're only causing them both pain and sorrow with the way you're acting."
"Are you kidding me?"
"No," Yamato was serious, "You're hurting Naruto... even if he tries to hide that fact from you..."
Kiba looked down, "Naruto can't be that hurt from what I've been telling him..."
"He is that hurt," Yamato replied as he thought about earlier, "I could tell just from how he was telling me about you and from watching his expressions and mannerisms..."
Kiba thought to himself for a moment before he crossed his arms and groaned, "Okay fine, I'll leave them alone for now."
"Thank you," Yamato placed a hand on his shoulder and gave it a squeeze, "We're going to need good cooperation if this mission to be a success. Now then, why don't you two get some rest while I go talk to Naruto and Nia real quick?"
"All right then." Kiba walked back into to the building as he gestured to his dog, "C'mon Akamaru, we got a long day ahead of us, boy."
And with that, the two friends left while Yamato also headed back in the building and began heading off in the direction of where Naruto and Nia were. As he did so, he began to hear noises with every step he took toward the door.

Oh boy... those two are gonna have to refrain from doing that until we complete the mission. Naruto looks like he's not gonna gain consciousness for another hour or so... Nia really gave it to him last night...
