I had cried my eyes out to my limit. How do I know that?

It's because I had officially run out of tears, and the energy to cry. After the first couple of hours heart-aching tears dripping off my face, I had started to become numb and had partaken in my favorite pastime; staring at my bedroom ceiling.

I was trying not to think about my mom walking away, not even feeling my presence. And my innocent, little brother and how the words that had fallen from his mouth were now engraved into the back of my mind.

She's just sleeping, she'll wake up. Right? That's what you told me.

These words alone could make my heart shatter into a million pieces.

Anyway, after hours of staring at my ceiling once more, Demetri made it clear to me that the only way to solve this is to actually work and figure what I'm meant to do here.

And how did he do that?

"Demetri! Let me down, you buffoon!" I screeched as he grabbed me by the waist, ripping me away from my wonderful bed and throwing me over his shoulder as if I weighed nothing.

He started walking towards the exit of my room when he stopped in his tracks, and I could almost feel the sarcastic smirk on his face as he said, "Who the hell says buffoon anymore?"

"Demetri! Let me down! This is pointless!" I argued, pounding my dainty, little fists against his muscular back, even though I knew I wasn't making a difference, "I'm going to whither away here, there's no way I'm going to figure this out!"

Demetri decided to completely ignore my statement as he walked down the stairs, with me feeling every bump on the way, "Ouch, gosh, I know I'm unconscious, but I can still bruise."

I heard a scoff, and next thing I knew, I was harshly dropped to the ground with a thud, "Ow, dude!"

He looked down at me and crossed his arm across his chest. I did the same, and whipped my head in a different direction, adding a dramatic "Hmph!" to make sure he knew that he sincerely angered me.

We stayed silent for a few moments.

"I don't understand, what could possibly be the solution to this entire situation?"

My voice rang through the dead silent house as I leaned my back up against the wall and focused my gaze back onto him, only to find him staring intensely at me.

My heart skipped a beat.

Although his stare alone made the palms of my hands start to sweat, I didn't look away. Mostly because I just couldn't.

His gaze was so captivating, and I took this opportunity, savoring every moment of the attention he's giving me.

I felt a shiver go up my spine as he took a step closer, leaning down on one knee to reach my eye level.

Gee, I wonder how red my face is right now.

"Mackenzie, listen to me. You can't keep laying on your bed and crying. I've done this millions of times before and most of the time, people make it back. But they sure as hell didn't do it by crying all day," his voice was rough and his words weren't as sweet as I thought they would be, which surely ruined the moment.

I scoffed, "Most of the time?"

He let out a sour chuckle, "That's what you took out of all that? God damn, woman." He lifted his hand up to his face and scratched his chin, a faint smile appearing on his face.

"If you've done this before then why don't you tell me how I go back?" I snapped at him, and I felt as though all my patience had been thrown out the window and replaced with the characteristic of an impatient child.

"Because it's different for each person," he replied calmly, and it seemed as though he got tired of my whining because he dropped down, criss-crossing his legs and started twiddling his thumbs.

Of course, this only infuriated me more.

After a few moments of just staring at him and his thumb-twiddling, I could feel my blood starting to boil, and I could tell by the smirk forming on his lips that he was doing this on purpose.

Then he laughed.

And it was the most beautiful sound I've ever heard. But of course, I couldn't think that.

So I threw a tantrum instead.

"Ugh! That's it! I'm going back to sobbing and staring at my ceiling."

As I pushed myself onto my feet and made it halfway to the stairs, I heard footsteps behind me and I was pulled back by a hand on my wrist.

Knowing it was him, I didn't even look back as I struggled to shake his hand off, "Demetri, let go of me."

He didn't budge, neither did he say a word.

"Demetri," I almost begged, my head starting to throb from all the thinking and crying, "Please."

Nothing.

All I had is the energy to say ,"I'm tired," before turning back around to face him.

My watering eyes met his dark ones and as soon as he saw my face, he dropped his hand from my wrist.

My gaze dropped to my wrist, refusing to look back at him as a single tear fell down my face.

Guess I didn't completely run out.

We stood like that for a bit, pretty sure we were both unsure of what to say. But finally, he let out a sigh before whispering, "It could be a lot of things."

My head shot up, eyes meeting his once more. I nodded slowly, urging him to go on.

He took a step back against the wall and mimicked my actions from earlier, sliding down the wall until he was sitting.

I dropped to my knees, without breaking eye contact with him as I sat criss-cross in front of him.

"It could be that you need to help someone. Of course, here is where you'd figure out who to help," he said, shifting is gaze passed me, and he looked like he was recalling all he could remember, "Sometimes, it's forgiveness. Sometimes, it's sacrifice. And most of the time, it's having to do something you've never done before. Like," he paused, looking back at me, "Love someone."

My breathe hitched at the mention of love, and I started to try to avoid the way he was looking at me.

"What do you mean?" I cautiously asked, a bit confused on how that would work.

"Well, a lot of people in this world don't allow themselves to forgive someone, trust anyone, interact with anyone and most commonly, love someone," he continues in a factual tone, "Usually they have certain someone in their life that they refuse to open up to, and not only do they have to figure out who that person is, but make sure you do whatever is needed to do when they get back."

"And if they don't do what they're suppose to do?"

"They die," Demetri casually answered with an almost perky tone, and my heart dropped at his answer, "for good this time."

"Just like that?" I panicked slightly.

"Yep," he popped the 'p' and held a straight face for a few seconds before flashing me a sarcastic, tooth-less smile, "They gave people a second chance, and they blew it. That's their consequence. The question you should be asking is, 'which one am I?'"

He had a point.

Which situation fits in with me? Do I need forgive someone?

And I trust people. I mean, I trust, like, two people. Clark and my mom. Not so sure about my devil of a little brother yet.

"Sacrifice?" I thought out loud, positive I had a confused expression on my face as I ran a hand through my hair.

"This one doesn't really count as one that can get you back," he hesitated, looking as though he was trying to find a way to word his thoughts, "If someone in your world is dying, you can give them your life."

"What do you mean, 'give them my life'?" My face contorted as I tried to make sense of his words. My eyebrows furrowed as I stared at him intently.

"It means all the years in your life that you had left, or would have had left if you succeeded, would be given to them. It would cure them of whatever was making them die and your years would be added along to theirs," he went further into detail, and it started making sense to me as to why it'd be a sacrifice.

"And then I'd die."

"Exactly."

I paused to think if there was anyone in my life that I desperately needed to be cured and no one came to mind. But there sure were a hell of a lot of people I would sacrifice myself for.

"I don't really think that applies to anyone in my life," I chimed.

"Well, lucky you," he didn't miss a beat and I started to notice that he was starting to twiddle his thumbs again.

It was a distracting, little movement, the thumb-twiddling. I decided to ignore it as I thought of the last possible outcome that could possibly bring me back.

I have to fall in love?

"Ding, Ding, Ding, we have a winner," Demetri sarcastically chimed in.

I hit his arm, "I told you not to read my thoughts!"

"Well, it took you long enough to realize what you're suppose to do," Demetri scoffed as he pushed himself up and off the wall.

He got onto his feet and started to walk away when I screeched, "Wait! Wha-who, uh," How am I suppose to phrase this without sounding strange? "Who am I suppose to fall in love with?"

I got onto my feet and dusted off the back of my pants, waiting for his response. I took a few steps closer to him, his eyes roaming the room as he filled his cheeks up with air and exhaling it all.

He shoved his hands inside his front pockets and looked down at the floor as he chuckled, "Beats me, dude."
