Prologue-

The rain crashed down on my roof, dripping down the shingles where it finally streamed down into the gutters. Individual droplets shivered down the glass of my bedroom window.

My eyelids gradually open to the sound of water falling inches away from where I rested. My arms extended towards the ceiling while I yawned tiresomely. The only thing on my mind now was Chris Whiteman and breakfast.

Chris Whiteman was your ordinary high school hotty. Every girl crushed on him, including the goths. He was tall and muscular with black hair. His eyes were blue, the color of the sky and the ocean. You were constantly staring into them.

I've discovered that every time I stare into his eyes, I just get lost. I can easily tell that he is a deep thinker and likes to take the smallest things in life and really try to get to know it a lot better. Basically, what I'm saying is I have no chance, whatsoever with him.

See, unlike Chris, I was your ordinary high school klutz. Even though I'm always found lying on the ground in my unsuccessful attempt to walk, I always try my best to keep my usual cheerful attitude. I'm always willing to take on a challenge and to prove to everyone that I can do much more then discover day after day that the laws of gravity are still in effect.

I am what those who are unable to grow tall call fun sized. I'm around five feet tall, if lucky, even 5"3'. The point is, I'm not that tall. I have black, short, straight hair and one of my weirdest features is that I have green eyes. Now, I'm not talking about the light shade of green, I'm talking your emerald, deep shade of green.

Let me tell you one thing that I have that every other girl would die for. Chris Whiteman is my closest friend, and I am his. Ever since pre-K, we've been as close as two peas in a pod. We've always been there for each other. I'm always there to protect him from being crowded, he's claustrophobic, and he's always there to get me back on my feet and keep going. It's a strong friendship.

Remember how I said I have no chance with him? Well, I don't. See, we've decided that it's best for the both of us to keep our relationship at a friendship level. He fears that if us dating doesn't work out, we won't be friends any longer, and we both don't want that to happen. I, on the other hand, wish that he would just see me as his love interest, but if he still doesn't, I'll still have to keep hoping that one day, he will.

Lets say one day, by some miracle, Chris did ask me out, he'd be right. It wouldn't last very long. See, we might be great best friends, but we have almost nothing in common. Like I said before, I have no chance with him. He's tall, muscular and most importantly, the hottest guy in school. I'm fun sized, underweight, and your ordinary high school klutz. Now, I'm not saying that we're exact opposites, but that we just don't have that much in common. For example, I believe in second chances where Chris believes that no one deserves more than one chance. Okay, bad example. Well, I'm not judgemental where he isn't gullible and feels very passionate about what he believes in. Okay, never mind examples. The point is, as much as I wish that it would work out, I know it would never happen as I dream it would.
