Growing impatient, you sit at a table waiting for your best friend, Y/F/N, to arrive. She had asked you to meet at your guys' favorite restaurant, Panera, for breakfast, but she's already running ten minutes late. You texted her that your were there only to get a simple I'll be there in a few back.
You decide to get up and order something to drink. You stand in line and wait until it's your turn. "I like your shirt," you hear a voice behind you say in a rough accent.
You look down at your Chicago Blackhawks t-shirt that you're wearing and then look at the owner of the voice. A shocked expression rushes across your face as you realize who it is. "Oh my god, you're Artemi Panarin!" You say.
"Yes, I am," he replies with a smile.
"I'm sorry," you start. "It's just that I love the Blackhawks and you're actually my favorite player and I didn't really expect to see you here."
Then you start to giggle. "What's so funny?" He asks.
"It's such a funny coincidence that you, Artemi Panarin, are here at this restaurant, Panera."
"Haha, yeah. Everyone was making a big deal about it so I decided to finally try it out."
There's a moment of awkward silence. "Are you, um, here alone?" Artemi asks, breaking the silence.
"Uh, well my friend was supposed to meet me here. She said she'd be here in a few, but that was a long time ago. So to answer your question: yeah, I guess," I answer.
"Would you like to join me?" He asks, nervously.
"Sure," you accept.
When it comes your turn, you tell the lady behind the desk your order. Artemi sneaks up behind you and says to the cashier, "make that two."
You start to dig through your purse for money. Artemi pulls out his wallet, "I got it."
"No, it's fine," you argue.
"No, let me pay."
Feeling guilty, you sigh and give up. Once your order is ready, the two of you find a table to sit at. "I never got your name," Artemi says.
"Oh, I'm sorry. It's Y/N," you reply.
"That's pretty. Like you," he says.
Your face turns red, "thanks."
"Could I take you out on a date sometime?" He asks.
Before you could answer, you hear someone call your name. You turn around to see that it's your friend. "It's about time you showed up," you scoff.
"I'm so sorry," is all she can say. "Dude, is that Artemi Panarin?!"
"Yes," you answer. "We met in line, he asked me to sit with him, and then he just asked me out."
"Well, what'd you say?" She questions.
You turn to Artemi and smile, "yes."
You then turn to your friend and in a joking manner say, "you snooze, you lose."
