It all comes down to this. The game is tied, meaning the next team to score wins the championship. Your college volleyball team was competing in one of the biggest annual tournaments. It was very important to win this championship title for your school. You were beyond nervous, though.

As you get settled into your position as setter, you look to where your boyfriend, Alex, is sitting. "Lets go Y/N!" He cheers you on. You can't help but smile. He's always been one of your biggest supporters.

The server on the other team serves it over the net. The receiver receives the ball by bumping it. You set the ball up into the air. Then, the outside hitter comes and spikes the ball over the net. The other team blocks the ball and you notice the ball come right down to you. You dive for the ball, but not in enough time.

Your arms miss the ball and it hits the ground. That's it. The other team cheers about their victory. Your teammates help you up. They tell you it's okay and it's not your fault.

A little while later, you finally meet up with Alex. "Hey, Y/N," he says to you as he pulls you in for a hug.

"Hey," you reply, barely hugging him back.

The walk back to Alex's car is silent. You don't really feel like talking; you're too sad to talk. And Alex doesn't really know what to say, and he doesn't want to bring up the loss.

When you get into his car, Alex breaks the silence by asking, "do you wanna do something?"

"Like what?" You question.

"I don't know, maybe go out for dinner together?" He suggests.

"I'm not hungry," you answer.

"The night is still young. How about we take a walk around downtown Columbus?"

"I don't want to."

"Then how about we.."

"Alex I don't want to do anything!" You snap. "I just wanna go home, lay under my blankets and be depressed while I binge watch Netflix and eat junk food."

"Is this about the loss?" He questions.

"Yes, Alex. Didn't you see me out there?"

"I did. Y/N, don't beat yourself up about this; it's not your fault."

"It most definitely is my fault! The ball was obviously coming right for me and I wasn't quick enough and I missed. I screwed it up for my team."

Alex grabs your hand and squeezes it, "it wasn't all you, so please don't beat yourself up about it. I love you, Y/N, okay?"

You can't help but smile as your eyes meet his. "I love you too, Alex."

"So, how about we stop at the store and get some ice cream and candy and chips and go home and watch movies and eat junk food together?" He suggests.

"I'd love that," you answer.

And that's what you two do. You couldn't be more grateful for a boyfriend like Alex. He really knows how to cheer you up when you're feeling down.
