"You like him, don't you?" Annabeth, my best friend, said to me as we were setting up camp for the night. I stopped what I was doing and said,
"What?" She pointed to where Percy was and said,
"Percy, you like him, don't you? I see the way you look at him." All I could do was nod my head as I felt my cheeks begin to heat up.
"Then why don't you just tell him how you feel?"
"While we're on a quest looking for my father's master bolt? Sorry but that's not going to happen. We don't exactly have any free time right now. Besides, even after we find and return the bolt, I'm not going to tell him."
"Why not? You'll have plenty of time to tell him."
"To be honest, I'm scared. Percy can get any girl he desires, why would he go for me? Sure, I'm a daughter of Zeus, but that doesn't mean anything. I may have a powerful father, who is blaming Percy for the disappearance of his weapon and wants him dead, but that doesn't mean anything because aside from that, I'm just a normal girl." I felt my heart start to ache, but I ignored the pain and continued doing what I was doing.
"Y/n," Annabeth began to say, but I interrupted her.
"Look Annabeth, I really don't want to talk about this. We should just focus on the quest, how I feel towards Percy doesn't matter. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to stand watch tonight." I grabbed my sword and walked off, ready to start my job. As I was walking, I passed by Grover.
"Hey Y/n, are you on watch tonight?" I nodded my head and said,
"Yeah, go ahead and get some sleep. Goodnight Grover."
"Goodnight Y/n." I continued walking, watching for any signs of danger. I have my sword in front of me, ready for any attacks.
"Hey Y/n." Percy said as I was walking.
"Hey Percy, what are you doing?" I said as I walked over to him.
"Just enjoying some quiet time. What about you? Are you standing guard tonight?"
"Yeah. I figured that everyone is tired after everything that happened today. Especially after doing that favour for Ares. I suppose we should at least thank him for the ride and the backpack full of supplies. Anyway, you should get some sleep Percy, we're almost to the Underworld and I don't know if we'll get anymore time to rest.
"Alright, goodnight Y/n."
"Goodnight Percy." I left him where he was and made my way to my post.
Time skip
"Annabeth, how did you do that?" Percy said once she reached us after playing ball with Cerberus, a massive three-headed dog.
"Obedience school. Now come on, we're so close to the throne room. Let's go." We left and made our way to the throne room, where we will find Hades. Once we arrive, we entered the room and found Hades sitting on his throne of fused human bones, looking lithe, graceful and dangerous as a panther. We walked up to him and bowed. Percy was the one to speak.
"Lord and Uncle, I come with two requests." Hades raised his brow and leaned forward in his throne.
"Only two? Arrogant child, as if you have not already taken enough. Speak then, it amuses me not to strike you dead yet." I could hear Percy swallow. This is not going well.
"Please sir, return Lord Zeus's master bolt to me and let me carry it to Olympus. No one wants a war."
"Do you think I want war Godling? I control all the precious metals under the earth. But the expenses! If we have war, I will have no place for all those souls to go. No, I don't want a war."
"Please uncle, return the bolt to me."
"Foolish child, don't you realise that you already have the bolt and yet, you come here and ask for me to give it to you. I know why you're really here. You're here to get your mother back, which you will, if you give me the bolt."
"I don't have the bolt."
"Open your pack." Percy had a look of horror on his face as he took the backpack off his shoulder and opened it up, only to find the bolt sitting in there.
"What?" I said. I saw Percy begin to fumble with something in his pockets and I remembered the four pearls we had found.
"Ah, the pearls." Hades began to say. "Yes, my brother and his little tricks. Bring them forth Percy Jackson." Percy took the pearls out of his pocket.
"Only four? What a shame. You do realise, Percy Jackson, that each pearl protects a single person. Try to take your mother and one of your friends would have to stay behind. What will you do?" We all looked at each other for a few moments.
"Percy, you can't give him the bolt. Use the pearl on your mother and leave me behind. I'm a satyr, it's my job to protect you." Grover said. Annabeth drew her bronze knife and said,
"No! You have to protect Percy Grover. You have to get your searcher's license and start your quest for Pan. Get his mum out of here, I'll stay behind." Annabeth said and Grover began to argue with her. While they were arguing, I took the pearls from Percy and walked over to Hades.
"Well, if it isn't my niece. What do you want?" I looked at my friends and said,
"Uncle, I volunteer to stay here in the Underworld. Please, let the others go and deliver the bolt to Zeus. You said so yourself, you don't want a war. Let the others return the bolt and stop this before a war descends upon us. Please, let Percy's mother go with them, I'll stay here in her place." I pleaded. Hades had a look of thought on his face. It was silent for a few moments until, he spoke up,
"Is this what you want dear niece?" I could hear concern in his voice and I felt touched that he cares. I clutched the pearls in my hand, looked over at my friends, saw that they were still arguing and said,
"This is what I want Uncle. Please, help us stop this before it gets any worse." He gave me a soft look and said,
"Alright, I will help. Come on, let's go and tell them what's going on. Oh, and just know this Y/n, you aren't in any danger while you're here. I may not like my brother's or any of their children, but you are different from them. I actually hold a soft spot for you my niece." I couldn't help it. I gave him a quick hug and said,
"Thank you Uncle. You know, you're not as bad as everyone makes you out to be." He placed his finger on his lips and said,
"Just don't tell anyone."
"Ok, I won't." We smiled at each other than walked over to the others. As we were walking over to them, Hades summoned Percy's mother and she appeared at the side of us. When I saw her, I walked up to her and gave her a hug.
"Hello Sally, it's great to see you." She returned the hug and said,
"Y/n, it's been a while." I grabbed her hand and placed one of the pearls in it.
"Use this to get out of here."
"But, what about you?" I glanced at Percy and said,
"I'm staying. The other's need to finish this before it gets worse." It was silent for a few minutes until Sally spoke up.
"You're doing this for my son, aren't you?" I nodded my head and said,
"I love him Sally and I would do anything for him. Even sacrifice myself so you and Percy can be together again. Please, don't argue with me on this, I've made my decision and nothing can change my mind." I said with determination in my voice.
"Y/n, what you're doing is amazing. My son deserves someone like you. Thank you." She gave me one more hug and we walked over to the group. When the others saw us, they stopped arguing and Percy ran over to his mother. Annabeth and Grover walked over to me while Percy talked to his mum. I gave one of the pearls to Annabeth and Grover, leaving the last one for Percy.
"Y/n?" Annabeth said with confusion in her eyes.
"Please, get him home." I said.
"But, what about you?" Grover said. I took a deep breath and said,
"I'm staying and nothing you guys say can change my mind." I said with determination.
"Alright, but we'll find a way to get you back." Annabeth said.
"Yeah, I'll be waiting. I'm going to go and tell Percy what's going on." I gave them both a hug and then walked over to Percy and Sally. When Sally saw me, she gave Percy a hug and said,
"I'll leave you two." She then left and walked over to Annabeth and Grover. I walked over to Percy, grabbed his hand and placed the last pearl in his hand.
"How did you get these?" He said with shock and confusion.
"When you, Annabeth and Grover were arguing, I took them from you. Take this pearl and get the bolt to my father before the deadline. Otherwise, war will be upon us." He grabbed my hand and was about to walk over to the other's but I pulled away from him he gave me a look of confusion.
"I'm not going with you Percy. There are only four pearls and five of us. You, Annabeth, Grover and Sally are leaving, I'm staying."
"What?" I let go of his hand and turned around, my back facing him.
"I'm staying, you and the others are going to return the bolt and stop this before it gets worse." I felt his hand on my waist and he spun me around so I was facing him.
"What about you?" I placed my hand on his cheek and said,
"Don't worry about me. I know you guys will bring me back home, I believe in you."
"I'll find a way to bring you back Y/n, I swear on the River Styx."
"I know you will. But, you have to go now. Go and save the world." He gave me one last hug and went over to the others. I stayed where I was and watched them as they placed the pearls on the ground and smashed them with their feet. Before the left, Percy looked at me once more with a determined look saying that he will bring me home.
"I believe in you Percy." I said. Then, I turned around and walked away.
Time skip
I walked into camp and the first person to see me is Annabeth. She ran up to me and hugged me.
"Y/n, you're back. I'm so happy to see you."
"You and me both Annabeth. So, tell me, what's going on now that the bolt is returned?"
"Well, Chiron has asked the Apollo cabin to organise a party to celebrate and it's happening later tonight. Everyone is going to be there."
"Awesome. Well, it was great seeing you, but I'm going to go and find Percy."
"Sure, I'll see you later." I waved goodbye and made my way to the beach, where I know Percy will be because it's his favourite spot. I'll admit, it's also my favourite spot. It's strange, I'm a daughter of the God of the sky, yet I love storms and swimming is my passion. Anyway, I found Percy at the beach and walked up to him. I tapped him on the shoulder and when he turned around, I said,
"Hey Percy."
"Y/n, you're back!" He engulfed me in a hug and I happily hugged him back.
"You did it, you brought me back home." I said as we released each other from the hug.
"I'm so glad that your back." We both sat down on the beach and watched the wave's crash against the shore. It was silent until Percy spoke up and said,
"Hey Y/n, I need your help with something." I could hear the seriousness in his voice. I turned to the side so I was facing him and gave him my full attention.
"Yeah sure. What do you need?"
"I need some advice. You see, there's this girl I really like and I want to ask her out, but I don't know how. She's really beautiful and everytime I see her, I tend to get tongue tied and just don't know what to say to her. How do you tell someone how you feel about them?" I felt my heart flutter when he spoke of this girl he likes and thought that maybe, just maybe, he feels the same way.
"Well, who is this girl that you want to ask out?" He scratched the back of his neck and said,
"It's Annabeth." Right then, right there, I felt my heart break and shatter into tiny pieces.
