The Man

The boards creaked as the mysterious stranger tried to walk into the shop, and soon the sound of footsteps was heard clearer, as if it was approaching the counter.

You tried to push all the journals back in the chest, trying not to reveal what you had been doing there. However, before you could even finish you felt Bakugo's hand on your arm, pulling you in his direction.

Bakugo's grip on your arm tightened as he pushed you under the cash register counter, leaving the chest you both had been inspecting out in the open.

"The chest," you harshly whispered to him but he shut you up.

"Shh, someone's coming," he whispered, his voice not even trembling slightly.

You held your breath as you heard the beaded door make its noise. The two of you waited for the while, hearing loud crashes and thuds of things come from what once was Bondye's office.

Your heart pounded in your chest as the person made their way towards the counter, their steps slow and deliberate.

Bakugo's hand clamped over your mouth, silencing the gasp that threatened to escape from you.

Suddenly, the man stopped in front of the cash register and seemed to looked around, their eyes scanning the shop.

You could see they wore big boots, and a long black cape that swept the floor as they walked. You pressed your head against the hard wood of the counter, holding your breath as you hoped the man wouldn't find you and Bakugo.

Your heart raced as you waited for him to leave, but instead, he moved closer to the counter, standing there for a moment. You knew he had seen what you left out. You could feel Bakugo's body tense beside you, ready to pounce at any moment.

The man kicked the chest and it tilted over before it fell, some of the journals falling out. The man bent down toward the books, his hand reaching out and slightly touching one before he stopped.

You pushed your legs toward you, squeezing them as close as you could while taking a hold of Bakugo's hand that was on your mouth. You had to be caught. You had to be.

The man stood there for another moment, each second in deafening silence made you want to pass out even more than the last second. Until finally, the man's boots began to walk away, soon disappearing into the shop.

Your body suddenly relaxed, knowing you weren't in danger anymore.

Unexpectedly, there was a loud and deafening bang that echoed through the shop, maybe even the city. The sound of the gunshot reverberated through the shop, causing panic and chaos to erupt inside you.

It was just the sound of a gunshot that had sent shivers down your spine and maybe of everyone who heard it.

You looked over to Bakugo and you could see the fear in his eyes, there were no quirks to help you both anymore.

"Get out from under there," a voice said. Another sound of a gun filled the shop, this time it was the gun being cocked.

Your heart skipped a beat as your eyes turned to see who it was, even if you couldn't see the person.

"Don't make me say it again, I'm done with running after you two little punks, get out."

You looked over to Bakugo with wide eyes. You were willing to follow Bakugo's decision, after all he was the hero here, he should've been able to make the decision in a split second.

Bakugo nodded, agreeing to the voice.

You wished you hadn't been willing.

Bakugo crawled out from under the counter, standing up first and reaching a hand under for you.

You hesitated before you reluctantly took it, Bakugo pulling you out with ease. You looked over to see who had been the man; his face obscured by a hood.

He glanced around the shop, his eyes lingering on the chest that Bakugo and you left out. "How'd you open that?" He asked, pointing the gun over to the chest.

"With an axe," Bakugo stated.

You brushed your hand against Bakugo's a few times, searching for the courage to hold his hand.

Bakugo with one swift motion, grabbed your hand and squeezed it, relaxing you a little. You didn't know if it was helping you more or Bakugo.

"Where's Bondye? What'd you do to her?"

"Us?" You questioned, gaining a second confidence.

The man glared at you, waving the gun toward you and making you jump back in fear. "Yeah, you," the man spat, a hint of annoyance in his voice.

The man let out a frustrated sighed as he pulled off his hoodie, revealing his tousled brown hair that fell in messy waves, framing his chiseled jawline and strong features. But it was his piercing green eyes that were truly captivating, full of depth, intensity, and definitely some mystery.

You blinked a few times, regaining your composure. How could a man that looked so young and maybe a bit handsome, sound so dangerous?

"This wasn't supposed to be opened, why did you open it?" The man asked, walking over to you.

Bakugo stood between you and the man. "Fuck off, the old lady was gone before we were even here," he explained, trying to get the man off of your back.

The man turned his eyes to Bakugo. "You make so much problems, lover boy."

"Lover boy?" Bakugo repeated, his voice showing anger and confusion.

"Yeah, lover boy, now I gotta fix this mess," the man responded.

You looked around, "there really isn't a mess, just some books."

"It's not about that mess nor the books, it's what barriers you broke when you destroyed it...why was it so easy for you to destroy?"

You shrugged, "uh, it's an axe, like a Viking axe kind of thing."

The man waved you off. "It was supposed to be protected...unless..."

The man looked around the shop, the features on his face becoming tense and nervous.

Bakugo and you both gave each other a confused look, could there be someone else watching?

"He must be here," the man said, turning his attention back to the two of you. "Great, now I'm stuck with two teenaged morons who can't even get their hands off of each other." The man began to walk, moving in between you and Bakugo and breaking your hands apart. "So much messes this woman leaves me," he muttered. "Does all the easy work, including the good news but can't even tell you both the bad news."

You turned to him as you raised an eyebrow, your interest peaked. "What did you say?"

The man gave you a glare before responding, "y'know what I don't care if I'm executed, I'm telling you both exactly what happens if-" he started waving his hands around the two of you. "-if what effects you make, make big causes."

"Oh, you mean like the universes stuff...like a rug," you stated.

The man gave you a side eye, "a rug? The multiverse isn't exampled with just 'a rug', it's far too complex to even state it as the multiverse either.

Such pathetic humans," he mumbled under his breath, kneeling down to the ground and touching one of the journals.

"What did you mean by barriers?"

"Why do you ask so many questions?" The man retorted, clearly agitated and not wanting to be pushed further, so you left it alone. "Please, lover boy, can you try not to think of escaping for at least a second? Right now I'm the one with the gun and you're the one with the lost quirk."

You turned to Bakugo who was just standing there, just as confused as you were. It could've been that Bakugo was just thinking about it, maybe this man could read minds like Bondye did.

Bakugo scoffed as he rolled his eyes, crossing his arms in anger.

"What do those books say? They're in some other kind of language," you questioned, kneeling down next to the man.

"It's not a language, it's far complex than that," he responded.

Every time you asked a question he would answer it in a way that never gave an answer, you wanted to know and all he did was clue at it. You gained the confidence that Bakugo had lost and said, "What's your problem?"

The man looked up to you. "I don't need to explain myself to a mortal."

"If you're immortal or something then why do you carry a gun?" The man chuckled, reaching to his belt for his gun and pointing it at you, you knew the gun was loaded and couldn't help but instantly jump back in fear. "Because it scares you, and I love seeing you grapes scared." The man stood up and walked away, leaving you beside the chest.

A grape?

You repeated the man's actions, following him from behind the counter.

"So you have a date with that author guy, huh?" The man put away his gun, throwing his hood back onto his head. "Go have fun, I'll see you both in a bit." The man started the walk away, walking over the door as if there was no grease on it.

You quickly followed the man, continuously slipping on the door as you tried to see where the man was going. Bakugo had to help balance you out before he pushed you forward, which was a bit rude but you didn't pay no mind to it.

What your mind was on was that the man had disappeared into thin air. Bondye's building was in a plain space of nothing as it was under a highway, the alleyway you had exited from was pretty far away. That man couldn't have just disappeared like that...

...could he?...
