A few days after
Things between Ellen and Patrick ate going amazingly welll
Talula and the twins are in Washinton with their mom today, Ellen's kids are with their father so Patrick decides to invite Ellen over at his hotel since he promised her a date
"hey" his face lightens up when he sees her
"I didn't know what to wear, I don't even know where we are going but you said to dress formal so here I am" she says confused
"you look beautiful” he peaks her lips
"you know we can't go out right? paparazzi would find us and we haven't explained the situation to the public yet” Ellen frowns
"that's good because I don't want to bring you anywhere, I just wanted some alone time with you without kids, without anyone” he smirks
"couldn't we do that at my place?” she giggles
"no because I wouldn't be able to surprise you the way I wanted" he smirks
"surprise me?” her eyes widens
"let's go” he takes her hand and leads her to his hotel suite
When she enters she notices the roses and the champagne he has prepared for them. Ellen is not really a romantic person but she loves this kind of things
"I like this" smiles
"I knew you would" he giggles
"but what was the dress for if we are staying here?” she scranches her nose
"for me” he wispers in her ear with a deep voice
"you horny, you never change" she slaps him
they both laugh and sit on the bed looking at each other
they both know they have to talk but neither has the courage to do that
"I want us to work, so we have to talk about what we did wrong in the past. Why it went that way” Ellen suggests
"we did nothing wrong, we were just both with other people, everything and everyone was against us”
"we could have handled it better in so many ways” Ellen disagrees
Patrick nods
"the couple therapist Jillian and I went to always made us start with what behaviour hurt each other”
"I- okay, seems like a good star, do you want to start? you probably know how to do it better than me”
"okay... I- I was hurt when I had to look at you marrying another man and building a family with him and I couldn't do anything about it or when you kept denying the rumours about us”
"I get that but I needed to protect my honour, having affair allegations wasn't good for my career... I still don't know how much I am actually going to pay the consequences when my new serie comes out. You know they always villanize the woman and justify the man”
"we will face it together, I will defend you as much as I can... I promise” he takes her hand
"we will try to make it right since now on okay?”
"sure, you still have to say what hurt you, don't try to escape” Patrick chuckles
"okay, well... definitely when you left, I had always known that things might go wrong and we wouldn't have end up together but I never tought that we could just stop talking at all, I had always tought we would have staid friends. You weren't just a lover for me, you were my bestfriend and that was very painful”
"I could never make up for those years but it was the only option, Jill was trying to take the kids away from me and... they were so little. Stella was just a kids too, Sienna was barely a toddler and I knew that you wanted to have a male son”
"you don't need to apologize again, you have already apologized a thousand times”
"I could have handled it better, I had just... given up the idea of us being together”
"when Sienna was born right? you were never the same with me after that"
"don't get me wrong, I love Siennna and she is adorable but in my head I would have gotten divorced when the twins would have turned 18 and went to college and I would wait for you untill Stella did the same”
"I know that was what you wanted but it just seemed so far away, Stella was just 5, it would have been so long”
"yeah, I just didn't realize how irrealistic that was" he admits
"now we can talk about something good that we never said to each other” Patrick goes on
"I-I'm glad that you called me first, I am very proud so I would have never done the first step, even if I didn't hate you anymore and I am glad you never said anything bad about me even if I was talking badly about you that means a lot for me”
“that's good, we are very good at this” he smiles
"see? we don't even need a shrink” Ellen jokes
he laughs
“okay, my turn... I am glad that you were so determined to fix all our disagreements instead of just not considering them like I tend to do and I am glad that you always said I was irreplacable for the show even when they wanted you to say the opposite”
"I never say what other people want me to say, I always say what I feel like saying” Ellen scoffs
"that's a very good thing about you, you always stood up for yourself more than I do for myself” he lowers his heard
"hey, this is ended” she sweetly takes his hand "I will never tell you what to say or what to do. They will ask both of us an embarassing amount of questions about our relationship and our previous marriages and I want you to be free to answer what you want okay?”
Patrick nods with a huge smile
"You don't have to deminuish your marriage with Jillian just to make me happy, I don't want you to do that. We were married to different people for respectively 16 and 23 years and, as much I am happier now, no one expects us to say that we never loved them and we are the only love of each other's life, it would be disrespectful”
"but you are... you are the love of my life and I want everyone to know that, even if I am positive that the whole fandom already knows”
she looks at him shocked
"what?" he pushes her, looking for a reaction
“no one had ever told me that, I tought no one felt that way about me" she wispers with tears in her eyes
"I do, I always have but I couldn't tell you because I was married" he says softly
drying the tears on her cheeks and kissing her passionately laying on top of her
"no sex until the divorce is final, I was serious when I said that” she stops him teasing the collar of his shirt

"the dress stays on for tonight” she laughs

"it's not, I don't wanna be a mistress anymore, I want to do this right”
"I am separated, you... you don't trust me?"
"I do, I just want to wait untill those chapters of our lives are completely over" she kisses him on the cheek
"you are so going to pay for this when those papers are ready” he grins
"I can't wait” she smirks
