   Let's Be Friends: Emily Osment

"Wow, sure is peaceful in here this early in the morning." Clark enters the diner as I wipe down the counter.

"The only thing I like about this job." I half joke before placing the rag aside.

"Hey." He leans his arms against the counter.

"Hi?" I furrow my eyebrows before placing my arms against the counter as well.

"How are you feeling?"

"You need something?"

"Just a job." Clark holds up the help wanted sign.

"Here?"

"Well, if I'm gonna work, why not do it where all of my friends are hanging out?"

"I think you came into the wrong place."

"What?"

"This isn't the Talon. It's a few blocks down."

"I already went there."

"Oh, so, Lana shot you down. Ouch." I mimic a knife into my chest. "Love hurts, huh?"

"It has nothing to do with Lana. I'm applying for a good amount of jobs." Clark tells me.

"Like here—the Talon's competition."

"Not the Talon's fault that you're a better cook."

"If you pull another I feel sorry for her compliment, I'm banning you, I swear to God." I turn and open the coffee pot.

"It's true." Clark walks over to me. "Even Lana knows it."

"Does the President?"

"No."

"Then it ain't true." I open the bag of coffee beans.

"I fixed the leak here. And I helped you paint." Clark points out.

"Because I had no other option. Literally. We're talking about eat or be eaten kind of option."

"Ouch."

"Good." I lightly hit his chest with my fist before I pour the coffee beans in the pot. "But talk to Hank, I hear they're hiring over at the hardware store."

"Ouch."

"Music to my ears."

"I really need a job. You get to be my boss." Clark tells me and I turn to see him raise his eyebrows.

"I can put you in the running with the other applicants." I grab an application from under the counter and hand it to him.

"Thanks." He grins.

"Continue to gloat and I'll chop you down like a cherry tree." I pour some water into the coffee pot and then close it. "God, how do people drink this? I get nauseous just from the smell."

"You get used to it after a while. It's only tastes weird at first."

"I'll pass, thanks." I glance at my watch before I turn back to the counter. "Have you eaten?"

"No."

"You want something?"

"Only if you eat too."

"Sit down and shut up for like, five minutes. Can you manage that?" I wonder.

"I'll try my best." Clark nods before siting at the counter and I shake my head as I head into the kitchen.

──────✧❅✦❅✧──────

"It's mine now." I catch the basketball as it goes though the hoop.

"Working at the Talon—could you be any more obvious?" Pete questions.

"I already gave him the self humiliation run down." I dribble the ball under my legs.

"Nice." He high fives me.

"What happened to the Pete Ross rule of proximity? If you wanna get in the game, you've gotta get on the court." Clark challenges and he goes to take the ball from me, but I run under him.

He follows after me and I start to dribble the ball. I run side to side and he continues blocking me. I now twirl around before jumping. I chuck the ball from several feet away and the ball lands in the net.

"Yeah, Bri!" Pete claps and I exhale as he catches the ball.

"Sucker." I glance at Clark before Pete passes me the ball.

"Clark, Lana would be your boss. She's going to take out all of her pent up frustrations of all the times you've ever let her down. You're not going to be in the game."

"You're going to be in the locker room cleaning the toilets." I nod and Pete chuckles before I make another basket.

"I'm probably not going to get the job anyway." Clark inquires.

"Right, you'll be stuck with me. Rah, rah, rah."

"So I got the job?" He goes to takes the ball.

"Didn't say that." I pull my arms away.

"You didn't deny it either." Clark takes the ball and holds it up.

"Really?" I raise my eyebrows.

"Serious." He nods and I take a big jump, then grabbing the ball from his hand.

"Nice!" Pete laughs and I make a basket before punching Clark's arm.

"Guys, I want you to meet somebody." Lex heads out his car with a boy. "This is Lucas, my brother."

"What's up, guys?" Lucas asks. "Hey. I'm Lucas." He grins at me before holding out his hand.

"So I hear." I shake it. "Brianna."

"Brianna, you feeling better?" Lex hugs me.

"Yeah. Helen gave me a meal plan. And she called earlier to check in. Thank you for the books." I hug him back.

"Of course. Even if you are done reading all of them."

"I have two left."

"My guess was none."

"Ha ha." I scoff.

"Hey, Lucas, you wanna shoot some hoops?" Pete offers.

"Yeah, sure." Lucas nods and I hand the ball to Pete.

"Alright, let's go." He and Lucas head toward the basket, tossing the ball back and forth.

"Did I slip into a coma in the hospital, because I don't recall you mentioning anything about having a brother." I cross my arms.

"I didn't mean to drop a bomb on you guys." Lex tells us.

"I thought he was supposed to be, well...uh, dead." Clark says.

"What?" I gape. "You knew and didn't tell me?" I hit the back of his head.

"Ow." He rubs it. "I'm not gonna apologize. You need to get better."

"Shut up." I mutter.

"Good comeback."

"Thank you." I nod.

"You're welcome." Clark replies.

"Lex, what the hell?"

"Lucas was buried by my father. I've been looking for him for several months." Lex informs.

"Why didn't you say something?" Clark asks.

"Very hypocritical thing to say." I send him a glare.

"Well, because I wasn't sure what I was going to find." Lex's cell phone rings. "I've gotta straighten something out with the bank. Lucas, we have to get going."

"Hey, uh, you can hang out here if you want." Clark tells him. "Give us a chance to get to know him a little bit."

"Uh, yeah, sure. Absolutely." Lucas agrees.

"I'll be back in an hour." Lex nods. "If you need anything, call me, okay?"

"I will. Thanks, Lex." I nod and he grips my shoulder before getting back into his car, now driving off.

"Here you, go, Pete." Clark jogs toward the basket, but I beat him to it.

"Slowpoke." I retort and Pete tosses the ball up and Clark tips it in the basket before I can.

"Slowpoke." He mocks.

"Arm wrestling match. Get ready, Kent." I point at him with narrow eyes. Pete then catches the ball as it drops through the net and tosses it to Lucas.

"So, uh, you and Lex seem close." Lucas shoots the ball.

"What, are you kidding? They're like brothers." Pete inquires and I see Clark shift uncomfortably as Lucas smiles.

"So, Lucas. Where did you grow up?" I wonder.

"All over." Lucas tosses the ball to Pete.

"Must be kind of weird not knowing your mom or your dad." Pete tells him.

"No, not really. Parents always try to make you little versions of themselves. When you grow up without those constraints, you're allowed to become your own person."

"It's an interesting theory. I don't think I buy it, though." Clark shakes his head.

"Alright. Let's, uh, let's take you and Lex, for example." Lucas catches the ball from me. "If he were raised by your parents and you were raised by Lionel, you wouldn't grow up to be different people?"

"Well, I-"

"Trust me, you'd be rich and miserable, and he'd be wearing flannel. But if you were left totally alone, abandoned by your parents, how do you think you'd turn out?"

"I'm not sure."

"It's when you find out what you're really made of. Are we going to stand around and chit-chat all day, or are we going to play some ball? Brianna, Clark, let's see what you got." Lucas urges and I take the ball before walking towards the front.

"Check it up." I toss the ball and he tosses back to me with a grin.

Lucas moves in position to guard me as he moves toward the basket. I shoot from where I'm standing, and the ball goes into the hoop.

"Not bad." Lucas catches the ball.

"She was quarterback too." Pete smiles.

"Interesting."

"Because I'm a girl?" I raise my eyebrows.

"Not at all." Lucas shakes his head. "Just didn't know someone could be more talented than they are beautiful is all." He tosses me the ball and I firmly catch it.

"Smooth, man." Pete laughs.

"So which is it?" I ask.

"What?" Lucas questions.

"Am I talented?" I dribble the ball and he blocks me before I go around him, then putting the ball through the hoop again. "Or am I beautiful?" I catch the ball and toss it to him before getting back over to the front.

"That just might be the most difficult question I've ever been asked."

"Might be?" I raise my eyebrows and he grins down before tossing the ball to Clark.

Clark shoots the ball and it clangs off the rim. Lucas catches the rebound and stares cockily at Clark. Lucas then moves to go on the offensive, purposely bumping into Clark as they switch positions on the court. Clark rolls his eyes, and I share a look with Pete.

"Be cool, man." Pete mutters.

"Yeah, simmer down. You're only allowed to act this distraught when I beat you at arm wrestling later." I inquire and Clark scoffs before nodding.

Clark now gets in position to guard Lucas. With a quick spin move, Lucas moves easily around Clark and lays the ball into the basket. Lucas tosses the ball to Clark as he passes him. Clark looks at us grin and I roll my eyes at the immaturity. Lucas prepares again to go on the offensive.

He gets past Clark and shoots the ball, but Clark makes an almost impossibly high leap, blocking the shot against the backboard and grabbing the ball. He dribbles the ball away, giving Lucas a cocky look of his own as he passes him. Lucas just stares at him with an expression of disbelief.

Clark goes on the offensive, and glares at Lucas. He quickly moves past Lucas and heads for the basket, leaping high into the air as he jumps several feet to the basket, dunking the ball with a windsailing slam-dunk. Clark grins at Pete and gives Lucas a look of triumph. I share a concerned look with Pete before getting in between Clark and Lucas.

"Hey, Rocket Man, we don't want anybody to get hurt. Seriously, you're starting to become Jack the Giant." I place my hand on his bicep.

"Alright." Clark nods and I get back next to Pete.

Clark begins dribbling the ball as Lucas gets in position to guard him. Clark makes a move toward the basket and Lucas goes to block him. As he does, he swings his arm in a possible attempt to steal the ball, and ends up bumping roughly into Clark.

"Aah!" Lucas grimaces and doubles over in pain from the contact, clutching his shoulder.

Clark stops and Lucas stands and swings his arm back and forth, making sure it's okay.

"Sorry, man. No hard feelings, right? It's just a game."

"Right." Clark nods.

"Felt like you had a steel plate in there or something." He comments and I feel Clark look at me. "Any chance I could get a ride back to the mansion?"

"Yeah, I'll give you a lift." Pete nods and Lucas chuckles at Clark.

"I look forward to seeing you again, Brianna." Lucas hands me the ball before walking off with Pete.

         ──────✧❅✦❅✧──────

"No." Clark shakes his head.

"Yes." I urge.

"No."

"Yes." I place my arm on the kitchen counter and hold up my hand. "Don't make me beat you with my crowbar."

"Fine. You win, you don't give me the job. I win, you give me the job."

"The hell is that, Kent?"

"What did you call it? Oh, yeah. Compromise." Clark nods and I send him a glare, making him smile.

"You can't use my own words against me. I made up the word, therefore it's mine." I inquire.

"You didn't make up the word compromise."

"Prove it."

"Literally any dictionary can."

"Well, I gave it a new meaning and you can't have it."

"Good. I don't want it anyway."

"Good."

"Glad we agree."

"Glad you're glad, but not really. Now take my goddamn hand." I order.

"So we have a deal?" Clark raises his eyebrows.

"Yeah, sure." I deadpan and he grins before taking my hand in his.

"On three?"

"No, let's just stand here and talk about it all night. Yes, Kent, on three."

"One...two...three." Clark says and I start pushing down.

"If you let me win, I will suffocate you in your sleep." I warn and his arm starts going down. "Kent, I swear to God, I—" I cut myself off as he starts pushing my arm up and we lock eyes. I now look away and I tighten my jaw. I use all of my strength and push down as hard as I can without gripping the counter for help. "Jon, Martha, have I mentioned how much I dislike your son?" I glance at Jonathan and Martha reading in the living room.

"Mom, dad, have I mentioned how much I dislike this insufferable human being in front of me? If she even is a human being." Clark shoots back and I send him a warning glare.

"You're not pushing, but you're not moving." I keep trying to push his arm. "What the fuck?" I inhale.

"So I win."

"No, you don't. Cause neither of us are winning or losing."

"Whatever makes you feel better." Clark nods before a knock on the door is made. "I'll get it." He lets go of my hand and I rub my shoulder. "Hey, Lex." He opens the door.

"Hey. Clark, I'm sorry to bother you." Lex says.

"No problem. Is everything alright?"

"No, it's not."

"Lex. What happened?" I head over with Martha and Jonathan.

"According to my father, I'm, uh, no longer a Luthor. He's left me with nothing, not even a place to live. So, I, uh, was wondering..." Lex nervously glances at Jonathan. "If, uh...I could stay with you for a while?"

       •──────✧❅✦❅✧──────

"You want the job?" I head over to Clark and lean against the lockers. "You got it. Only because no one has filled out an application but you."

"One, I'm surprised and two, I really appreciate it, but Lana already gave me the job at the Talon." Clark tells me.

"Oh, thank God."

"Brianna, I'm sorry, I-"

"No, no, don't apologize. You have officially made me the happiest woman in the world, Kent. Knowing that I will not be your boss and knowing that you will not make me an alcoholic in the near future puts my mind at great ease. So, thank you and God bless." I punch his arm before walking off.

     •──────✧❅✦❅✧──────

"Thanks for the sandwich." I sit on the Torch desk with my legs crossed under me and my computer on my lap.

"Thank the store." Chloe tells me.

"You bought it for me. Same difference." I swallow and she chuckles.

"How you feeling?"

"Better than I did four days ago."

"Good."

"Listen, um, I'm sorry if I freaked all of you out. And about the...the dream I had. I was on medication and I didn't mean to-"

"Brianna, hey." She places her hand on my shoulder and I turn to her. "You don't have anything to apologize for. And it's very common for people to have dreams about loved ones. Who are here and who aren't. And you said it was a nice dream."

"It was." I nod.

"That's all that matters. I loved hearing about it. It shows that your dad is still looking after you. In any way he can." She nods back.

"Funny. He never did before."

"Maybe...Maybe he's trying to make up for it."

"Ahem." Clark enters from the corner of my eye.

"Hey. I didn't know the Talon delivered." Chloe inquires and I wipe my hands before I continue typing while chewing.

"I decided to make an exception."

"I assume you got the job, then."

"Apparently, the editor of the Torch put me over the top."

"So how does it feel to be a minimum wage earner?"

"Great. But there seems to be some personnel changes over at the Talon."

"Are you talking about Lucas Luthor?"

"Yeah, how'd you know?"

"Are you kidding?" Chloe chuckles. "The prodigal Luthor son returns, and to top it all off, the new heir has taken over the castle. I mean, that's the story that could land you a byline on the front page of the Daily Planet. With thanks to Agent Brady." She adds and I wink at her before I continue typing.

"I just—I don't trust Lucas. I think he's hiding something." I feel Clark look at me.

"C'mon, Clark, cut the guy a break. He's had a really tough life. He bounced from foster home to foster home. I mean, he never got adopted."

"Well, when you were looking at his past, you didn't find anything weird at all?"

"Just the source." I hit a few keys and I pull the paper from the printer after a few seconds, then handing it to Clark.

  •──────✧❅✦❅✧──────

"Metropolis United Charities." Lex looks at the paper as I lean my arms over my knees.

"Chloe said Lucas's file didn't even exist two weeks ago. Suddenly, there it is." I inquire.

"Like somebody wanted him to be found. Of course, the detectives I hired failed to mention where they got their information."

"Do you think your father knew about Lucas all along?" Clark wonders.

"Do you even have to ask? Lucas was in on this from the beginning." Lex starts to walk.

"If your father was hiding Lucas, why would he suddenly let you find him?" I stand up.

"Because ever since he took LexCorp, he knows I've been looking for an opportunity to get back at him. He co-opted Lucas before I could. While I've been playing checkers, my father's been playing chess." He leaves.

"I can't believe I saved his father's life. While I got shot at the knees." I mutter before sitting back down.

"What?" Clark furrows his eyebrows.

"What?" I turn to him.

"You never did tell me what happened in that building."

"The bad guy died, that's all that matters." I pick the fuzz off my sweatpants. "I gotta get back to work, or else the place will go up in flames." I now stand back up. "I'll call you later if anything else happens to blow up." I leave.

   •──────✧❅✦❅✧──────

"Hey, Clark." Chloe greets as we enter the Talon.

"Hey. What did you find out?" Clark asks.

"So they caught Lucas's shooter outside Metropolis. His name is Dirk Lee. They tracked him down with the license plate number that you gave them." I inform.

"Did he tell the police who tipped him off?" He moves to another table and we follow him.

"Not exactly. Somewhere between the booking and the holding cell, Dirk mysteriously keeled over and died." Chloe says.

"Someone didn't want him to talk." I nod.

"Yeah, someone who had enough power to kill him in the middle of a police station. Know of anyone that comes to mind?"

"Shit!" I turn and exit out of the Talon.

          •──────✧❅✦❅✧──────

"Who is that?" Lionel asks as we enter and I place my finger over my lips.

"It's Clark Kent." Clark answers.

"Clark. Oh, Clark. I'm sorry. I meant to call and thank you for saving Lucas. Your, uh, rescues are becoming a bit of a Luthor family tradition. Brianna too. Is she with you?"

"No, she's at work. So, I understand they caught the shooter in Metropolis."

"Yes, I heard that." Lionel sips his drink.

"So I can assume you've also heard that he died while in police custody?" Clark stands in front of him and I quietly walk around the room.

"Oh. That's unfortunate. But, um, it happens."

"Just awfully convenient, isn't it? Kind of like how Lex was able to track down Lucas."

"I think you've inherited your father's paranoia." Lionel chuckles.

"We're not talking about my family, Mister Luthor. We're talking about yours." Clark inquires and Lionel's cell phone begins to ring.

"Goodnight, Clark." He takes out his phone. "Send my regards to your mother?" He adds and we leave before I listen in. "Yeah. What? Lucas, where are you? Alright, alright." He looks his watch and my eyes widen. "I'll take the, uh, chopper. I'll be there in half an hour. "My office. Don't do anything rash. You understand me?" He hangs up and I clench my jaw before entering.

"Brianna!" He exclaims as I punch Lionel across the face, making him grunt.

"Listen to me, you son of a bitch!" I fist Lionel's shirt before taking out my gun. "You're gonna walk in there, you're gonna talk Lucas down and I swear to God, if you get another person killed, I will blind you. Right here, right now. Do you understand me?"

   •──────✧❅✦❅✧──────

"Lucas?" Lionel says as me and Clark wait outside the hallway.

"Glad you could make it." Lucas replies.

"What the hell are you doing?"

"C'mon, dad, this is exactly what you wanted. Pitted us against each other, and we played into your Cain and Abel fantasy just like you knew we would." Lex inquires.

"Put the gun down, Lucas. Put it down." Lionel warns and I tightly grip my gun.

"How do you know he's got a gun? You twisted son of a bitch!"

"Boys, calm down. Calm-"

"You're the one who told me I needed to finish what I started. Well, as long as Lex is around, I'll always have to fight for my place in this family." Lucas taunts.

"Lucas, you are not going to shoot your brother." Lionel tells him.

"You're right. You are."

"What do you expect to achieve, Lucas? Tell me."

"Isn't it obvious, dad? Once we're both out of the picture, young Lucas here inherits everything." Lex informs.

"Pull the trigger." Lucas orders.

"Think, Lucas, just think." Lionel suggests and I look around.

"Lucas. Think this through. I'm not your enemy, Lucas." Lex says and I look up to see a large air vent that passes over the room. "I'm not the one who deliberately kept you in the foster care system."

"You're not helping things, Lex."

"Did you ever wonder why you were never adopted? If you were in trouble, how you always got bailed out at the last minute? Don't tell me you thought you were just lucky."

Clark now follows my gaze and I pull him back. He now holds out his hands and gives me a leg up. I climb into the vent and get inside before holding out my hand. Clark jumps before grabbing it.

I now grit my teeth and try to pull him up. His free hands grips the vent and he pulls the rest of himself up. Our foreheads almost touch as we lock eyes. We start to stare at each other before I turn my head at the sound of the Luthor voices.

"We're a social experiment. One son gets everything, the other gets nothing." Lex goes on as I start crawling and Clark follows behind me.

"That's ludicrous. I would never do that." Lionel denies.

"Yeah, you would. Just like you tipped off the shooter? Your friend Dirk was on our father's payroll. Edge City was a setup."

"Shut up. You wanted to use me too." Lucas snaps.

"Yes, I did, and for that I am truly sorry. But trust me, trying to gain his love and respect is not worth it." Lex promises.

"Is it true? Is that what you did to me?"

"We've got a lot to talk about, son." Lionel says.

"After you kill Lex. For once, I want the blood to be on your hands." Lucas tells him and I start crawling faster with a heaving chest. "Time's up, dad."

"No. I can't do it."

"That's just too bad."

"Lucas, please, don't. I will not kill my son." Lionel pleads and I stop, now watching the scene unfold.

I look around before eyeing Lucas's gun. I cock mine and raise it. I place my finger on the trigger and I shoot at his gun after a few seconds. Lucas gasps before the gun falls from his hand.

"You psychotic little bastard!" Lionel brings his gun around and pistol whips Lucas, knocking him to the floor.

"No!" I rip the grate off the air vent and I jump down, standing in front of Lucas as Lionel fires the gun twice at me.

"Brianna!" He shouts and I hold my chest before Lucas pulls me down with him. "Brianna, I..."

"It must be in the genes." Lucas quirks up and Lex chuckles.

"It's blanks." He realizes before Lucas sits up and pulls the clip from his gun.

"This one too." He holds up the clip. "You're okay. You're alright." He cups my face. "You okay?"

"Yeah." I whisper and he helps me up.

"Brianna. Brianna, I..." Lionel trails off.

"Checkmate." Lex smiles and Lucas gets up and begins to free him from the chair, ripping the tape off.

"C'mon." Lucas grabs my hand and I leave with him and Lex. "Give me a minute."

"Sure." He nods before stepping away.

"How did you know where we were?"

"I'm a good tracker." I tell him and he chuckles before I slap him across the face. "That's for the blanks." I clench my jaw.

"Fair enough." Lucas rubs his jaw. "But if they were real bullets, I would've taken one for you. And the ones after that. I hope you know that." He nods.

"Where are you going now?"

"Somewhere safe. Lex is gonna take me."

"Good."

"I really like you, Brianna. And not because you're a good tracker, or that you can make a slam dunk, or that you can—you know what, it is because of that. And so much more." Lucas tells me and I lowly scoff. "I would love to take you on a date, but..."

"Someday?"

"Someday." He nods. "Can I kiss you?"

"Lex is my friend. And he also happens to be your brother. And not to mention, he's watching us." I glance at Lex from a few feet away.

"Good." He cups my face before kissing me.

I close my eyes and I start kissing him back. My arms snake around his neck and he kisses me harder. My hands now fall to his chest as our lips move in sync.

"Call me when you're ready?" He slips a piece of paper in my hand.

"Only if you're waiting by the phone." I joke.

"Already ahead of you." He holds up his phone and we share a chuckle. "Goodbye, Brianna." He pulls away before walking off.

   ──────✧❅✦❅✧──────

"Two minutes till closing." Clark enters the diner as I wipe down the counter.

"Saved by the bell. What do you want?" I question.

"For you to be my boss." He walks over to me.

"You got fired, didn't you?" I look up at him.

"Not just that. Too much drama over there."

"And I'm the easy one. You have a way with words, Kent."

"No, no, I didn't mean-"

"I know. Relax, I'm just fucking with you. Per usual." I raise my eyebrows.

"Look, the truth is, I actually went here first. Then the Talon."

"Okay, why feel the need to lie about something that's not important?"

"Cause why would I ever give you the satisfaction of anything?"

"Good point. Same here." I nod.

"And Eddie makes things interesting here. I mean, watching you about to fight him actually makes looking at you worth it." Clark tells me. "And I can be myself here. It's fun. And I could use the money."

"Tomorrow, 9am. You're late and off with your head." I place the rag over my shoulder and he heads into the kitchen. "I set myself up for this." I whisper before huffing. "What are doing?"

"We never got to celebrate." He heads out with ice cream and a blender.

"Celebrate what?"

"Three years of your sobriety."

"Kent—" I cut myself off as he heads back inside the kitchen. "I swear to God, I'm gonna hit him in the face." I mutter before Clark sets down the toppings and whipped cream. "Not in the mood, Kent." I shake my head before I continue wiping down the counter and he takes the rag. "Can you, like, not?" I raise my eyebrows and go to take the rag back, but he pulls his arm away.

"Is this about Lionel?"

"We're closed."

"I work here now."

"Come again soon. Or not." I nod.

"What happened in the building?" Clark asks

"What happens in the movies and the tv shows." I take my rag back from him.

"You have every right to be mad."

"Mad? Why would I be mad? What about? The fact that, that son of a bitch could see the entire time and I spent over two hours trapped in a building with him, trying to save his sorry ass? Or why would I be mad at the fact he chose to pull the trigger on Pine at the last minute like some fucking noble hero? Or the fact he knew it was me the entire time and didn't give two shits that maybe, just maybe I could've gotten shot because of him. Again." I raise my voice while nodding. "I got nothing to be mad about." I shrug with glassy eyes before I continue wiping down the counter.

"Brianna-"

"I know I put myself in that situation, but I did it for your mom. I didn't know Lionel was in there. I thought he had gotten out because he's fucking Lionel Luthor. But no. He was in there, playing fucking Hellen Keller! Minus the deaf part!" I stop wiping the counter before letting my face fall into my hands. I feel Clark's hand graze my shoulder, but I quickly shun it away. I let out a quiet sob against my hands before lowly sniffling.

"Did he touch you?" Clark breaks the silence.

"What?" I crane my neck to him.

"Pine. Did he do anything to you?"

"No, not like that, no." I shake my head and he slowly nods.

"Did you see a file?"

"What?"

"My mom said she saw a file with my name on it in there. Did you see it?"

"No, I didn't see any files. Maybe she took it with her when she left the building."

"She didn't have it with her."

"Then I don't know what you're talking about, Kent. Besides, it's a file. A lot of lies could be on there. But this file is gone, right?"

"Yeah." Clark nods.

"Then that's all that matters." I nod back and open the container of ice cream.

Fucking Lionel Luthor.
