The sound of Astrid's alarm woke the girl in a sweet melody, the sound of her once favourite song filling the quiet room. The other girls mumbled and groaned, too early on a day where they had no classes. "Sorry" Astrid muttered, voice strained as she turned the alarm off for the third time, too tired to get up each time it woke her in a fright, scaring her.
She knew she had to get up eventually, couldn't put this day on pause and certainly couldn't miss it by sleeping in. Everyone was attending the tournament, even those who would choose to skip Quidditch games. No one wanted to miss out on the thrill and excitement of such dangerous games. Astrid thanked Merlin it was the last day today, starting her morning off with a quick prayer. She wasn't always on her A game with praying on time or at all, but she always thanked the lord through out the day no matter what.
The first thing she did was roll to her side and slide open her bottom drawer, she picked three small vials out of the drawer, placing them on top of the surface. She downed one and started for the bathroom, pleased Hermione was still slowly waking up so she had the shower first. She was fast but efficient, having slept in her dirty lake water hair the night before. Once finished she changed her clothes and with her wand waved her hair as if she had slept in braids.
"I'll see you at breakfast, I need to see Cedric" Astrid told Hermione, downing another vial as she shoved three more in her pocket
"See ya" Hermione scratched her head, tiredly walking to the washroom, one of her pyjama pants legs folded above her knee
Astrid skipped down the stairs fast, tucking her wand away, she didn't know why she felt so anxious, or why it felt like time was passing by faster. She kicked herself for not getting up earlier, wondering how long Harry and Cedric must have been up for, how they felt going to bed last night. She hoped they were as happy as she was when they fell asleep, that they felt relaxed after the night they all had together.
When Astrid exited the common room she stopped in her tracks, almost bumping into a familiar face. Her heart stopped pounding with nerves and she slumped her shoulders. His face and existence itself reminded her everything would be okay, she would be okay.
"I was just coming to see you" she hugged him tightly
"Beat you to it" Cedric held her even tighter, letting out a built up breath
"How are you feeling?" Astrid asked as they broke off the hug and started walking down the corridor
"Anxious but I think dads excitement is rubbing off on me" Cedric admitted "you?"
"That's good" Astrid watched the trees as she passed by "same as you, though more anxious"
"Take your anxiety potions?" Cedric asked, nudging her
"Yeah" Astrid smiled up at him, the least she could do was act like all was truly okay to ease his own nerves "and you'll be brilliant I just know it"
"Thanks" Cedric and Astrid walked into the dining hall, cheers sounding "for always believing in me"
"Always" she scrunched her nose at him "hungry?"
"Yes" Cedric clapped his hands, politely waving away people who were trying to come up to him to ask about the task "starving"
Astrid and Cedric made their way to a less busy area of the Gryffindor table, saving spots for their friends only. One by one they were surrounded by Harry, Hermione, Ron, Fred, George, Lee, Neville and Anthony.
Astrid and Cedric kept to themselves, chatting about various things as they dug into their breakfasts. Finding comfort in one another like usual.
"Make me proud son" Anthony smacked Cedric's back, leaning over to place a kiss on his cheek "my little superstar"
"Stop" Cedric laughed, rubbing his cheek
"I'll be back" Astrid stood up, leaving the rest to meet Dumbledore at the professors table, "sir" she approached him
"Yes Miss Clearwater" Dumbledore narrowed his eyes at Astrid, a soft smile on his face "I promise nothing will happen"
Astrid laughed airily, embarrassed "thank you"
He nodded his head at her and with that she returned to the table, pulling Harry to her side "be careful okay"
"Yeah" Harry nodded his head
"Be safe, take care of yourself and please Harry don't push yourself" she hugged him, the nerves reaching her throat and lumping in it "if Ced is harsh I apologize, he's doing it for Amos so he tends to come off a bit competitive, you know he means no harm"
Harry squeezed Astrid "I know, thank you"
"Love you alright" she smiled, cupping his cheek "just need you all to come back in one piece"
Harry nodded his head "love you too" his voice sounded less awkward as the years went on
...
"Oh God" Cedric shook his head, watching Amos run out to the crowd and cheer on his son as they walked out
"He's just excited" Astrid laughed, looking around at the roaring crowd of people sat on the bleachers, colourful signs everywhere
"Good luck honey" Jasper hugged Cedric, kissing his temple And moving forward to wish the other champions luck
Lucille and Lorenzo came next "I love you little man" he bear hugged Enzo
"Love you back" Enzo brightly smiled, Lucille and him exchanging hugs and wishing Cedric luck before turning to the others as well
"Okay" Astrid looked to Cedric, already greeting the others at breakfast so she could be with Cedric as long as possible "this is it"
Cedric pulled her into a hug "please be careful, and come back in one piece please" she mumbled into him "I need you back here safe okay"
"I know" Cedric rocked back and forth
"You get to see Cho?" Astrid asked, looking up at him
"We met before I came and got you" he smiled, a blush rising on his face "I will be asking her to be my girlfriend once this is over"
"Ooo" Astrid's eyebrows danced, "I see I see"
"Shut up" Cedric was cut off when Dumbledore moved to the middle of the field, about to begin the final task
"Our handshake" Astrid said raising her hand, Cedric reciprocated the movement before getting pulled backwards by his father
"Mr Diggory" Dumbledore waited
"It's okay" Cedric pulled Astrid's head to him with a hand and kissed her temple "maybe I won't need it this time"
Astrid watched Cedric "be careful"
"I love you" Cedric shouted, running over to join the others as the Clearwaters moved to the stands
"I love you!" Astrid yelled back, pulling out another vial from her pocket and downing it as they climbed the steps to find a spot with the Weasleys
"He'll be great" Pansy smiled at Astrid as she sat down near them
Astrid nodded her head, unable to speak or smile
She clutched her wand, whistled a quiet tune and watched as the students ran into the maze, Cedric turning his head back as he disappeared, whistling the same tune louder.
