Baby Number 3

Ivy races into the house and stands next to Maggie as they hear Amelia shouting, "Mom. Mom! Mother! I know I was engaged before. I was there. No. I am sober. Because we love each other. Because we didn't see a reason to wait. Because people get hit by cars. We've be together for a year. Yes, we broke up, and then we...so what if it has been off and on? I don't know, mom..."

"Were they serious?" Maggie asks her.

"Yeah. No one in our family but me will be at the wedding," Ivy nods.

"Because I do. If you don't come, it is just Ivy and I. Mom. Mommy, please, I am getting married," Amelia cries.

Ivy can't take it any more and bursts into the bathroom. She cradles Amelia to her before taking the phone, "Wow. Carolyn. Two daughters within three years that you've abandoned. Must be a new record. I'll make sure to call the others, since we know that the only child you ever cared about is dead. Go to hell."

Amelia cries into Ivys chest, "Why? Why is she like this?! What did I do?"

"Hey, hey. It's not your fault. This is all on her, not you. I'm here. You are marrying Owen for you, not for her. Not for me, not for any of them. The only people that matter today, are you and Owen. So, I'm gonna go make a phone call real quick," Ivy kisses the top of her head.

"Owen and I will survive without them there, right? I mean, you and Jackson are," Amelia sniffles.

Ivy nods, "Yeah, you will. You're tying the knot in the rain. A wet knot, is a tiger one. Nothing can pull it apart. Now, are you okay?"

Amelia takes a breath, "Yeah. I'm okay. I'm good."

○○○○

Ivy leads Owen up the stairs, "Okay. Where is she?"

"Oh, thank god," She hears Meredith sigh.

He knocks on the door, "Amelia, open the door. Amelia? It doesn't matter. If they don't want to be here, then...they shouldn't be. We don't want them. They don't get it, and they don't have to. Ivy does, she'll be there. I do. And I'll be there. And the only one I want there is you."

Amelia opens the door a crack, "You're not supposed to see me before the wedding. It's bad luck."

Owen shakes his head, "I'll close my eyes. I won't see a thing. Come out, Amelia. Come out and marry me."

She steps out and takes his hands before kissing him, "Okay. Go. I will see you at the church."

"I am an excellent sister, maid of honor and best man. I don't know how I got all those titles, but their mine. I will see you at the church, call me if you need me," Ivy turns, "Hunt, hold up, you need to drive me or I will get into an accident because of this bump!"

○○○○

Ivy is in her dress as maid of honor and best man while sorting through and making sure all of Owens tux is there, "Okay, yeah. So the tux is here, shoes there. Um, is there anything else you need?"

"I'll be fine."

"You're good? No second guesses of Amelia and I's crazy family? Oh, did you remember black socks?" Ivy lists.

He chuckles, "No second guesses and uh..."

Ivy laughs, "Ha, I knew it."

Owen shakes his head, "You know, thank God for you. This is why I had you hold on to the rings."

She freezes, remembering that she left them, "Thank God for me. Uh, excuse me."

Rushing out, she sees Warren there, "Hey, am I the first one here?"

"Do you have a car?"

"Why?"

"Do you have a car?!" She shouts.

"Yes, why?"

She ignores him, "Okay, come on."

○○○○

Ivy rushes into Meredith's house, which is thankfully empty, "I left the rings...I don't remember where I left the rings."

Warren suggests, "Well, uh, they say if you think out loud while you're looking for something, you find it faster."

She turns on him, "Who says?"

"Scientists...who lose things."

"Fine. I remember there was one point that I went upstairs," she stops when she feels a small contraction.

"You okay?" He notices.

Ivy nods, "Yup. I went upstairs and Amelia was in the bathroom arguing with our witch of a mother. And-okay."

○○○○

"Okay, so then I hung up the phone, and I went over to the table and-" She groans.

Warren runs in, "What-what? You okay?"

She holds up the ring box, "Found it!"

He sighs, "Alright, look. Let's get out of here."

"Okay, ah. No, no, no," she grunts.

"Okay, you-youre having contractions," he comes back.

Ivy chuckles, "No. Braxton-Hicks all day. I can't give birth today. Cause the last wedding I gave birth at, I almost died, my children almost died, my best friends heart was broken, and the groom ran away with an ex. Nothing else can go wrong with this wedding, therefore, no baby today."

Ben ignores her, "Sit down. Go on. Sit down."

She shakes her head, "We got to get these rings over to Owen, I need to check on Amy and make sure she hasn't flown the co-"

"Shep-Shepherd- Shepherd, have a seat," he guides her into a chair as the pain intensifys.

"Okay, sitting sounds good."

○○○○

Ivy lays back on the couch, "Okay. Okay."

Warren looks at his watch, "Okay. See, that-that one came a lot faster. They're- they're- they're a lot closer together now. Maybe we should take this party on to the hospital."

"Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, Ben. Wait, wait, wait. I don't- I don't want to have this baby in your car," Ivy shakes her head.

"Neither do I. We're going to the hospital," he nods.

She lays back down, "Okay, but figure my contractions are close together plus traffic plus the rain plus any problems caused by the rain... what I'm trying to say is that between your car and this house with head, running water, blankets, I'll stay here. Yeah. Staying here. I'm gonna have this baby right here."

"Ivy, no-"

"Ben, come on. Its having a baby at home. I used to live here. My sisters live here. People use to give birth in caves. And this isn't even my first time giving birth-"

"-You almost died the last-"

"We can do this," Ivy ignores him.

Ben tries again, "We should just get in the car. Okay, okay, okay, but you know what? I'm gonna call an ambulance, though. Get us some help," he says as Ivy groans in pain.

As he puts the phone to his ear, Ivy grits out, "I'm having a baby. Again. On Meredith's rug."

He nods, "Right on Meredith's rug."

○○○○

Ivy leaves a message for Jackson, "Warren has called 911, but I might be having our baby here, so, uh, just, uh, maybe, get here. Please."

She hangs up and Ben comes back in, "Hey, y-you sure you don't want to...lie down?"

"Oh," she groans out.

"Oh. Uh, I wish I had an epidural for you."

"Don't need it. I am a Shepherd. Nothing stops us. Except maybe semi trucks. But not giving birth. My mother did it six times. Six! I can do it once. Pain has no hold on me," Ivy rants.

Ben chuckles, "You weren't kidding. You-you know how to have a baby."

Ivy thinks, "Okay, Ben, um, maybe go wash your hands, cause I need you to give me an exam, because my water just broke. You're probably gonna see my vagina, which might be weird."

He washes his hands, "Yeah, but, uh, you know, I'm a doctor, so, you know, it's all good."

"Right. Yeah, my brain stopped working the second my water broke."

○○○○

As Ivy works through her contraction, she gets into position for Ben to examine her, "Okay, it's done. Just do it."

Ben reassures her, "Okay, you just relax, all right? You know the drill. You're gonna feel my hand..."

His hand stays there a little long, "Okay, Warren, let's wrap it up. My husband and I are still your boss'."

"Sorry. I just- I-I-I can't- I don't know what I'm-" he stumbles.

"Come on. You've done a pelvic before, haven't you?" Ivy questions.

Ben nods, "Yeah, plenty, plenty, but this doesn't feel right."

Ivy scoffs, "Don't tell me it doesn't feel right. It's my freaking cervix. Just check how dilated it is, and get out of my va-"

"I-Ivy, Ivy, it's a foot. I feel a foot."

"No."

"Its breech. It's a footling breech. And-and I feel the cord," Ben lists.

She shakes her head, breathing heavily, "No. No. Is-is there a pulse? Answer me!"

He feels, "I don't think so, no. No."

Ivy shakes, "So my baby's gonna die?"

Ben turns back towards her, "No. No, Ivy, no. No, it just means that it's not getting all the blood that it could be and that-"

"That you have to get the baby out as fast as possible or she will die. So I need a c-section. Now," Ivy remembers.

"Yes."

"Okay, okay. So, the light is better in the kitchen," Ivy looks around.

He questions, "What? Wait, wait, wait. No. No. No. I'm not giving you a c-section. Look, there's an ambulance coming."

Ivy interrupts him, "Ben, we both know it doesn't matter."

Ben shakes his head, "I'm not doing it. I can't. We'll get you to the hosptial."

She cries, "My baby is dying, her blood supply is cut off, and she is going to die."

"There is an ambulance coming!" He runs to the door.

"Ben! Ben! Even if they were here now, they can't help me. You can," she shouts.

"Its coming. It's coming," Ivy groans as he steps outside.

○○○○

Ben gets Ivy to lay on the table before telling her, "Okay, listen. There's no anesthesia. Ice is all we got, so the pains gonna-the pains gonna be bad."

He gets on the phone with Arizona who gives him instructions before she hears another voice, "Ivy? Ivy? Hey, Ivy? Can she hear me?"

"Jackson, Jackson! Jackson, I'm here," she cries.

"Okay, okay, I'm right here. Okay? I'm right here. I'm with you."

Ben shouts, "Aha! Jackpot!"

Ivy looks at him, "What?"

He carries something over to her, "Its an old medical bag. It must've been her mom's. There's some gauze and, uh,- ha, ha! A scalpel."

"And some lidocaine?" Ivy asks.

"Hey, Warren, what do you have to pack her with?" Arizonas voice comes back on.

"Uh...dish towels. Okay. Can you feel that?" He looks at her.

She nods, "Yeah," as he starts to prep, Ivy breathes, "Okay, Ben, I need you to promise me something, okay? If you feel like you're gonna lose me, if I'm bleed out, you..."

"No."

"You make sure that this baby, my daughter, is okay," Ivy continues.

"Oh, no, no, no. Ivy do not- Ben, don't listen to her, okay? You save her. You save both of them. You save my wife and daughter."

Ivy ignores Jackson, "You promise me that you will save this baby, no matter what. Ben, okay?!"

"Warren, you have got this. You have got this," Arizona tells him.

"Ben, please, okay?" Jackson asks.

He listens to everyone before shouting, "Everybody, just quiet! Please," he grabs the phone, "Miranda? I want to do this, all right? I-I have to do this, all right?"

Ivy watches as he pours sanitizer on his hands and the knife, before she grips onto the table and he makes the cut. She screams.

"Okay. Hey, hey. What's happening? Ivy, please. Say something. Ben?"

Ivy passes out before knowing what happened.

○○○○

Waking up, Ivy is met with Jackson holding a baby. Their daughter, "Jackson? Is that...?"

"Yeah. She's perfect," Jackson smiles, kissing her before passing her the baby.

"Shes perfect? Really? The twins-"

"Are with my mom. Everyone is okay. Your okay, the twins are okay, and our daughter is okay," he says, sitting on the chair next to the bed.

Ivy realizes, "Oh, my God. Amelia! Owen! They're wedding. I'm supposed to give-"

Jackson stops her, "Hey, hey. Its okay. Right now, you need to rest. And hold our daughter."

She smiles, "Have we agreed on the name?"

"Yeah, I think we have."

"Hi, I'm your mom. And this is your dad. You, my sweetheart, are Aurora Reed Avery. We're so happy your here."
