It had been two months since things drastically changed for both Tom and Y/N. It had been two months since he last had her in his arms while he kissed her and repeatedly reminded her of how much he loved her. It had been two months since she started living in a small cottage on the outskirts of the relatively small kingdom.

There wasn't a day that passed when Tom didn't think about her and her beautiful and selfless persona. He was still as in love with her as he was the day he met her and no part of him understood why he hadn't stood up for their relationship, why he hadn't fought harder to have her by his side. Now he woke up next to Halia every single morning. She was a breathtakingly beautiful woman, Tom would never deny it, but she wasn't Y/N and she'd never be.

Having her out of the castle did help him clear his head, but now... days away from being crowned King officially, Tom felt trapped. His only comfort were those spaced out updates about Y/N he'd receive from the maids that saw her whenever they went into the market to look for food. Tom knew Harrison visited Y/N often, but his best friend would never say anything about her. Deep down, Haz was still mad at Tom for not trying harder to save the valuable relationship they had.

Tom woke up that morning as he let out shaky breaths, still too deep into the dream he had had because it had felt much too real. Tom was afraid to turn over and see her sleeping by his side instead of the Y/H/C haired woman he truly loved, but he had to get out of the dream eventually.

He rolled out of bed before Halia woke up. Tom rubbed his face with his hands and looked back at her as a sigh escaped past his lips. Her long, blond curls were tied up in a neat braid as she slept soundlessly. Tom shook his head, he couldn't start thinking about Y/N again. That's all he seemed to do ever since she left. He was desperate to find a way out of whatever sick deal he had made with Halia, but Tom knew he could do nothing without putting Y/N in harm's way while she still lived inside the kingdom.

Harrison sneaked into the room silently without bothering to knock. He stayed silent as he watched his friend, who was sitting down at the foot of the bed, head in his hands as sobbed. He could tell how fucked up Tom was on the inside as much as he tried to hide it during the day and Harrison was starting to get worried sick because, as time passed, Y/N kept looking better and better while Tom just got worse and it was all because of a power-obsessed bitch who cared about no one but himself. She still held a lot more power than he ever did, so there was nothing Harrison could do to try and get rid of her.

He cleared his throat to get Tom's attention and stepped out of the room and into the hallway where they could talk in peace. Tom followed his best friend outside once he had put a shirt on and combed his messy hair with his fingers.

"Your mother insists on having breakfast with you Tom. I'd listen to her before she comes and drags you by the ear," He joked and Tom laughed as he shook his head. His mother had insisted on being alone with him without Halia by his side, who had been following him around the castle 24/7 like a lost puppy. Tom knew that as much as his mother tried to hide it, she disliked Halia as much as he did, but he had to keep the act up for his father who was still convinced Halia was the girl he had danced with that night.

"I'll go. Do you happen to know where she is at the moment?" Tom asked as he straightened out the shirt and slacks he had just put on.

Harrison nodded, "She's in her office. I'll make sure someone keeps her out of your way," He said as he pointed at their bedroom. Tom looked at his best friend with thankful eyes and walked away to go with his mom.

Truth was, ever since his engagement, he barely had time to be with his family and he missed them all too much. He missed everything about his old life, when everything was still simple and he got to be with Y/N. He used to complain about only being able to see her for only a few minutes some days, but at that very moment, he'd give anything for just a second alone with her, to at least try and explain why he did what he did. Y/N deserved so much more than just being heartbroken and fired from a job Tom knew she loved with all her heart.
