There was once an anonymous poet who wrote a famous poem, a poem about one-sided love. A tale of a perfect woman and a devout sage, the poet's description is like an excellent mirror, in which everything can be seen and imagined exactly as it really was at that time.

In satyug there was a princess who was born with every bodily perfection one can think of, a timeless beauty.

At the most auspicious hour she was born, the moon had risen and illuminated the whole sky, hence her name was kept Chandrika.

Her luscious hair were dark as midnight and soft as the clouds. Lips were rubies, teeth were diamonds and her heart was gold. The scent of her sandalwood skin pervaded the universe and greedy butterflies always gathered around.

There was even a rumor about her that raindrops would turn into pearls once it touched her beautiful body.

As beautiful as Chandrika was she was also wise, she was fluent in speaking many languages, spending most of her time reading Ved, Purans and Upanishads. As devout devotee of Mahadev, she was excellent in both wisdom and weaponary.

Gods, Gandharv, men and Rakshas alike were fascinated by her in the same way a moth is fascinated by a lamp. Suitors from around the world and beyond came and bowed before her beauty. They all wanted to make her theirs but never obtained favorable answer and went back one by one.

You see Chandrika's heart was stolen by someone else. The man was none other than Rishi Nar, twin brother of Rishi Narayan. She once saw him doing meditation under a tree and was attracted to him. But once she got to know about him from the ministers of her court she fell in love.

But Rishi Nar wasn't bothered by it, as he was busy performing hard penance to defeat the demon Dambhod-bhava. Love and marriage was the last thing he needed so he rejected her proposal.

This tale teaches us an important lesson, never get attached to anyone unless they felt the same towards you because one-sided expectations can mentally destroy you.

Chandrika was heart-broken by this and her sorrows were increased when her father gave her hand in marriage to Demon Kali, the origin of evil itself.

Demon Kali threatened to destroy the kingdom if he is not married to Chandrika, the king had no choice but to given in to his will.

Chandrika fearing she will be married to Demon Kali soon decided to end her life. She only will be Rishi Nar's not anyone else's. But before she could burn herself in the fiery pit she was stopped by Mahadev.

"Stop ! My dear child don't do this !" Mahadev stopped standing between her and the fiery podium.

"O Mahadev ! If I cannot live a life with Rishi Nar then what is the point of this life, I cannot be the wife of that wicked demon Kali. I will not force myself on to Rishi Nar as I know that true love is liberation not enslavement." Chandrika said.

"My sweet child, you have been a true devotee of mine and it pains me to see you giving up your life for someone who doesn't care about you. Ask a boon child and it will be given." Mahadev said.

"Mahadev, make Rishi Nar fall deeply in love with me in the next life. It is fine if I am not his first love, I rather be his last but true one. O gracious lord grant me this boon." Chandrika asked.

"Tathastu!" Mahadev blessed and disappeared sadly. He knew he can't stop her.

Chandrika then gave up her life so no man except Rishi Nar can have her. She had a proud smile on the face as she went inside the fiery podium happy at the thought of Rishi Nar being hers in the next life.

《TIMESKIP TO DWAPARYUG》

The best archer in the entire world, the Gandivdhari Arjun has always been fascinated by Chandrika ever since Shri Krishna told him the tale. He always wondered whether he could find someone like her.

"Madhav I think Rishi Nar made a mistake by rejecting someone like Chandrika." Arjun said. Krishna, the living God laughed knowingly.

"He sure did Parth, he sure did." Krishna chuckled.

Dambhod-bhava: Karn's previous incarnation. Evil demon had a boon of a 1000 impenetrable armors by Surydev, 999 of which were destroyed by Rishi Nar and Rishi Narayan to kill him. When last one was left he asked surydev for help and Suryadev absorbed his beloved devotee inside him. Thus Karna was born with a impenetrable armor.

Demon Kali : Said to be Duryodhan's previous incarnation. According to scriptures he is the lord of Kaliyug and Archnemesis of Kalki avatar. Kali symbolizes everything that is unholy, the destruction of balance, peace and life itself. Has the power greater than the gods but is said to be inferior to Kalki.
