After reading about existential psychotherapy, and being reminded and further educated about the existential "given" (fear) of isolation, I was reminded of the true nature of responsibility, anxiety, and family. It is true that anxiety only exists in the presence of self-awareness and noted stakes, fading in the presence of merged identities with others-- whether they be spouses, lovers, friends, or family. This is because of the perceived and experienced thought of security, shared or surrendered decision-making, and community. The community is a resource, a shield, and sword for the individual; a place where losses in life can be spread thin and accountability deferred (or ignored) for the individual in question.

People should not judge a heart that perceives the family as buffer. It is reason and realism speaking, not necessarily the lack of affection.
