Thirty One: Not Anymore

"Flights are being canceled. We can't fly back to London today."

It's such bad news for me but for her, it's a good one. Yes, I can see that the storm is getting really heavy as we speak.

"Okay."

I said then took an apple from the table at kinagat ito saka naglakad pabalik sa hagdan para umakyat sa kwarto ko.

"Where are you going?"

Tanong nya habang nakaupo parin sa couch ng napaka laking sala. Tinanggal ko sa bibig ko ang apple at saka sumagot.

"In my room. Hihiga."

Sagot ko naman. It's 3 pm already pero I'm still wearing jammies. Sobrang lamig kasi dahil sa bagyo. So I feel so lazy to take a bath.

"No, come here. Sit with me."

I rolled my eyes at her but I decided to do what she says. Pabagsak akong umupo sa couch.

"May itatanong ako sa'yo, Raine."

"Hmm?"

Sagot ko nang hindi tumitingin sa kanya.

"Hmm, kung hindi ka nakulong, where do you think you would be?"

"Right now?"

Sagot ko naman. Sa totoo lang napaisip ako sa itinanong nya. Tumango tango lang sya habang naka salumbaba at nakatitig sa akin ang maganda nyang mukha.

"Hmm"

Napasandal ako sa couch at komportableng isinandal ang ulo ko sa sandalan. Still wondering where could I be?

"Bilis na ang tagal naman."

Napatingin ako sakanya.

"Oh eto na nga eh. Excited kasi eh"

Sambit ko sakanya saka humarap ng maayos.

"I think, kung hindi ako nakulong, I'd be somewhere around the world, either enjoying a cocktail while on a beach or busy running a new branch on my pastry shop. I guess we'll never know."

I shrugged my shoulders. She just nodded her head.

"You can still do that. I could help you open your pastry shop, but since when did you have interest in that kind of thing?"

Interesadong tanong nya.

"Remember those muffins you and Tanya used to eat when you're in the house?"

Naningkit ang mga mata nya, tanda na hinahalungkat nya ang laman ng utak nya.

"Yeah! I do! Uhm those little red muffins with cream cheese inside?"

I nodded.

"I baked those. I used to bake and experiment, but I told people around the house that they shouldn't say a thing about it."

Nakita kong kumunot ang noo nya.

"What? Why? Those muffins are sooo good. I always eat three or four of it. I even asked Tanya where you guys buy those. She just told me your cousin baked it."

She was so excited she even shook my hand na akala mo eh tropa nya ako at may dumaan na crush nya.

"I didn't want any compliments on anything I did, before. I guess, masyado akong sanay na kinagagalitan so I never wanted to feel how it's like to be commended."

I shrugged my shoulders once again. Lumapit sya sa akin at isinandal ang ulo nya sa balikat ko saka inabot ang kamay ko. She intertwined her fingers around mine.
