THE BALLROOM WAS FILLED with so many people when Abby, Precious and I came. My mom and Danny went to get some refreshments. I didn’t want to spend my whole time getting teased by my brother so I asked my mom if I could hang with Abby and Precious instead.

The party was unlike what I expected. The Sullivan’s main lobby was converted into the fanciest ballroom I’ve ever seen!

We were in a cool, high-ceilinged room. There was a lovely chandelier that hung in the center that looks like it was about to fall any minute. The walls were white, with tall windows through which the purplish-crimson light from the sunset fell onto a polished marble floor. The room was filled with antique yet elegant furniture. There was a long table bearing mouth-watering food that made my stomach grumble.

“Jared sure is rich,” Precious mumbled. She was wearing a blue halter dress that reminded me of a kimono. Her long, dark hair was curled and pulled up by chopsticks. She was also wearing the turquoise necklace and bracelet I gave her last Christmas. She looked really pretty.

“You got that right,” Abby said. Her short, yellow cocktail dress looked lovely on her pale skin and accented the red of her hair. She wore red peep-toe heels that match the color of her ruby earrings. She looked pretty, too.

“So, uh, where’s Jared?” I mumbled as my eyes searched the room. He must me be here somewhere. I fidgeted on the seams of my black Armani cocktail dress. I picked it out especially for this event. Even though it kind of burned a hole in my wallet, it was totally worth it. The see-through illusion of the dress made it look sleeveless when it actually isn’t. Deep reddish heels and matching jewelry completed the Dakota Fanning look.

“Ooh. She’s looking for Jared,” Precious cooed.

“Am not!” I snapped.

“Okay, okay dragon girl. Calm down,” Precious said sarcastically.

Abby giggled. Soon enough, both of them were laughing so hard they were almost knocked down by the partiers.

Well, you know the saying ‘when you can’t beat ‘em, join ‘em!’ I suddenly found myself laughing, too. I never get tired of my best friends—even if they are crazy.

“Hey guys. Mind if I steal Precious for a little while?” said a husky voice from behind us.

It was Seth.

He looked really…handsome! He was wearing a blue Polo shirt and dark jeans. His usually spiky hair was swept to the side making him more attractive. Leave it to Precious to find the perfect guy!

“Seth!” Precious looked at him for a split second and looked like she was about to faint right there in front of her boyfriend. That’s probably how I looked when I first saw Jared.

“Hey. You look beautiful,” Seth smiled.

“Look who’s talking!”

Seth and Precious chuckled.

“So,” Seth said.

“Alright, alright. We’ll leave you two love bugs alone,” Abby said raising her hands.

“Good luck with Jared,” Precious whispered and gave me another one of her ‘you go girl!’ wink before we left.

The party seemed to be just getting started because I saw many other people arriving. Some were people whom I’ve never seen before, some where old people, probably in their fifty’s or something, Some where familiar faces I recognized in our school and some were our neighbors whom Jared and I knew since we were little kids.

There were so many people that I felt like being suffocated!

Just then, Brandon burst through the giant, wooden doors. He looked handsome as well, I have to admit. A little more handsome than Seth, but maybe it’s because he’s a little older.
