TW, use of slurs to degrade someone.

Telling the press wasn't painless to say in the least. It gave us a huge bonus for all the fans it'd bring, but we lost a lot here. We made the mistake of taking calls from questioning fans and someone called me a fag. Katsuki threatened to find them and make them listen to a 5 hour lecture on it, good times. The reporter was a bit homophobic but ah, it happens. We're on patrol now, at the edges of the city to avoid harassment again. There are laws to protect us from harassing reporters, not citizens. Its about time for us to head back and retire for the day anyway. We laugh and talk as we walk then come up on a girl, she can't be but 10, sprinting towards us. Her unruly and long black hair catches behind her and she clings to Kat's leg. "Help me, please. I can't stay with him anymore!" She sobs and he picks her up, cradling her close to him. "I've seen you on TV, I know you're good." She whimpers, as if trying to justify coming to us. My heart breaks for her but both of us are on the lookout for danger.

She's looking too, which just makes us both more worried. She clings to him tightly and a spindly looking man emerges from the corner. "Hook your feet in Shoto's belt and hold onto the straps around his shoulders. This won't be pretty, but we'll keep you safe." Katsuki says protectively and shifts her to my back. He discretely presses the button inside his gauntlet to call police, we're taking this bastard in. She clings to me and the man jerks forward and reaches for us. Hooked claws shoot towards us but we both dodge easily. The girl has surpringly good grip and holds tight as I freeze one of the class and Katsuki explodes it, our signature team move. The man screams out and she cries in terror. What did he do to her?

"I want more monsters, Akumu!" He growls and she wraps her arms in the straps on my shoulders, obviously terrified. "No! No more, Bari!" She yells and I'd be proud of her if it didn't make my ear drums feel like they were about to implode. Me and Katsuki are constantly dodging and 'Bari' makes the mistake of focusing on me and Katsuki takes the opening, leaping onto his back and making an explosion over his head, effectively rendering him deaf and he crumples to the ground as Katsuki pins him there.

The man struggles but can't manage to get his hooks up after I've frozen his hands. The girl won't get down and still clings to me but she's stopped crying. Katsuki slowly backs away once Bari stops struggles and I freeze ice over him to keep him in place. Katsuki reaches for her gently and she reaches for him, eager to be back in his arms. We keep her far away from him but supervise before police arrive. She screams in terror at the sight of an officer walking towards us and suddenly a black figure emerges from her chest. It has a creepy smile made of light and floats towards the police man. I yell and make an ice barrier between the two, it floats right through it. I try to light it on fire and the girl cries out. She doesn't thrash like she's in pain but her eyes are pure white now. I'm confused and Katsuki shakes her, trying to get her to respond to him. "Girl! Its okay, don't attack the officer. He's here to help!" He says urgently and she stops screaming as the creature is burned away.

Its almost like she snaps out of it and the whole crew of officers stare at her. She whimpers and tucks her head into Kat's neck, they're scaring her. I walk towards them as I know what's about to happen but Kat doesn't wait for me to calm down. "THE FUCK YOU LOOKING AT!? SHE'S BEEN THROUGH HELL AND YOU HAVE THE AUDACITY TO SCARE HER!?" He yells and the girl, surprisingly enough, is more comforted by his yelling. The officers look away and I melt the ice for them to detain the villain. She grabs his uniform and says, "Please don't let them take me. Please. They're the ones that gave me to Tsuribari." I frown and Kat shifts her to sit on his hip so he can hold her with one hand and put his other on her back. "That certain cop?" I ask and she shakes her head. "No, but they all wear the same things. The men in blue and the women in suits." She says quietly and it all clicks in my head. Cops and CPS workers. She's a victim of the system.

"Kat..." I say slowly and he nods, thinking the same thing. A different cop tries to slowly approach us and I hold up a hand. "Your uniform scares her. We'll be taking the child." I say, letting authority take over my voice and leave a threatening undertone. He nods and they all stay away from us. "Can I go with you?" She asks quietly and Kat looks at me. "We'll see." I say slowly and she nods. "Whats your name, princess?" He asks gently and she smiles at the nickname. "I'm Naku." She says and I tilt my head. "Why did Tsuribari call you Akumu?" I ask, slow and gentle. "Nightmare." Kat says, translating. Oh shit. "You're not a nightmare." He says assuredly and she shakes her head. "I-Its my quirk."
