How Do I Say Goodbye?

How do I say goodbye
To a person who's left my life?

Does this have to be this hard?
Why can't it easy like the start?

How do I not cry?
Or feel like a piece of me has died?

Say the word one last time for closure
Now that I know it is over.

How do I say goodbye
To one who's walked into the light?

I still had so much to say,
But their spirit has drifted away.

I still wanted to say the last I love you,
Still wanted to hold you.

But I can't because that time is through...
But I'll always be thinking of you.

How do I say goodbye
When I'm starting a new life?

I'm leaving my parents behind
To begin a new life of mine.

I'll hang a picture of them on my wall,
So I can remember your faces and memories, most of all.

How do I say goodbye
To someone who's going to fly?

I might not see you in years,
The thought has left me in tears. 

How to I let go of their hand,
Knowing I may never see them again?

I watched you turn around, 
Staring like the world was upside down.

I can almost read your mind:

How do I say goodbye?
This is the hardest part in life.

I'm leaving you behind,
But maybe I'll be able to return in a little time,

With tears in your eyes,
Your heart breaks inside,

But no matter how long you're gone,
To those memories I'll hold on.

To every person saying goodbye,
Remember this from time to time:

This wasn't the last time,
It's not a permanent goodbye,

Because you'll see them again
When we walk into heaven,

But we'll always know
That in our hearts we never let go...

The hardest part in life
Is the tearful goodbyes.
