My Sunflower

You're the bright sunflower amongst a black and white bouquet,
The touch of sunshine.

When other roses begin to fray,
You show me a glimpse of life.

You're the joy that led me to a flower field,
A runaway from the things that seem too surreal.

The soft sunlight that seems calming,
A sweet belonging.

Dance freely in a meadow of joy,
A place where happiness can't be easily destroyed.

The petals that don't fly into the wind when I pluck them,
But lay at my bare feet- you become my stem.

Planted seeds of love and peace,
I didn't believe another person was what I'd need.

Butterflies fly once again,
A livelihood from when I was ten.

A new kind of life,
One that feels the most right.

Sunflower in my hands,
And surrounding me,

A sweet breath of fresh air can
Be what I would mostly need.
