Priority

Little context. So Moses is telling the Israelites not to create any form of idol worship. During this time idol worship was heavy, people would make items of people, animals, sun, and moon but today our idols are ourselves, celebratiee, possessions, emotions like love, other people, and crafts.

If there's something I know is God despises idol worship. His completely jealous over us.

Deuteronomy 4:23-24
NKJV
23 Take heed to yourselves, lest you forget the covenant of the Lord your God which He made with you, and make for yourselves a carved image in the form of anything which the Lord your God has forbidden you. 24 For the Lord your God is a consuming fire, a jealous God.

What does this jealousy look like though? I love this analogy.

God would often call Israel like his bride. Idol worship is like cheating to God, the same anger you'll get when you're with someone and they keep cheating going to all kinds of things, and only coming back to you when they need something is only a small glimpse of the pain God feels when we have idols.

It's thinking about, replacing it putting first anything that isn't God. This can be a ministry too, guys this can be working for God to. Anything that's put #1 before God is an idol. What do you waste your time on? Do you watch movies for 5 hours a day but when it comes to praying you would sigh and groan.

I remember the moments where I would do all kinds of things during my day but when I remembered it's time for me to read my bible I would get anxious and skim through the passage because I did it last minute with little time.

We make time with what's important to us. Did you listen to music today? You made time for it. Did you do your homework? You made time for it. Did you talk to your friends, face to face, or on social media? You made time for it. Did you first thing in the morning wake up and get your phone. You made time for it

God doesn't want our religon of reading the Bible to check it off our list but he wants a relationship. Relationships take work, commitment and dedication. A relationship takes you getting to know the other person and finding joy in spending time with them.

When it comes to not making God our priority, we don't have much of an excuse. We make time for a lot of things as a youth but a lot of them are temporary and don't fulfil us the way our heavenly father does.

The things that we constantly put above God are things that won't come with us in eternity.

Where is your heart today? What idols are you holding on to and how can you spend more time with your creator then creation?
