We reached the hospital and I called the emergency staff to carry my mom outside the car. I was crying so hard because I couldn't contain my emotions at the moment. My mom is not yet waking up, sinong hindi mag-aalala 'ron? I was just sitting in the waiting area because the nurses told me to wait as they have to perform tests to my Mom.
My hands are on my head when I bowed down and I felt a warm hug behind me. I reached for her and grabbed her shoulder to cry on. She was always there when I needed her.
"Shhh, Tita will be fine, okay?" she's caressing my back while I'm still crying.
"I-I'm so worried, Gab...She never felt that way before..." I looked up to her and she wiped my tears away. She hugged me again and I just cried and cried at her.
"Sakanya ka nagmana ng katapangan, 'di ba? She'll wake up soon, tahan ka na." She stroked my back and put my head on her chest so I can rest it there. "Nasaan si Jay? Naitext mo na ba?" she asked me, letting me face her.
"No, he hasn't responded to any of my calls nor texts..." I stopped crying and looked at my phone to check if he already replied back.
"Hayaan mo muna 'yun. I'll stay here for a while habang wala pa siya para may kasama ka, okay? Wag ka masyado mag-alala. Kayang kaya ni Tita 'yan." I nodded and we just waited for the doctor to come.
"Ms. Alvarez?" I immediately stood up to see the doctor and ask him what happened to my Mom. "Are you the relative of Ms. Alvarez?" he asked me, looking at his clipboard.
"I am her daughter, how is she Doc?" I told him, looking worried still.
I'm sorry to say this but she's not in a good state right now...We are bringing her to the ICU para mas mabantayan namin siya. Her heart isn't responding so we had to put some ventilators and life support. Uh, I just want to know when did she start taking NSAIDs? " the doctor remained calm, trying to figure out a lot of things.
"Uh-come again, Doc? NSAIDs what?" I asked him cluelessly. I've never heard of those medications before.
"She shouldn't be taking those pills in her condition right now, it will just worsen her heart problem..." he said, trying to remain calm as possible.
"I haven't heard of those pills before, Doc. Can you tell me more about it?" I asked while trying to hold back my tears because I don't know what's happening to my Mom.
"NSAIDs like ibuprofen, diclofenac, and higher doses of rofecoxib can make your body hold onto fluid and can affect how well your kidneys work. It can also raise your blood pressure. It can increase the risk of a heart attack or stroke. You didn't know about those pills?" the doctor asked, with a little hint of worry.
"She said her doctor specifically gave that to her to lessen the pain she's feeling every time she's having a hard time breathing." my tears started to fall after I heard the doctor's statement. Gab was just holding me tight in case I might break down.
"Would you mind if I ask kung sino ang physician niya?" the doctor looked at me, raising his eyebrow.
"If I'm not mistaken, si Dra. Ocampo po 'yung cardiologist niya." I calmly said.
"I will just check the medications logbook if she really gave that to your mom, okay? Wait here for a minute, I'll be right back." the doctor excused himself and left.
I still keep on calling and texting Jay but I think his phone died. Laging cannot be reached yung connection niya. I tried to ask Gab if she can call him pero he's not responding as well. We waited patiently for the doctor to come. I was trying to calm myself, why would Dra. Ocampo give her those medications? Kung may galit sila sa 'kin ng anak niya, huwag niya naman idamay nanay ko.
The doctor came back and he was holding a sheet of paper. "Hi, I looked through the logbook and it seems like your mother signed a waiver before getting those medications. May consent din from her guardian, so is this you or what?" nagtatakang tanong ng Doctor sa 'kin. I can't rememebr signing a waiver para sa medications ni Mommy.
"Here you can check the waiver consent, your name is also at the end so I'm wondering bakit hindi mo alam...Just approach me if you still have any questions. I'll be roaming around, maiwan ko muna kayo." I reached for the paper that he handed me.
"Pucha bakit pirma ni Jay 'yung nasa guardian?" Gab shockingly asked. I don't know what to feel right now, I wanted to cry so hard.
